Here is the idea: There is an apartment building that many of the characters we all know and love live in. (Others exist in the world, but do not live in the building.) Yes, this is AU and those who don't like AU can just ignore me and keep their rude comments to themselves. Those who can stomach this idea are welcome to send me suggestions for characters. Please note: this series will be straight, yaoi, yuri, have drama, comedy, angst, seduction, lemon, (Duh this is me writing this), all sorts of pairings/groupings, (or should that be gropings?) some slight supernatural stuff, terror (hey look at the people living together), and just about anything else I can think to throw in. Deal with it! ;) This is intended as a series where the characters interact, but each story can focus on a different apartment. So here are the arraignments so far. Please note: if I put a name and then another name with ( ) around it...that means there is an English name and the Japanese name. I want people to let me know which one to use. You don't say and I decide and then you have to keep your mouths shut because you had a chance and did nothing. So there. ;)

People who exist outside the building: Bulma, Otto, Walker, Barrett, Tifa, Rufus, Rude, Goten, Rogue, Rinoa, Xu, Shu, Akane, Kuno, Kurabawa, Yomi, Neu, Hell, Schoen, Tea, Selphie, Koenma, Mai, Joe, Gaddes, Dilandau, Keiko, Kodachi, Soi, Gendou, Kouzou, Hiko, Jin'e, Nephrite, Jadeite, Yui, Bishop, and Marie. I can add more. I am also thinking of adding people from X, JoJo's Bizarre Adventures, and BASTARD. Should I?

The Building by Phoenix

Prologue

Now I know what you're thinking. This is one rundown dump. Right? Wrong. You look at the building and you see the need for a new coat of paint, the dirty windows, and the low-class neighborhood. I see the lack of graffiti that covers every other building in the neighborhood, a building run by a brave young man who's smaller than most of his tenants, and my home.

I will admit it's a strange place. Nowhere else on the entire earth will you find quite the same assortment of dreamers, doers, fighters, conmen, nutcases, and heroes. They work together in this uneasy alliance; none of them will admit they like each other. Of course, the occasional fight breaks out, but overall, they see those who live here as family.

It wasn't always like this you know. There was a time when everyone here hated everyone else. Most lived here because they couldn't afford anything else and the building reflected their feelings. It was covered with graffiti, windows were broken, and addicts and sellers used the lobby as a gathering place. The people living here didn't really live. Then he came. Quatre Winner. DO NOT ask me to pronounce his middle name; it is way beyond me.

Ah, there he is now. Oh don't look like that! Yes, he's small and looks really feminine, but under his exterior is the heart of a lion. Better yet, it's a good heart. Unlike his father. See, Quatre is a kind soul; not many people like him anymore. His father Mr. I-am-a Hardass-Business-Man Winner thought his only son was too weak to lead the Company when he died. His solution? Send the boy to this place and have him run a building where the four previous Mangers had been killed. Brilliant, ne? You get the feeling I don't like Mr. Winner? Good. Cuz I don't. Next time the man sets foot in this place, I'm clawing his eyes out.

The kid's first day here, a drug dealer broke into his apartment and tried to rape him. I am very proud to say I helped save him. Quatre took me in and fed me, so I owed him. The struggling woke me up. The guy was twice the Manager's height, but Quatre was putting up one hell of a fight. I was furious that some asshole was trying to hurt the first nice person I'd ever met, I didn't even think; I just laid into that creep with everything I had. It distracted the monster long enough for Quatre to get loose and start yelling. The noise we made brought just about everyone in the building; even people from the 8th floor. Blondie, my nickname for Quatre, has that affect on people; they get all protective of him.

It was heartwarming to see everyone come together that first time. Trowa got there first and the look on his face was frightening. Normally, Bang Boy, again a nickname...I do this a lot, is very calm and passive. Up until that day, I'd never seen him angry. His greens eyes were glowing with rage as he pulled that dealer off Quatre and threw him out the door. Squall, Seifer and Zell were waiting. Those three really know how to deal damage. Then Vegeta stated in and that was all she wrote for the creep's consciousness. The rest held the bastard until the cops came; they even signed witness statements and testified at the trial! Amazing for this area.

That's how it started. Everyone kind of adopted Quatre; looking after him and listening to what he had to say. He convinced them of their own worth and the value of where they lived. One day, Quatre and I woke up to find the building clean of all graffiti and washed to within an inch of its life. The rest of the day, everyone pitched in; the whole place was clean in no time. For the first time, we had something to bring us all together, like a family.

That night some taggers tried to mess up what we did. They found the meaner tenants waiting for them. Guys like Sephiroth, Karasu, Hiei, Vegeta, and Heero. Girls like Une, Sally, and Jean Summers. Even I'm not dumb enough to mess with any of them. The paint bandits were found tied naked to the streetlights along the street the next morning. I almost died laughing.

What? Why are you giving me that look? Oh! I see! You have no idea who I'm talking about. I forgot you just got here. Hmmmmmm. Where should I start? There's so much to tell. How about with Trowa? He's the Custodian here. You know, handyman. He's really nice; his whole aura is wounded, though. I think someone hurt him a long time ago. Anyway, he's tall with strange brown hair. It grows over one eye in this freaky bang, hence his nickname. Oh and he has green eyes. Kind of like emeralds. The guy hardly ever says anything.

