Title: Dragon Knight

Comments: This story was originally written for fantasy week for GWML
(a while back) but I didn't get to finish it until today. I'm
posting the first part first because I edited a few typos and I
figured that most people forgot that part by now... soooo... here it
is! Completed at last. Thanks everyone who wrote to me and
encouraged me to write (especially this story)! I really do
appreciate it!
The phoenix shrieked, and Trowa could feel the heat as she began to burn.
"The cycle has begun!" Trowa exclaimed, "It's too soon."
"There is no time left, beast master," the phoenix's words were slow and pained, "I must go to Dorothy."
As she spoke those words, the ceiling to the phoenix's cell open, and the phoenix flew out.
"By the gods," Trowa whispered.
Then Trowa heard it. He heard the roar of the Wing dragon. Instinctively, he returned the call with a loud whistle.
Almost immediately there was a harsh bang against the wall of his cell. Trowa quickly moved away from the wall. Another bang and the rocks crumbled away to reveal a very dusty white dragon.
"Duo!" Trowa quickly approached the dragon and absent-mindedly dusted off Duo's skin, "Is Quatre here too?"
"He's facing Dorothy," Duo said as he lowered himself to Trowa's embrace, "Get on. As soon as I get you out of here, I will come back and help Quatre."
"Dorothy's phoenix, we have to get her out of here too!" Trowa told Duo quickly, "She is about to give birth."
If Duo knew how to curse, he would have cursed. Unfortunately, Trowa and Quatre had kept him very sheltered.
"Where is she?" Duo asked as Trowa climbed on his back.
"I don't know," Trowa answered, "But she has began to burn."
"Oh, big burning birds are not hard to find," Duo said as he flew off.
Heero felt his blood come alive as he battled. He had never met a knight who was this good.
"You fight well," the dark eyed knight complimented as he parried Heero's sword.
"As do you." Heero's words were cut off by a loud shriek. The dark eyed knight immediately looked startled. Without another words, he withdrew and started to run towards the castle. Completely confused, Heero ran after him. This was not part of the plan.
Quatre knew Dorothy was holding back. She was saving her strength for something. what?
Suddenly, golden flames covered the sun, and a burning phoenix descended to Dorothy's side.
"Are you ready to witness my ascension to immorality?" Dorothy asked Quatre as the phoenix collapsed to the ground.
"What have you done?" Quatre's eyes widened in horror as the phoenix began to turn into a woman. very heavily pregnant human woman. who looked as if she was on fire.
"Meiran!" a dark knight screamed as he ran toward the woman. Heero was running behind him, but when he saw what was happening, he stopped in his tracks.
"Don't touch her!" Quatre warned, but it was too late, the dark knight was already pulling her into his embrace. To Quatre's surprise, he did not burn. "The phoenix's mate." Quatre whispered.
"I'm sorry Wufei," the woman said softly as her eyes closed and her body melted into nothing but ashes and Wufei was left holding a crying baby girl in his arms.
"No!" Wufei cried, "Damn you Meiran! Don't leave me!"
"How touching!" Dorothy smiled coldly at the unfolding drama and Quatre felt himself being tossed against a wall. He had been too distracted by the phoenix and he did not even see the spell coming.
Before Quatre could even pull himself up, another shadow blocked the sun.
"Duo... no!" Quatre struggled to get up from the wall, his head bleeding from the harsh impact.
With the wave of Dorothy's hand, a golden arrow appeared and stuck the dragon in midair. Dark red stained the pure white, as Duo crushed into the courtyard and Trowa rolled off his back.
"Masters of beasts!" Heero suddenly knew. The immortality spell called for the lifeblood of the master of beasts. the Wing Dragon was what Dorothy required and not a beast master.
"Don't do this Dorothy!" Quatre begged.
"I already won, Quatre," Dorothy cross her arms together and an invisible hand crushed him against the wall, slowly chocking him.
"Not yet!" Heero said as he lunged at the witch with his sword.
"Oh you don't know enough to play in this game, knight!" Dorothy said while she waved her hand towards Heero. Heero found that he could not move suddenly, his whole body frozen in place. His sword was just inches from Dorothy, and yet he could not strike her down.
"But I am," Quatre whispered. Before Dorothy could respond, Heero's sword ran through her.
"NO!" Dorothy screamed as her entire body began to melt. In a matter of seconds she was nothing more than a puddle on the ground. Quatre collapsed from where he had been pinned against the wall but Trowa caught him.
Still holding Quatre, Trowa turned to Wufei, "Move away from the phoenix's ashes!"
Wufei was too shocked to resist and he stepped away from the ashes. The baby girl cried harder.
