This is one of the ideas I've been kicking around for what to do after MS. Its very underdeveloped, but the idea of the Ring Dive has intrigued me to no end.

Tell me what you think. Scrap it?, go with it? Shut up and just get done with one epic before starting another? ^_~

Disclaimer: I do not own the Gundam Wing characters. Nor am I making any money from this. The Ring Dive is from the heart-wrenching book 'Tigana', by Guy Gavriel Kay. As usual, the setting is from EverQuest. All of this is done without permission.
Note: I know I should be working on MS, but this just insisted on getting written. It has not been beta read or anything.
Warnings: AU, Fantasy, Sap, Shounen-ai, Some OOC and Angst
Pairings: 1x2
Archive: Don't bother, unless you really want to.

The Ring Dive by Annabell

The young king of Antonica stood at the end of the long pier, aware of the eyes of multitudes on him. The early summer winds tossed his dark unruly hair out of his cobalt eyes. The blue ocean rolled underneath and he could feel the pier rocking as wave after wave swept by. In his hand, he held his last hope to unite his island kingdom and prepare for war against their hated enemy, the kingdom of Odus.

Heero Yuy had not been king long, just a few years. But the greedy barons with their constant squabbling were tearing his kingdom apart. His father had been a weak king, allowing the courtiers to run roughshod over his court. His mother had died when he was very young. Now he was alone, trying to save the kingdom from the harsh countries to the west. He inhaled the salt-scented air and looked down, opening his hand. In it was the sea-ring.

Legend had it, the ruler of the kingdom would come down to the pier and offer a gift to the sea. The ring symbolized the unity of the ruler and his people and their dependence of the sea. If the gods were pleased by the gift, then they would bless the kingdom with prosperity. Their ships would be fast and their supremacy of the sea unchallenged.

Then once, with the kingdom being threatened by an invading army, the king had cast the ring into the sea. Later, some would say that a woman, mad with love for the king, dove after the ring and had surfaced in the harbor with the wet ring glistening in her hand. The priests decided that it was the oceans had accepted the ring and offered a bride in return. They wedded and the kingdom triumphed magnificently in the battles. For many years after, the Ring Dive became a symbol of the people's unity with their ruler and the sea.

Then, when body of the young lover of another king washed up on shore, the Ring Dive was discontinued. Until now.

Heero needed this ceremony to unite his kingdom. Then he heard the murmuring of awed voices behind him and turned. The volunteer for the Ring Dive had emerged from the gates of the castle.

Duo Maxwell stood at the end of the pier, dressed in a silk green robe, his long hair bound back in a single braid to stay out of the way during the dive. He had volunteered to dive for the ring. But he did not volunteer for the prosperity of the kingdom of Antonica. Instead, it was his mission to destroy the young king.

Duo was a spy from the kingdom of Odus, sent undercover to seek out Heero Yuy's weakness and exploit it. From when he was very young, Duo was raised to be the perfect lover, taught all the secrets of the bedroom. When he had proved himself to excel at his art, he was sent to Heero by way of a neutral country, as a gift. And when the time was right, he was to destroy Heero Yuy.

For over a year, he had been a constant companion to the young king. He had shown Heero the intimacies of the bedroom, given advice when asked, and had even saved the young king's life once. Now, when one of the High Priests suggested that the Ring Dive would be the way to unite the kingdom, Duo had volunteered to dive for the ring.

And his orders were to fail, thus destroying the people's faith in Heero, and dividing them even more. Making the kingdom of Antonica ripe for conquering.
