Part Two: The First Revenge

It didn't take me long to figure out I was still in the Sank Kingdom. Delightful. As weak as I was the first priority was shelter; to do that I would need access to the money from Quatre's account. Simple for a person with Duo's background. Bump into a guy, remove the wallet, and walk away. All you really need is a single credit card. Of course, it was hard to find anyone that late at night, so I had to settle for a guy who thought he could buy me. I left him sleeping in an alley, minus his clothes, wallet, and dignity.

From there I broke into an electronics store at a mall; everything I was going to need in one place. Rich people do so love their convenience. It took an hour, far longer than usual but I wasn't at my best, to build something that overrode the codes on the card and let me input my own. The money was mine.

From there, I raided a clothes store, a computer store, a weapons store, a vitamins outlet, and avoided a rather stupid security guard. Haven't had that much fun in years. When I was done, I ended up with a top of the line laptop, guns, knives, how I love knives, plenty of clothes for what I intended, and enough supplies to make some truly interesting devices. I crammed it all into two large duffle bags and slung them over my shoulder. Heavy, but manageable.

Outside, dawn was just peaking over the horizon. Not much time left. Once everyone knew Duo was gone, they were bound to search for him. I'd managed to find a map of the city in one of the stores and quickly located a hotel that would serve my purposes; only three blocks from my current position. Perfect.

On the way, I found a closed pharmacy. Most people on L2 would have killed to gain access to the treasure trove that building turned out to be. I filled the last duffel bag with medicine and first aide items. Part of me kept dwelling on those I could have saved with these long ago.

By the time the sun was past the horizon, I'd checked into one of the most expensive hotels in Sank under the name Shin Getts Even. I thought it was cute. The guy at the desk looked like he wanted to argue with me, but since the account I gave him had more money than he'd ever see, he let me have the penthouse. His expression screamed the few thoughts bouncing around a vapid brain; fool figured I was some high priced whore waiting for his keeper. Well, the hotel could pay later, when my business in Sank was complete.

For the next week, I rested up, healing and plotting. Somewhere there was a video of Duo's rape, I wanted it destroyed. Luckily, Preventer Headquarters was in Sank; not five miles from the hotel. Using the laptop, I invaded their computers, scheduled maintenance of some phone lines and created an identity to get in. I also kept up with the efforts to find Duo; somebody was almost frantic, constantly checking reports. Curiosity briefly lit up my mind, but faded. It didn't matter. One week and three days to the date of Duo's death, Shinigami visited the world's supposed protectors.

No one questioned me, just looked at the ID card and waved me through, didn't even check the bags I had. These people were dumber than dear, departed Duo.

First stop was the records and evidence room. If that video was going to be anywhere, it would be there. The room itself is huge, but very tidy. A short search through the computer records revealed all materials related to the incident were placed in a single cabinet.

Things were going great, right? Don't make me laugh. The cabinet was filled with tapes and videos of meetings, but nothing labeled the date of Duo's death. Then I found a slip of paper. It was titled with the date I was looking for and then had spaces to show when and who checked the video out. The last blank showed Noin had it now. The last blank. There were a total of fifteen slots for names. Duo's rape was a number one hit.

Hooking up my laptop, I ran through the Preventers security cameras. Noin wasn't in any of the rooms. A few seconds thought led me to check which rooms had the cameras turned off. Only one did. A simple command switched it on and my computer recorded everything. Like it wasn't going to be branded on my soul anyway.

The room had three occupants: Noin, Relena, and Hilde. They were watching the video and commenting on Duo's performance.

"You know," Relena said, "I can't figure out why he's making such a big deal out of it. All that screaming and struggling. It's not like he hasn't whored himself before."

"Someone a well-raised as yourself and Zechs could never understand the motivations of such a creature," Noin put in.

"I think he's just showing off for the camera." Hilde hissed. "I hope he did get hurt. He deserves it! The sick bastard."

Sitting there and enjoying watching someone's rape wasn't sick? Somewhere, deep in my mind, I thought I heard Duo screaming. Not bad enough to be raped physically and emotionally, but would it never end? Hilde was in on it and because Duo was bi. Pathetic. One more to add to the list.

