Gundam Wing Addiction Archives

Okay. Since some folks only know Peter Gabriel's music from circa 1986, I was all set to do a songfic to In Your Eyes, or Sledgehammer, off of the SO album. But this song (although unknown unless you have the album) is tailor made for this series.

So here it goes (the song itself is short and depressing as well, ain't it cool!):

Category: Angst
Rating: PG
Pairings: None
Spoilers: Loosely based on episodes 47-49, I guess.
Feedback: C&C
Notes:
'--denotes thoughts--'
[--song lyrics--]

We Do What We're Told (milgram's 37) by babaca

Maybe it's because Zechs Merquise insisted on forcing the gundam pilots to come out and fight endlessly, but Duo was really starting to get annoyed. He sat in Deathscythe Hell amazed at how effortlessly Wing Zero and Heero were slicing and dicing through the mobile dolls sent their way. Duo was tired, oh so tired, but it's not like any of the pilots had a choice.

[we do what we're told
we do what we're told
we do what we're told
told to do]

Treize Khushrenada was giving a pep talk to his troops on MO- 2. He knew this fight was meaningless. It was designed to be just that. Meaningless, but he couldn't let the troops know. They idealized him and the ideal of peace he fostered in them. He knew they would fight to the bitter end, regardless of whether he would martyr himself to the cause or not.

[we do what we're told
we do what we're told
we do what we're told
told to do]

Quatre had to rub his eyes underneath his goggles. Weariness had been building. He knew that he must continue the fight. He knew they were the only means of defense for the people of the colonies who did not want this war.

[one doubt]

Trowa seemed to sense the weariness of his fellow pilots. "We may all die today, but today we will make a difference. Remember that," he said to them via radio. Unfortunately, he wasn't sure he really believed it at all. 'I doubt we'll make any difference at all.'

[one voice]

'I see no justice in this battle. Neither side has shown me the clear path of their ways. I can only stick to the path that is true to me,' Wufei thought as he battled on. Seeking out one of his true enemies. It didn't matter if it was Treize or Zechs.

[one war]

'There is no other way,' Zech Merquise thought sadly. 'Forgive me, Father, it is the only way.' He stepped into Epyon to seek out Wing Zero and its intrepid pilot.

[one truth]

'I'm sorry Wufei, I wanted it to be Milliardo, but I trust you'll know what to do, when the time comes,' was Treize's thought as he sought to challenge the young pilot who had accepted his earlier challenge for a duel months earlier.

[one dream]

Relena looked out of the window of the Libra at the firefight outside and prayed for a better future.

OWARI

It's a downer but at least it's short. :)
