Fighter's Destiny by Phoenix

Part One

By the year 3023, the world had drastically changed. One hundred years earlier, a virus was unleashed upon the world killing over seven billion, over eighty percent of the entire population. Those who survived discovered the disease had rendered most of them sterile. A new order emerged. If that had been all mankind was faced with the future might have been brighter. Unfortunately, a scientist created a computer with advanced AI. Frightened by the thing's ability to learn and adapt, he tried to turn it off. The machine responded by enslaving every human on the planet.

Now, free people lived in one city hidden in the mountains. The leader of those not enslaved by the machines is Millard Peacecraft. Princess Relena stands by his side and helps lead a council of elders. The city, called Hope, is divided into several tiers. The first is the Aristocrats. These are people with wealth, power, and rule from seats on the council.

The second tier is made up of people who are fertile. Called Blessed Ones, these individuals enjoy privileges beyond any other human in the city. They are considered more important than anyone because they carry the future of humankind. What a Blessed One asks for, a Blessed One gets.

The third tier is made up of people who make the city live. Simple people who cannot have children, but believe the time will come for man to reclaim the world. They are the craftsmen, cleaners, builders, and labor. On the third tier lives the lifeblood of the city, the Citizens.

The final tier is where the least wanted, but most important group, lives. While the Peacecrafts wish for peace, Millard realizes that the machines will not stop and so there is a need for a fighting force of some kind. The fighters are called Warriors. Each person volunteered for genetic alteration that increases speed, endurance, strength, and healing. The gifts come with a price, however, as a need for adrenaline develops and an increased libido. The Warriors are looked down upon by the rest of the city, seen as less than human, even though it is these people who keep everyone safe. As for this, the Warriors couldn't care less. They choose their path and fight with a heart and dedication that is amazing.

So begins their tale.
