Notes: This is my attempt at a mystery as part of J. Wakabayashi's fic challenge. I've written the whole thing up, but I'm posting in parts. Part four Sally and Wufei follow up a clue.

I was rather surprised that we managed to get an appointment with Undersecretary Zechs Merquise as easily as we did.
"Come in, Miss Po. I've heard some interesting things about you and I've wanted to meet you in person to see if they were true," The tall, blonde man with hair way too long for society said, gesturing to a chair.
"Just from whom have you be hearing this things?" Sally asked curiously.
"From Mr. Sherlock Holmes."
"Ah," Sally smiled, "Then you are not to believe them. Mr. Holmes and I have what I like to think of as a friendly rivalry. He doesn't quite see it that way."
Mr. Merquise laughed. "Okay, but I promise not all that he said was damaging. What can I do for you?"
"Yes, I investigating a robbery. Do you know a Miss Maxwell?" She inquired.
"Miss Maxwell? No, the name doesn't sound familiar," he said, shaking his head.
"How about Mr. Trowa Barton? Her intended?" I asked. What can I say? I hate not being part of the action.
"Mr. Barton, I believe he's the eldest son of Stanley Barton, the shipping magnate. I wasn't aware that he was engaged," he offered.
"The official announcement hasn't been made yet. There are a few complications. Miss Maxwell had been attacked in Hyde Park recently."
"REALLY? How is the little dear? Is she alright?" Merquise asked with slight insincere concern.
"She was shaken up, but she's fine."
"I'm glad to hear it."
"Nice of you to be concerned for a person you don't know," I said with a hint of disgust. Sally looked at me sharply and I decided to remain quiet the rest of the interview.
"I'm concerned for all human beings," he quipped.
"Well, Mr. Merquise, we won't take up any more of your time," Sally said as she got up. "Oh, are these your children?" she asked as she picked up the picture on his desk.
"No, they are my sister's. I'm not married," he says absently.
"They are very striking looking children, don't you think, Mr. Chang?"
I walked over to look at the picture, trying to see what Sally was hinting at. I saw two boys and a girl with brown hair. At least that's what one can assume from a sepia photograph. The point was lost on me, but I knew Sally would fill me in later.
"Very handsome," I remarked.
"Interesting eyes!" She said.
I looked at the picture again, and noticed the children's eyes. Ah, I see now.
"If you are trying to hint something. You're right. They are half-British," Merquise said with a sigh. "I get that all the time. Their father is Japanese. Dr. Heero Yuy. Go ahead, let's hear the jokes."
Sally looked at Merquise for a moment, "You'll find that Mr. Chang or myself never "joke" about mixed heritage. What manner of medicine does your brother-in-law practice?"
"He's a surgeon. Why?"
"Just curious. Thank you, Mr. Merquise. Shall we, Mr. Chang?"
We left.
"Where to now, Sally?"
"I think it's time we went to a doctor to check on your head," she said.
"What does Dr. Yuy have to do with anything?"
"Well, I think I understand what's happened, but I still need a few pieces to the puzzle put in place."
"What's to know? Merquise stole the letter," I said exasperated.
"True. But what was his motive?"
"To protect his sister? Do you think Yuy is the mysterious lover?"
"I'm almost certain, but I think Mr. Merquise also had another motive in this."
"Such as?"
"I'll let you work that one out on your own, Wufei," she smiled. I hate when she does that.