Next I guess would be the tough guys. Them you desperately need to know about. Stay out of their way when they frown. Not that they'd hurt you; none of them have ever hurt me, but you never know. There's been times I thought more than one of them was about to go postal and kill us all.

First group is Squall and Seifer. Talk about a pair. They run a detective business out of an empty apartment and are really good at it. Both know how to fight and fight dirty. Not only that, but they can use some very nasty weapons. Outwardly, they seem really cold, but if you look into their eyes, you can see all the pain they hide. Loneliness is eating them alive. Makes me want to cuddle them. Of course, it'd probably get me killed; might be worth it though. Mostly, I want to smack them upside their heads. Why? Hang around and watch carefully.

 Two other guys who live here are Zell and Irvine. Now, Squall and Seifer are in total lust for those two. And they drive me crazy by doing nothing about it! I can smell the desire oozing from Zell and Irvine every time the pair get near them. Yeah, I could smack those two as well. What is it about men that makes them sit there and stare when they could be screwing like rabbits? Sorry. They just frustrate me so much.

Also beware of Vegeta. Down deep, he's cool. However, he's got it into his head that he has to be the biggest badass around. It pisses him off when he finds out he's not. Having Bulma for an ex-wife doesn't help much either. She's constantly nagging him about his lifestyle. Personally, I think she should just get a life.

Goku and Yamcha are his lovers; those two tend to mellow him out a bit. Still, on a bad day, Vegeta might just pound someone for the hell of it. The only two people I know he would never hurt are Goku and Yamcha. He couldn't hurt Goku if he wanted; the big man is tough. I mean TOUGH. Yamcha is the youngest of the group and they are really protective of him. Needless to say, I've added Yamcha to my list of people I need to cuddle someday.

Who else? Heero? You don't have to worry about him. If he has a bad day, you'll know it. But not because he takes it out on you. Nope. Everyone knows when Heero has a bad day. How do they know? See Heero takes it out on Duo. NO! Not like that! Really. See, if Heero has a bad day, he comes home and screws Duo silly. The worse his day, the louder he tries to make Duo scream with pleasure. I remember one time I was hanging with Duo and Heero came in looking like some sort of crazed killer. Not even acknowledging me, the guy grabbed Duo, threw him against the wall, pinned him there, and then started to rip his clothes off. Talk about hot. Whoa.

Our resident fruitcakes also bear watching. Karasu, Farfarello, and Xellos. Twice I've seen each of them looking at Quatre in a way I didn't like and let them know it. Jerks just smiled at me and walked away. I get shivers thinking about those smiles; made me feel like the main course at a banquet. The fact is, each of these guys is here chasing someone other than Blondie, but they don't seem to mind snacks while stalking their chosen prey.

Karasu is chasing a redhead name Kurama; I like Kurama. He's nice to me and keeps Hiei from eating me. Hiei is Kurama's lover and the main reason Karasu doesn't make his move. The creep'd be dead before he got far, Hiei would see to it. Vegeta and Hiei have a lot in common. I wonder if they hide the bodies in the same place?

Farfarello seems to want a cute little guy living upstairs. The kid's name is Omi. For the most part, Omi is like Quatre with an underlying current of cynicism Blondie doesn't have. The kid's protector is again his lover, Youji. Now Youji acts like a laidback womanizer; in truth, he only has eyes for Omi. Youji might not kill Farfarello for touching Omi, but he'd make him beg for death.

Xellos is exception of the group. The one he wants, wants him back. Zelgadis, though, is very unsure of himself. The poor guy can't seem to believe anyone would ever care for him. So Xellos pursues and Zelgadis runs. One of these days I'm going to trip Zel and let Xellos catch him. Hey, they'd be good for each other. I know about these things.

Brad Crawford isn't really crazy, but he is stalking Aya. Ken and Aya are lovers and I don't think Crawford can separate them. He does his best though. There's this girl called Tot who lives here. Once Brad hired her to flirt with Ken and get him in a compromising position. I managed to trip her just before Aya showed up so Ken was just standing there with this stunned expression on his face. Nagi wasn't too happy with Tot after that and Ken actually got as loud as Duo that night as Aya reminded his lover who he was with.

So what else do you need to know? Well, the best people to get food from are Zechs and Treize. Those two act like tough guys, but they have such a soft spot if you beg right. Best yet is Zechs knows just where to scratch. Yummy. Jean Summers is more than willing to give you a warm place to sleep, just never get between her and Scott, her husband. He hates sharing.

Hilde is a soft touch, but is only good for petting. She never gives out food. Her lovers, Une and Noin, are the same way. Cid is often drunk and Yuffie is out a lot so their apartment isn't a good place to go. Kenshin is nice, but Sano and Soujiro are chasing him and have this nutty jealous streak. The same goes for Ranma and Ryoga. Crazy females and males abound in this building.

Cloud, the kid with spikey bond hair, lives with Vincent and shares everything he has. Don't bother with Sephiroth. The man is hard as nails and only lets his guard down if he thinks no one is watching. You'd starve waiting.

Well, that's about it. As for a place to stay, I'd suggest Duo and Heero. It may be noisy, but they are both good people and will treat you well. Not to mention Duo is a very touchy-feely person. Always a plus. Stay away from Quatre. Blondie is mine and I don't share. That's him right now. Don't you just love how he sounds? I've never met anyone who could put so much love in "Here kitty, kitty."
