Heero Yuy wasn't sure which hybrid of Une sat before him. He knew when the hair was down she was Lady, all sweetness and light. When the hair was up and the glasses on, she was Colonel, all vindictiveness and hellfire. Before him sitting in a chair was a combination of the two. Her hair was down, the glasses on.
"Pilot 01, I hesitate to do this, but I require your help," came the voice that sounded very Colonel-like.
"Hn."
"It seems that one of our pilots, one that you know because you have work with him has disappeared," the voice continued.
"You mean Trowa Barton," Heero replied.
"Hai. We sent him on a routine surveillance mission near an enemy base. We lost contact with him 12 hours ago."
"Why tell me?" asked the captured pilot.
"Because I believe with your skills, you will be able to return him to us," now the voice was softer and Lady-like.
"And you want your mobile suit Vayeate back." He watched as the Lady's features hardened into the sterner Colonel Une. He preferred this personality better because at least he knew how to deal with her.
"Okay, 01, don't get smart with me. The coordinates are programmed into the Mercurius. Don't try anything funny.'
"Who is to say I don't just leave in the Mercurius to escape?"
"I had the scientists add a device to the suit to make sure that won't happen. Any deviations from the set flight plan will lock down all exits and make the suit self-destruct," Une smiled cruelly.
"What do I get out of this for helping you?" Heero asked. Well, he had to ask even if he knew what the answer was going to be.
"You get to live and breathe for another day. Now get out of my sight!" shouted Une.
"One more question," Heero was always one to push buttons. "Why save him?"
Une looked up. Nichols had just asked her the same thing not too long ago. "Because he is a valued pilot. Oz benefits from its most talented people!" was her Colonel Une response. //Because he's one of the few that understands me\\ was her Lady Une thought.
"Hn." He left escorted by two soldiers that took him to the mobile suit Mercurius.
Once suited up and ready to launch he started thinking. //Trowa, I hope you are okay. What's happened to you?\\ Over the many months that they've known each other Heero found his thoughts were about Trowa quite often. He was one of the few people that he allowed his mask to fall. Well, the man had saved his life when he tried to self-destruct that first time. They had spent months together, okay Heero was in a coma for the first month. But they had bonded into a friendly, if quiet friendship. He would never dare to dream for more. Not with Quatre hovering over the green-eyed pilot after every mission.
Since the suit had the coordinates punched in, there was very little he had to do but wait until it stopped where it was suppose to go. He had a tough time thinking that Trowa had actually been captured. He laughed. //This coming from a man who would never get captured alive, huh?\\ He allowed Trowa to capture him. When he realized the soldier in the OZ uniform was Trowa after an aborted attempt to kill the scientists, he knew he didn't feel betrayal. He knew there had to be a scheme on the other pilot's part. He felt deep down that Trowa wouldn't hurt him unless he had to. So he knew that if he had made any sudden movement Trowa would have shot him. It wouldn't have been a life threatening wound, but he didn't feel like playing the "soldier who ignores pain" guy.
He was also more than shocked when Une consented to allowing him to pilot the newly designed mobile suit Mercurius. Especially since his impromptu mission was to destroy the new suits and kill the scientists. He didn't know if Trowa had set that in motion or not. It afforded him a little freedom and the chance to "accidentally" blow up some mobile dolls. The Mercurius and Vayeate were designed to work as a team. It wasn't that hard working with Trowa as a team. They had been doing just that for months against various OZ bases. He did worry about Trowa's cover being compromised. He knew that soldier Nichols didn't like Trowa one bit. Nor was Nichols afraid to voice his distrust to Une. Fortunately, Une both the lady and the general seemed to like the slender soldier and essentially ignored Nichols' advice.
The suit slowed down when it got to the enemy base. Heero punched in some data to see if it could locate Trowa. The computer found him. He was not in the easiest part of this compound to get to, but he knew he had to try.
Trowa had felt better. He tried sitting up, but it was difficult when you are laying face down with your hands bound behind you. He didn't dare contort his body to have his handcuffed hands in front of him. He did that earlier and this is why he was in the beaten, bruised state he was in now. He managed to turn his body and half-heartedly sit leaning against a wall for support. He attempted to ignore the pain.
He was rather embarrassed that he got caught. His concentration had momentarily lapsed for just a second. A second that cost him his freedom. //This is bad. I doubt anyone from OZ will come for me. I'm a liability now. Wufei, Duo and Heero are now imprisoned on the moonbase. And Quatre?\\ He wasn't sure where Quatre was. His eyes surveyed his cell. //Only the finest in prison decor,\\ he chuckled to himself. //At least no one has tried to rape me. Yet. Some of the stares he got from his jailors did not make him happy.\\
//Heero?\\ Trowa thought he saw a shadow by the door that could have been Yuy. //Boy, you are imagining things!\\ Suddenly the door was blown open. Cobalt blue eyes stared at him.
"Can you walk?" Heero asked, trying not to sound very concerned.
Trowa knew better. For every cold stare he got from Heero he had learned to interpret the meanings behind them. He knew that Heero could read his eyes as well. It was how they managed to work so well together. They understood each other. Heero's eyes were saying to me, 'Are you okay?'