"Duo!" Heero went to the dragon. The white dragon's eyes were barely open as Heero cradled Duo's head.
"I told you Quatre was smart," Duo whispered, "I told you the spell on your sword would work."
"Don't talk," Heero stroke the dragon's head.
"I can see a light, Heero... it's so beautiful." Duo breathed as he eyes focused on something behind Heero.
At that moment, Heero could see a light too. The blinding light shone until Heero was forced to close his eyes.
"Meiran!" Wufei called out as the phoenix rose from her ashes.
The phoenix extended her golden feathers, and flew to Duo's side.
"Neat trick," Duo said to the phoenix before he started coughing, blood running from his mouth.
Heero saw droplets of water slid from his face, and it took him a moment to realize that it was his own tears.
Duo dragon licked the tears away, and Heero did not resist at all. Heero ripped his cape off, and cleaned the blood away from Duo dragon's mouth, "Don't leave me, Duo. I don't want to be alone again."
The phoenix meanwhile sniffed Heero slightly, and then smacked him really hard in the back yelling, "If you used your sword earlier, you could have saved him."
"Meiran!" Wufei scolded, at the same time trying to calm the still crying child.
Heero did not argue as more tears fell out of his eyes. Duo licked his face again, "I think I prefer it when you had chocoberry all over your face."
"Why are you not sobbing?" Meiran phoenix demanded, "Your one chance at happiness is slipping away with this dragon! You know that, don't you?"
"Meiran!" Wufei came closer, one hand holding the crying babe the other pulling the phoenix away from Heero.
"Oh, you knights are all the same!" Meiran complained as she transformed back into a beautiful young woman and took the babe from Wufei. As soon as the babe was in her arms, she stopped crying.
With Trowa's help, Quatre slowly approached Duo, but his eyes were on Meiran, "Are you sure?"
"Of course, I'm sure," Meiran said as she began to suckle her baby.
"Duo, can you get up?" Quatre asked gently as he put his hand on the dragon's head.
Duo blinked slightly, and his eyes widened. With the push of his legs, he stood up.
"Duo?" Heero said in amazement.
"I feel... fine," Duo blinked some more, "I don't understand."
"You sniffed him, haven't you?" Meiran asked, "Surely you must know!"
"I..." Duo looked as if he was blushing again, "I wasn't sure."
Heero and Wufei looked at each other, and felt some comfort in each other's confusion. Evidently only the knights were confused and everyone knew what was going on.
"You," Meiran pointed to Heero, "are a dragon knight. Actually, you are his dragon knight."
"Dragon knight?" Heero repeated looking to Quatre for some help.
"There are certain knights who are born special," Quatre explained as he patted Duo slightly, "They are born at the exact time a Wing dragon is born, and they form a bond from birth. The dragon knight's tears have the power to heal the dragon he's bonded with."
"That's why Meiran was trying to make you cry," Trowa smiled slightly, "Your tears are what healed Duo."
"I..." Heero felt even more confused.
"Knights." Meiran shrugged. Suddenly she wobbled a little, and Wufei was quick to be at her side, steadying her. Meiran smiled at him.
"My mate has just given birth, and she needs rest," Wufei said to the others, "We thank you for freeing her and saving her life, but I think it's time we go home. We have been away for too long." Meiran nodded. She turned her face skyward, and within seconds millions of lovebugs appeared, forming a large red carpet in front of them. Wufei helped his wife and daughter on to the carpet.
"See how Shenlong phoenix can talk to them too," Duo whispered to Heero.
"Thank you for saving Duo's life Meiran" Quatre smiled at Meiran, and then at Wufei, "Good luck phoenix knight." He watched as the small family disappeared into the sky before turning to Heero.
"Your quest has been successfully completed, dragon knight," Quatre said, "What do you plan to do now?" Heero considered the question. Meanwhile Duo gently licked the blood away from Quatre's head and Trowa ripped of his sleeve and bandaged Quatre's wound.
Heero watched them for a moment before speaking, "Duo said you needed a knight."
"We do," Quatre nodded, "Especially a dragon knight. Would like to come and join our family?"
Heero smiled for the first time in a long time.
"Why didn't you tell him about the mating part?" Wufei asked his mate.
"I think it will be a nice surprise when he realizes that Duo can transform," Meiran snuggled up to Wufei, "And if my nose is right... and it always is, Duo is going to like transform a lot more now when they both figure out about the mating part."

Duo: *whispers aside* If there is a story that Draco hasn't finished and you are dying to see Draco finish, just email the insane person. Draco does try to priorize based on death threats...
