Title: End Of The Day

Notes: My brain laid down and died.
I look tired. There are bags underneath my eyes, and fine lines that will soon blossom into wrinkles.
The bathroom door opens behind me, and Hirde walks with a rose in her hand. "Hey."
"Hey." I swing around so I can face her rather than look at her reflection.
She walks to my side, and drops the single red rose in front of my toiletries. "How was your day?"
"Long," I say as she starts to massage my shoulders. "If I asked you nicely, would you go kill some people for me?"
Hirde laughs and shakes her head. "Planning to give up on being a total pacifist, do you?"
"I'm too tired to be a total pacifist right now. And if you love me, you shouldn't ask tough ideological questions." I lean into her touch.
"Consider the tough ideological question withdrawn," Hirde says as she unknots my shoulders.
"What's the rose for?" I pick up the rose and finger the pedals.
"For you. The guys in my ops unit insist that if you give a girl a single red rose and a good line, she will fuck your brains out, so I thought I try my luck." Hirde says and then kisses the top of my head.
"And they say that romance is dead."
"Will it work?" Hirde asks as she slips one of her hands underneath my shirt.
"I'm feeling kind of frumpy right now, actually."
"Nah. You look great." Hirde turns me around to face the mirror again. "Look at you," she says as her fingers strokes through my hair. "In the old days, soldiers would have gone to war for you."
"Thank God we live in a civilized age where people only go to wars for things like power and greed."
"And a beautiful girl is won and lost on a single rose?" Hirde says, then kisses my neck softly
"Maybe," I turn my head to kiss her back. "But I'm still waiting for the good line."
"I stole the rose from Wufei's garden. I nearly died before I could get it to you. Isn't that enough?"
I laugh against her skin. "That's enough for now. But tomorrow..."
Hirde swallows the rest of the sentence.