Their conversation went on like that for an hour as they rewound and watched it again and again. Finally, Lady Une came in. I expected her to lay into the women. Nope. Une didn't look a bit surprised to find them there.

"Aren't you tired of that yet?" She sounded exasperated. Maybe somewhat bored.

"When I am tired of the video, I'll let you know." Little miss Queen sniffed.

"You could just let us make copies." Hilde suggested. Oh she was going to pay!

Une's eyes became frigid. "If I ever found out any of you made a copy, you will regret it." The whole sentence was said softly, but the three women paled anyway. "Now take the video back to the records room and leave it alone. We went to a great deal of trouble to gain that evidence."

Only crazy people messed with Une. Yet, she knew about this desecration of Duo's memory and allowed it to happen. While the Lady may be tough, I am death; she would pay for this. Starting tonight.

I quickly shut off the computer and hid behind a cabinet. Noin returned the tape by herself never noticing how close her fate lurked. Wanting to have complete revenge, I stayed in my dark corner, using the laptop to create the last bit of my revenge on Une.

Death was too good and far too quick for those who killed Duo. No, I needed for them to suffer. Massively. Just as I, he, he had. I made a list of what each loved more than life itself. One by one, those things would be taken from them. One by one. Nothing could stop me. Nothing would. Noting the late hour, I decided to begin. Lady Une was first; I was at Preventer Headquarters after all. No need to waste such a golden opportunity.

Une loved the Preventers, considered all the members as family. Outside of this organization, the woman had no life. It was her stated goal to have the most advanced, up-to-date, and thorough database ever created. Through her hard work and dedication, the Preventers had grown respected and valued. But it still had cancerous parts festering and corrupting the whole.

She hadn't been in charge of the operation resulting in Duo's murder, but obviously, the bitch wasn't doing anything to avenge him or make things right. Time to take what she valued. Time for her to see what Shinigami could do. Time for her dreams to die.

The first thing I did was place what looked like small wads of gum in each of the file cabinets; the material was a special creation of Howard's. Kept sealed in plastic, it was harmless, but expose it to air and watch the fireworks. The wad would burst into a huge ball of flames about five minutes after being touched by that first particle of oxygen. Most of the cabinets I just threw the stuff in; there wasn't time to be fancy. I did, however, take all the video, audio, and other evidence from Duo's case. I had plans for the stuff.

I'd just managed to get down the hall when the first explosion echoed along the hall. People started yelling and running around. The sprinklers went off, adding to the confusion. What I found funniest was that the cabinets were supposedly fire proof and would keep the water out. By the time anyone managed to get them open, everything they held would be ashes.

While the confusion reined, I uploaded a nasty little virus to the computer system. Heero might have been able to stop it, if he was around. If he had the time. This virus was special, something of my own creation and therefore reflected who I was, Death.

The thing ate all the files and memory in the Preventer system and used the phone and satellite systems to spread to every Preventer computer on Earth and the Colonies. But that's not all! Please, I am far more imaginative than that. Une had to know who did this and why.

The whole process would take about thirty minutes; plenty of time as everyone was busy with the records room. Once all Lady Une worked so hard to build was destroyed, a two simple sentence would appear on all the screens.

"You sold Duo's virginity and innocence. Prepare to face the Reaper."

As an added touch, blood would slowly drip off the words. I had no intentions of killing them, but a little mental anguish is always fun to inflict.

So I left Preventer Headquarters. Lady Une lost all the Preventers worked for years to gather. The blow had to hurt terribly. Imagine losing everything you lived for in one single event. Worse, the message would lead people to ask questions. Questions that would destroy her reputation and standing if ever answered. And I knew they were going to be answered. I'd see to it myself if necessary. Before the month was out, Preventer Une should know what it felt like to be torn apart. She'd be stripped of her rank, title, and never live down the shame of it all.

I wondered, just for a minute, if Une would take Noin down with her. I doubted it. Noin wasn't the type to allow that to happen. No, Noin's lesson could be held until later. I already knew what she loved and how to take it. Next stop, though, was the L4 Colony. Quatre needed a visit.
