To celebrate the million^th visitor at Gundam Wing Addiction, the GWA Bulletin Board has just moved and left behind ezboard and its problems, pop-up ads from hell etc. Please note the new address... And if this is your first visit, read the details and rules below. I insist! :) If you are a returning visitor, please enter the GW Addiction Bulletin Board straightaway. The old ezboard has been moved and can be visited here!
WHY? ezboard's problems finally prompted the move to a new location, namely GW Addiction's own server (courtesy of Silver's generous gift of space) and a nifty PHP script downloaded free from the amazing phpBB people. Don't you love open source software? The choice of PHP and MySQL was obvious since these free, state-of the art tools are what is being used to transform the archive behind the scenes (you may have noted that some authors' sections have a slightly different look and feel? If not, check out Siberian Tiger or Hinokumo's sections then send comments and criticisms: these changes will not happen overnight, so all suggestions are welcome...
HOW? Just register by choosing a username, an email address and password and you will be able to start posting immediately. You can then add new topics or reply to existing threads. Please take a few moments to explore all the functionalities offered by this new board: they are very comparable to the previous system...
WHAT? There are currently 8 forums open, GW Addiction Fanfics (from GW Addiction authors only) Showcase (for every one else to post fanfics. Please refer to the FAQs section for tips on warnings, ratings etc...) Contest: the 2003 GW Addiction Angst fanfiction contest is now closed and the deadline for voting is October 1^st, 2003 on the GWA_contest mailing list: you have to subscribe to be able to vote for the popular awards! Administration (to report broken links, technical problems or volunteer to help... Hey, it's been known to happen! You don't suppose I do all this by myself, do you?) Beta readers (to find beta readers and/or offer your services: matching can be done privately if you prefer, since you can send private emails from the board too! If volunteering, I suggest including in your entry some details as to your comfort level with written English and your availability/responsiveness (is that a word?) Fanart where GW fanart and illustrations can be posted for general enjoyment (G to R, no NC-17 please) General discussion (for anything else! Questions, requests, discussions, fic searches and advertising GW stuff/conventions are all fine, but no volunteering real names, ages or political opinions, please) Introductions where first posts by new and not-so-new members should go! and suggestions for more forums will be welcome. Of course it means that you should post to the appropriate forum!
Note that one of the benefits of a bulletin board vs. a mailing list (from the point of view of the authors), is that if after hitting the Enter key and sending your fic you notice a few typos, you can go back and edit your own entry.
One last word: the security features of this board are very nifty, and the moderators can take any necessary measures to avoid problems, from deleting offending posts to banning specific users; ie, trolls looking for porn or a platform to flame can leave immediately...
