NOTES: What is being posted here was written by myself and Laekin together, just as everything else in the Companions of Fate series. The plot is hers, with a few small contributions by moi; she writes for Quatre, Trowa, Duo and T'ien. My contributions are confined to Wufei and Heero and some brainstorming. The writing sessions for this were between October 19 and December 6, 2000.
T'ien heaved a soft sigh and snuggled down, hiding his face in Heero's neck. Duo kept one pace back and to the side, watching T'ien's face but seeing that the boy did not cast any lingering glances behind them, he gave Heero's hand a firm squeeze then released it as he glided forward to take point. He didn't expect any problems but just in case, he didn't want Heero to have to try to juggle a door, or a gun with one hand and T'ien with the other.
"Shall we catch up with Trowa, Quatre and Wufei?"
Heero nodded. "Try Trowa's communicator."
Duo, reached for his belt and flicked on his communicator. He signaled it a couple of times, then frowned. "No answer."
Heero scowled. "Can you get a locate signal?"
"Should be able to, hold a second." Duo's face became a mask of concentration as he quickly worked the communicator till finally it gave a responsive beep. "Got it... he is about... five clicks to the south."
T'ien, watching Duo's face from where he rested on Heero's shoulder, sat up with a little frown. ~He's heading towards the dormitory.~
Heero glanced at T'ien. He quirked an eyebrow in a silent question.
T'ien leaned back a little further so he could sign with both hands to both boys. ~The dormitory is where the successful group is kept. It is a room full of three stack beds and it locks from the outside to keep them in place. They are already highly trained, and highly responsive, especially if they perceive a 'threat'.~
Heero frowned slightly as he considered that. Trowa was going after Quatre and Wufei. It made sense. He looked at Duo and set out in the direction that would lead to that destination.
Duo whistled silently under his breath and quickly fell into step with Heero. From his vantage point on Heero's shoulder, T'ien pointed out quick access routes which brought them to the top of the hallway about the same time Trowa arrived. At that point, T'ien gave a little wriggle, silent request for ~down please~.
Heero set T'ien on his feet, mentally setting a close watch on the child. He'd been tiring before they ever went to the infirmary.
Trowa had taken a few steps down the hallway, silent and cautious. He could see Quatre standing in the doorway and just beyond him, Wufei. Trowa studied the set of his blond lover's shoulders and back. The little blond was tense, ready for fight or flight. Trowa slowed, moving even more carefully. He wanted Quatre to know he was there... they all were there... but he didn't want to startle the little blond.
Taking a deep breath, Trowa stopped moving and for a moment, concentrated on the love he felt for Quatre, broadcasting those thoughts and emotions as hard as he could. Silently sending a little prayer that...
Bingo.
Quatre's head turned, very slightly, peeking out the door behind him. Turquoise eyes, wide and worried, caught sight of Trowa, Heero, Duo and T'ien. Quatre turned back and spoke softly.
"Wufei..."
Wufei inclined his head slightly in Quatre's direction in acknowledgement but did not turn away from the group, watching them closely. "Have mission parameters been met?" he asked Quatre quietly.
"All are accounted for." Quatre answered, making one more quick head count to confirm this.
"PR119?" Wufei asked just as quietly. It was a Preventer code for a situation that had reached the point where it was time to call Preventer headquarters to come in openly to wrap up the situation.
Trowa had approached close enough that he could hear Wufei's voice. He flicked his eyes back to Duo and Heero, getting a confirming nod from Duo before transferring that nod to Quatre who answered in a soft, deferential tone of voice.
"Confirmed."
Up at the top of the hall, T'ien hung back a little. He didn't have any great love for the clones and like most of the misfits, felt a little bit of anger towards the ones in the dormitory. Not to mention he'd seen some of their training. He just... didn't like them. The back of Heero's leg became a very comfortable spot to be.
Wufei nodded and flickered a look at Quatre, telling him to make the call to Noin, or have one of the others do it. Seeing no other alternative, Wufei decided he would just stay here until the Preventers got to the satellite.
Quatre had no desire to be far from Wufei, not that he felt he could do much if the clones turned violent but he would not leave his dragon alone. Turning his head slightly he shared an expressive look with Trowa, who nodded after a moment and very silently retreated back to where Heero, Duo and T'ien stood.
"It's time to call in Noin and the Preventers. Duo, would you mind? I want to stay close." Though his voice was calm, melodic and steady there was a flash of concern and worry in Trowa's dark green eyes.
Duo shared a quick look with Heero, then he brushed his hand across T'ien's head, ruffling the little boy's hair gently before moving off down the hall, putting some distance between himself and the room before he reopened communications.
