Patience by Phoenix

Part Two

As Quatre gathered his forces, Duo found himself doing something he did more and more lately, soaking in a bathtub. Steam rose off the water as the longhaired man laid back, eyes closed in obvious contemplation. The soothing heat calmed the inner turmoil eating him alive and allowed his thoughts to focus.

The past two days had been a nightmare. First the octopus from L2 was found horribly murdered. Clearly someone had screwed up; it also meant the assassin was at the conference. Then Relena publicly accused him of either being the killer or helping with the murder. The Preventers were forced to confine him to quarters, even going so far as to place a Collar on him. The electronic device encircling his neck would deliver a shock, knocking him unconscious, if he tampered with it or tried to leave the room. Afterward, all the alarms in the complex went off. Duo was trapped and Heero and Treize were furious. Which led to another problem.

From the very beginning, the American had felt a deep attraction to the Japanese pilot. After meeting Treize, the man’s self-confidence and commanding manner drew him as well. Yet, Duo had never done anything about those feelings. Indeed, the young man did his best to hide those emotions from everyone. Neither man showed the least bit of interest in him anyway. So it came as a complete surprise when the pair turned up at his apartment intent on fucking him into unconsciousness. Not that he minded.

Still, the fact that both men, very dedicated, determined men who lived for their job, came to him before even reporting they were safe bothered Duo. During their time as a threesome, the former Deathsycthe pilot tried to avoid asking about what happened. Sally Po gave the agents a complete physical. The amount and kind of torture each had undergone clear by the marks left behind. Although they denied being raped more than once. Heero and Treize claimed it only occurred one time and after that all sexual encounters had been between themselves while on the run. Duo never wanted them to have to relive such a terrible experience, but maybe he should have asked them about it more. It might have answered some questions.

Nothing in Sally’s report explained the men’s overly protective behavior around Duo. Or their near obsessiveness with his being safe. The American had noticed. Of late, however, the actions were clearer, more public. Like when they attacked the Ambassador from L2. Despite the heat of the water, Duo shivered. If he hadn’t told them to stop, he was certain they would have beaten his attacker to death. The amount of fury and raw hate in the pairs’ eyes frightened him.

Sighing, Duo sank lower in the water. Again and again, he tried to make sense of his life. Why did Treize and Heero love him when neither had ever shown any interest before the disastrous mission? Sure they said the events made them realize how little time humans had and thus acted on what they felt; claiming the braided wonder with a shocking amount of passion. But why did each seemed so desperate? Why did his lovers argue against solo missions, his traveling alone, and just about anything that took him from under their watchful gaze? The facts just didn’t fit.

Looking a gift horse in the mouth was never a good idea, yet he couldn’t let this go. Something was wrong. There was something he was missing. But what? Dunking he head, Duo tired to fit the pieces of the puzzle again.

A hand suddenly gripped his head, pulling him over the edge of the tub. A hungry mouth devoured his lips as he tried to blink water from his eyes. Instinctively, the American’s hands sought to grasp the person holding him.

“It’s just us, koi,” Heero’s voice cut through the worry starting to grow.

Treize released his mouth at the same time Duo finally managed to clear his vision.

“We have a little break from Relena and her sycophants.” Treize drawled, running a hand over Duo’s braid, undoing it.

“Thought you might be able to distract us,” Heero said.

“Heero, Treize, I have some things, mph!” Duo’s statement was cut off as the two men threw themselves on their lover, hands exploring familiar territory, leaving the former pilot unable to form coherent thought, much less ask important questions.

As pleasure undid the dark thoughts of the longhaired man, another felt himself overwhelmed by them. Quatre watched as Walker, Alex, and Mueller and the Maguanacs carefully checked their weapons. Soon, they would storm the room three of his friends stayed in, probably kill two of them to save the third and by doing that, effectively kill him as well.

“Sir,” Walker called.

“Yes,” Quatre responded, thankful for the opportunity to avoid thinking.

“We have something you need to approve.”

Approaching the fighters, the blond noticed an air of dread; these men respected Heero and Treize, but they also rightly feared them. Separately, the men were formidably. Together, they were unstoppable. Only a miracle could keep death from this job.

“I have found some guns I think would be useful,” Rashid said. He handed the young Arab what looked like a normal handgun. On closer inspection, the metal was grayer than normal and it felt lighter.

“What is special about this?”

“The gun is merely lighter and made from stronger metal.” Alex lectured. “The bullets, however, are something else. Instead of lead, the tips are formed from a type of drug.”

Hope reawoke in Quatre. “What kind of drug?”

“A sedative. If five of use can hit Treize and Heero with at least one bullet, they’ll be sleeping like babies in seconds.” Mueller crowed.

“It will be dangerous,” Quatre reminded them. “The two men we are going up against are highly trained and will not hesitate to kill us.”

“We know that,” Walker looked him in the eye, “but we also respect them and want to take the chance we can save them. If Heero and Treize die, Duo will follow. Over the years, we all have come to see him as a little brother. Even Alex and Mueller.” The pair in question didn’t comment, but the pain on their faces spoke volumes. How did the crazy American manage to captivate so many people?

“Very well,” The young leader smiled. “But if anything goes wrong, do not hesitate to kill. Understood?”

“Yes Quatre-Sama!” A choir of voices yelled. With hope alive again, the agents set out to take down the most deadly men in the galaxy.

So what does everyone think? Keep in mind I have been working on this stuff off and on and am really depressed right now. Be kind.
