Disclaimers: I don't own the characters from Gundam Wing, I just play with them for non-profit fun until they run screaming back to their creators.
Warnings: AU - AAAAAAAAAAAU. Some yaoi, lemon, violence, language. You should be a legal adult to read this. Open-mindedness helps, too.
Pairings: all over the map; Duo-centric. yaoi and het.
Author's Notes: A huge helping of "suspension of disbelief" would be appropriate before you read this. I'm sure J or G could explain the science behind it, but they're kinda dead right now...
Part 6 ~ Mess
He crashed into a barrier and through it, bathed in pain. He swooped up and around, dizzy with sudden double vision. He was looking down at himself from a vantage point near the ceiling as he lay on his back gasping and moaning and watching the walls spin and twist around him.
He shut his eyes and the walls steadied. He drifted down towards himself, noting the grimy skin and hair, the gaunt look of his body, and the lines of grief and despair etched around his mouth and eyes.
He found himself mourning, so saddened by the sight of himself that tears slipped from under the closed eyes even as his body shuddered for breath.
Shhhhh, poor boy. He reached out to reassure himself and slipped under his own skin instead.
His sobs for air lessened, taking comfort from... something... had there been someone here? It had felt like someone had laid a warm hand on his shoulder, or had that been himself reaching out...? He couldn't remember, couldn't think...
He rolled onto his side and curled up, eyes sliding shut. So good to just drift away...
He was almost gone when the creak of a door and footsteps behind him jerked him back from oblivion. He almost wept again, he had been so close.
"Here he is, I found 'im!" The voice was eager and a little fearful. Hands tugged at him, sprawling him onto his back. His eyes were half-shut, unfocussed. He couldn't see, didn't want to.
"This is the best thief you can find, Yaros?" The second voice sounded singularly unimpressed. "He's strung out. I have no use for losers, or those that recommend them."
He was numb, starting to float away.
"Buh-but, he's a good thief - the best I ever seen!" The first voice held traces of panic. "I seen him lift a wallet off one copper and put it in another's pocket without either of them feeling a thing!!! And he tracked down and broke into the Devil Kings' secret storehouse an' stole some Bliss when we was all hurtin for sumpthin... He... he's just... a l-loser when he's high, is all!"
Ominous silence hung heavy in the air, but he was past caring. He was going away into the shadows and air.
"Humph. We'll soon see. Get him to the pod."
Reality winked out.
