Okay, hi I'm new to this list so it's intro time. I'm Sheira (duh) I love Gundam W (another duh) and read too many fanfics for my own good, I also occasionally try to pass off my less than auspicious work as writing. I suffer from a fatal case of yaoism and live off of 1/2, 3/4 fics.... so if you don't like shounen ai or yaoi, don't read my fics cuz they are jammed pack with it ^^; And the scary thing is, I've read most of the work by most of the authors I've seen post so far and I gotta say I love alllll your work and I can't wait for installments from all these new series I've started to read.
And for your own torture...err...reading pleasure, I'm sending a (thankfully) short fic about Duo's smile. One problem, I don’t know many of the facts about Duo’s time spent at Maxwell Church. Sure, I know all the basic details, but none of the specifics. So sue me! I can’t find the Episode Zero manga or Endless Waltz novels. And even if I could I wouldn’t be able to read it cuz I can’t read Japanese. :::pouts cutely:::: It’s a songfic. ^_^;;;
Sorry I heard this song and is SCREAMED Duo. It could be his bloody theme song, so I /had/ to write a ficcie about it. ‘Sides those damned Floor Gnomes wouldn’t leave me alone Nat ^_^-V Sorry….:::snickers::: Had to add that..::hides from irate friend:::
Well onto the disclaimers, it has a mild shounen ai warning, but nothing really. Still if you're under 18 or you don't like male/male relationships don't read, yadda yadda. I don’t own the G-Boys, I’m just borrowing them for my own sadistic….errr….I meant creative pleasures. Yeah, ‘creative pleasures’…heheh :::nervous laugh::: Ah just go read the bloody fic! ::points:::
“Smile” belongs to Charles Chaplin.
~~ Smile, tho' your heart is aching, smile, even tho' it's breaking. ~~
Duo stared at the wrecked ruins of Maxwell Church. Even after nearly a decade, the gutted church remained empty, a testament to the atrocities commited against innocents. The long-haired ex-pilot shook his head wearily and smiled ruefully as the memories of his life at Maxwell Church surrounded him and wrapped him up in its warm and balmy world. A world without war and a world where such great people as Father Maxwell and Sister Helen hadn’t fallen under the gunfire of merciless soldiers.
~~ When there are clouds in the sky, you'll get by, ~~
Duo smiled as he looked around and thought about the day he’d come to Maxwell Church, he’d been nothing but attitude and hot air. A grimy little street rat without a friend in the world. Yet somehow, Father Maxwell had seen past his tough and grimy exterior and seen the little boy he was. Duo’s blue-violet eyes darkened with sorrow.
“Father Maxwell…” Duo’s anguished whisper escaped his lips and he tightened his fists; feeling his nails bite into his palms. A droplet of moisture struck his shoulder and Duo stared up increduously as the tiny drops of rain fell from the pale wispy clouds. “Rain.” Duo murmured unbelievingly and abruptly his grim lips broke into a wild grin. He laughed as the life giving moisture fell softly to the earth. It struck him as odd that such a small thing could means so much to him. Dispite it’s gloomy conotations, rain meant life, brought life to all things; and that amazed Duo.
~~If you smile through your fear and sorrow,
smile and maybe tomorrow, you'll see the sun come shining thru’ for you. ~~
Unfortunatly, all to soon the slight rain shower ended. Yet the fresh smell that clung to each blade of wet grass hung in the air. Duo breathed in deeply; loving the smell that only came after the rain. He absently played with the tip of his long braid as he walked into what remained of the church. By some odd twist of Fate, the alter remained standing; relatively untouched by age and the harshness of the weather. Above the alter, the wooden carving of Jesus being crucified looked down upon the young pilot, a look of sadness yet hope lingering on it’s wooden features.
~~Light up your face with gladness, hide every trace of sadness. ~~
Duo stared up at the Christain icon and his hand unconsciously sought the golden cross he wore beneath his shirt. He cocked his head to the side as a song Sister Helen had sung to him played sweetly for his ears alone. He couldn’t remember most of the words, but the one part that had always stuck with him even through all the years. “Light up your face with gladness, hide every trace of sadness….” She’d whispered that to him many a time, and Duo had heeded her words. He’d learned to hide his sadness with a smile, learned how precious such an expression was.
“Thank you Sister Helen.” Duo murmured as he lowered his head and stared down at the tips of his boots.
~~ Altho' a tear may be ever so near,
that's the time you must keep on trying,
smile, what's the use of crying.~~
Duo looked around the burnt out church one last time. He saw that the last rays of the artificial sun were slanting through what was left of the once magnificent stained glass windows and blinked surprised. How long had he been here? Duo raked his hand through his hair and looked around at the place that had once been so important to him, his first home and his first family. Duo clenched his eyes shut as he thought about that. “Boys don’t cry.” He thought fiercely. “Neither Sister Helen or Father Maxwell would want me to weep for them, and they wouldn’t want me to live forever in the past.” Duo’s hand closed around his crucifix once again and took a deep calming breath. “Thank you for everything.” Duo whispered as he walked out of the church and into the weed choked church yard. He saw Heero standing next to the jeep they had rented. The Japanese boy’s Prussian blue eyes were softer then usual; yet they still seemed to burn with an inner light.
~~You'll find that life is still worth while
if you'll just smile. ~~
“Are you alright?” Heero asked as Duo hugged him and laid his head against the Japanese boy’s shoulder. Heero softly stroked Duo’s silken hair and the violet-blue eyed boy nodded. Duo smiled warmly up at his lover and his eyes smiled the most.
“Yeah, I’m fine now that you are here with me.” Heero smiled back at him; his Prussian blue eyes warm. Duo’s eyes widened slightly. “You smiled.” Heero immediately stopped smiling and his face lost all expression.
“So what?”
“I don’t think I’ve ever seen you smile like that is all.”
“Hn.” Duo grinned and kissed Heero gently. Heero shook his head ruefully and he and Duo climbed into the jeep. Overhead, the first of the night’s stars begain to shine in the artifical sky and Duo looked up at them as Heero drove.
“I’ll teach Heero to smile, just as you taught me Sister Helen, I promise.” Duo smiled over at his lover and Heero glanced at him from the corner of his eyes; and his lips twitched slightly. And in the rapidly darkening sky, two stars directly overhead, shown brighter then all others.
