He woke up in cold sweat, his eyes staring unseeing in the darkness before he realised he was no longer in a dream. Reality had arrived. A whimper arose from him as the door to his caged room opened, spreading briefly a splash of yellow light across the room before the slamming of the door once again cast the room in shadows. He shivered, and cowered against the corner, fearful of what was to come. The boy covered his head with his arms protectively. He could hear his footsteps coming closer and closer. A low moan was torn from him.

‘No... not again.’

The footsteps stopped. He felt a hand on his shoulder and he flinched.

‘Trowa.’

Green eyes widened in shock at the sound of the voice. It couldn’t be... No one knew... He had been kept locked away for over a month. None of the others had come from him he knew, as they did not know where he was. Yet... Gentle hands turned him around, and he looked up in disbelief at the shadowed face of Heero.

‘It’s all over now. You don’t have to be afraid anymore.’

A feather like kiss brushed against his bruised lips. Trowa looked wide eyed at the grim Heero. He noticed the dark smears across Heero’s face, as if a hand had clawed at him. Trowa knew immediately that the dark smears were blood.

‘Quatre?’

‘He’s dead. I killed him.’ Trowa felt himself being pulled into a tight embrace. A sob broke from him as he realised he was saved.

‘Why? Why did he do those things?’ he whispered harshly, the words echoing his deep disbelief at the circumstances. ‘He was like an animal.’

There was a brief silence.

‘He snapped. Quatre wasn’t Quatre anymore.’

Strangely enough, grief welled up in Trowa at the simple statement. ‘I miss him. The real Quatre.’

‘He died a long time ago Trowa.’

‘I know, I couldn’t cry for him then so...’

The two stayed locked in an embrace as time passed.

‘Let’s go now okay? Duo is waiting too.’

The door opened again, and a long haired youth stood in the doorway.

‘Let’s return back home, Trowa.’

The end.