"I think so," was Trowa in an equally unemotional state. Heero almost smiled. He saw the 'What took you so damn long?' look in Trowa's emerald eyes.
"Let's go!" Heero pulled Trowa up to his feet. He inwardly winced when he saw that he had accidentally hurt Trowa with that maneuver. "I'll take the cuffs off when we get to Mercurius." They ran.
They made it to the Mercurius, but not before Heero had to kill several people to accomplish the fact. True to his word once they made it to Mercurius, Heero took a small laser and cut the links of the handcuffs.
"Sorry, I'm not as fast at picking locks like Duo. This should be fine for the moment."
"Heero, it has occurred to you that this is a rather small cockpit?" asked Trowa. "We should go back for Vayeate." The point was mute at the moment because the base was firing a beam canon at them.
"Trowa, if you don't plan to help, then shut up," Heero said while trying to outmaneuver the blasts from the canon. Trowa was standing by Heero, there wasn't much room for him to sit anywhere.
"Bank left."
"Thank you. If only we could get Vayeate..."
Trowa's eye's widened. "We can." Trowa began punching keys on the console. "We can operate it remotely. Remember the two suits work together."
From it's captured place on the base the blue mobile suit flew out firing at all in its way as it flew towards Mercurius. Vayeate blasted at the beam canon partially rendering it inoperable.
"Let's go," said Heero. He pressed a button and the locked plan to head back to Moonbase was entered.
Now that they were essentially on autopilot. Heero looked closer at his friend's wounds. Trowa shrugged it off.
"I'm fine, Heero. Nothing fatal."
"Let me be the judge." He began checking Trowa for other unseen damage. He started at the head to make sure he didn't feel any fractures. But secretly he just wanted to touch Trowa. Trowa seemed to recognize the fact and let the "examination" continue.
Heero's hands ran down Trowa's shoulders and arms. He pressed his hand to Trowa's chest, lingering a little too long over his nipples. They started to harden under the attention and Trowa's breathing changed a little. He rubbed his hands around the ribcage and Trowa gave a small cry of pain. Heero jumped.
"You may have broken a rib or two," Heero said.
"You think?" was Trowa's agonized reply.
Heero touched Trowa's cheek tenderly. It was bruised but that wasn't why he was gently touching him there. "I'm sorry."
Trowa almost fell over. //Heero's sorry? Is that possible? \\ "It's okay. I think it's the only real injury that hurts for the moment."
"Sit in the chair and I'll stand the rest of the trip."
"Don't be stupid, Heero. You have to pilot this thing."
"No, Une made sure everything would be autopiloted to make sure I didn't escape," Heero said.
"Look I'm pretty light. I can sit in your lap. Or if you have a spare space suit I could go out to Vayeate..."
"No. I don't want you out there alone in case you are in worse shape than you think," he said as he pulled Trowa into his lap. "This will have to do for the moment."
They sat quietly for a while. Trowa was starting to regret making this suggestion of sitting in the Wing Gundam pilot's lap. He was enjoying himself. It took every fiber in his being not to lean in to kiss Heero. He's wanted to be this close to him since he retrieved what he thought was Heero's dead body from the battlefield where he self-destructed. He fought off the desire because it was pretty obvious to everyone that Duo had laid claim to Heero. Besides he thought his choice of Heero would hurt Quatre. No one should hurt Quatre.
Heero kept mentally praying that Trowa wouldn't slide back an inch, otherwise he would no doubt feel Heero's raging hard-on. Why did he think Trowa's suggestion that they travel this way was a good idea? He wanted to grab Trowa and kiss him until he begged Heero to take him. //Stop it! Think of something else! Anything else.\\ So he thought about past missions. Or Relena naked. //Ah, that's better.\\
"Trowa?"
"Hai?"
"I need to get up for a minute. My leg is going to sleep."
"Gomen nasai." Trowa said as he rose to let the pilot get up. Because of the restrictive size of the cockpit they stood mere inches from each other. //What the hell? You only live once.\\ Trowa leaned in and kissed Heero.
Heero was on one hand startled by the kiss, but on the other hand he was thrilled it finally got to happen. He let himself melt into the kiss for a second before pulling back.
Trowa's eyes had an uncertain look. //Have I screwed this up? \\ "Heero, gomen," he began before Heero grabbed him and kissed him with more passionate urgency.
The radio in the cockpit blasted separating the men. "So 01 have you accomplished your mission?" was the irritated voice of Colonel Une.
"Hai!"
"We're giving you and the Vayeate clearance to land," said Une harshly. "Trowa?" The voice now softer.
"Yes, Lady Une?" answered Trowa.
"Welcome back."
"Thank you, Lady."
"Did 01 give you any trouble?"
"No, Colonel. I'll give you the full report once we land. I think I've procured some information that would of interest to you, Ma'am," said Trowa.
Heero looked at the taller pilot in great amusement as the man was addressing each personality of Une depending on just the tone of the voice.
"Good. Une out!"
"How do you do that?" asked Heero amazed.
"I work in a circus. You don't think I know how to juggle?" asked Trowa innocently.
Heero stared at him incredulously. Then he did something he seldom did around anyone, but what he found he did quite often when around Trowa. He laughed.
