We Walked... by Tigress Pern

We walked into what seemed to be the town square. There were shops to the left and right of us. I turned to Zechs and asked him if this was the right place. He shrugged his shoulders and told me he wasn't sure. Great, now what? I asked him. He said we should continue wandering about. So I followed him through the crowd of shoppers.

We walked down the small paved road that led through the center of town. To the right and left of us were buildings with people milling about. Zechs didn't seem to care much about them as he pressed onward in search of his goal. I paused at the entrance to one building, in hopes that I could entice him to come take a peek. As we'd been wandering through town, I'd overheard people speaking of an exhibit. Now I found myself in front of the building with said exhibit in it and dammit, I wanted to take a look!

We walked across the tiled floor or more appropriately, stalked. There wasn't a chance in hell I was letting Zechs ditch me. Holding onto his arm, we meandered about the exhibit. I noticed a group of school children gathered about a woman, who must have been their teacher. The children were all about eight or nine. Suddenly I thought I recognized someone. It was a Gundam pilot I was sure of it. He was staring at something, transfixed. Zechs said something I missed, which alerted the pilot to our presence. He bolted. I dragged Zechs after him, but we lost him when we entered the next room. The whole place was filled with kindergartners. How could we have lost a fifteen-year-old pilot in a room filled with pint sized post preschoolers?

We walked away from the building and picked up the road we'd been following before. Zechs was more determined than before to reach his goal. He said something about a restaurant, which could have been any place. I sighed loudly and let him have his way. We were passing a field now. In it were a type of horse, at least I think that's what they were related too, they ran over a ridge and were gone before I could get a good look. Of course Zechs was oblivious to this. Why in the world was I putting up with him at the moment was beyond me. Really, why was I putting myself through this? I should have demanded that I have knowledge of our mission in this place. He kept walking.

We walked down the small paved road some more. I was beginning to get the impression that Zechs was becoming about as frustrated as I was. He couldn't find what he was looking for. I noticed a section of fence with a tall boy, about fifteen-years-old standing staring out into space. Something caught his attention, he turned and faced us. I recognized him as yet another Gundam pilot. What? Was there a sale of them today or something? Suddenly he leapt over the fence, jumped a rather large ravine with water flowing rapidly through it, and landed in the grassy field on the other side. He ran as fast as he could and hid. Zechs didn't notice this because the baka was reading a sign.

We walked down the small paved road some more. We'd come to a huge open field. There were a couple people with a large group of children and adults sitting about them. On their fists were hawks. They must be from the local raptor rehabilitation group, I thought. They must have been there lecturing the kids on the dos and don'ts of finding an injured raptor. Zechs was consulting a map he'd picked up. I gave up and sat down to listen to the lecture. Might as well, we were lost. At least I was going to get something interesting out of this trip.

"ONNI-SAN. NOIN." Relena called excitedly waving her hands. Zechs looked up from the map of the zoo.

"Relena. At last. Where have you been?" he asked. "We've been all over looking for you."

"I'm sorry we didn't wait for you at the entrance, but Quatre wanted to look at the baby goats in the petting farm and so did I. It wasn't that far from the entrance, so I thought we'd spot you when you came in. Then we had a few problems."

"Problems?" Noin asked eyeing Heero and Trowa. They shuffled uncomfortably. Relena glared at them.

"Yes, problems. I won't go into them. Anyway, let's go see what we came here for. The new Australian exhibit with all the kangaroos and wombats." Relena said excitedly. Turning around to the Gundam pilots. "Is everyone ready?"

"HAI." Replied Duo and Quatre.

"Um.." Noin began. "Where's Wufei?" Relena, Duo, and Quatre groaned.
