Integrating the Heart by AstroKender

Part Twenty

WuFei sat in the cockpit of Altron, awaiting the ranks upon ranks of Mobile Dolls that were headed this way. Damp palms gripped the controls tightly. He glanced back at the Peacemoth. It was to be protected no matter what.

"One Gundam versus an army of Mobile Dolls...Injustice." WuFei grumbled halfheartedly.

"Two Gundams, my Dragon." A voice floated through the COM unit. WuFei glanced towards his left and saw Tallgeese II jet out to join him.

"Treize-sama, what are you thinking?"

Treize raised one aristocratic eyebrow. "I'm thinking you'll need help. One Gundam cannot protect that ship."

"That ship has its own defensive measures. You are not necessary here, Treize."

Royal-blue eyes narrowed. "And you expect me to just sit around and twiddle my thumbs while you are out here risking your life? I am sorry to disappoint you, Dragon."

WuFei was about to retort when the first rank of Mobile Dolls hit. The Chinese boy grunted and turned to face his first enemy. Beside him, Treize did the same.

"Get back to the ship, Treize!" WuFei shouted. His trident shot out to impale a nearby Doll.

"Dammit, WuFei! This is not just your fight! Both the Earth and the Colonies are involved in this war! I will fight for both!" Tallgeese struck out, destroying to Dolls with one blow.

The Dolls were pitifully easy to destroy, as they threw themselves recklessly at the pair. WuFei crushed one with his Dragon Claw before turning to the next and raining deadly fire on it. "You're weak!" He shouted to the Dolls that rushed towards him.

"I agree, Dragon. It is like they were only sent here as a diversion of some sort..." Treize said, decapitating his nearest enemy. Realization hit him hard. "Kisama!"

WuFei paused in alarm and quickly called up Howard. "The Dolls are a diversion! We can't spend any more time fighting them. Can your men handle them?"

"No prob, Chang. I've got fifteen Taurus suits ready to disembark. Leave those Dolls to us!" WuFei closed his eyes in relief. Now what could the Dolls be distracting us for?

"Dragon! Watch out!" Treize shouted.

WuFei shot to the side just as a red blur swept passed him. Turning, he felt his body go numb. It was Epyon. Silently, the burgundy Gundam turned for another strike. WuFei braced himself for the impact but it never came.

"Haven't you had enough of this war, Millardo?"

Tallgeese had raised its beam saber to block the blow and tried to force the Gundam he had created back. But Epyon pressed its attack and Tallgeese was soon overpowered. Pulling back, both WuFei and Treize tried to regroup.

"Zechs, you bastard, answer me!" Treize shouted. Epyon simply rushed them again.

"It's empty..." The nobleman said in awe. WuFei once again dodged Epyon's deadly whip.

"What are you talking about?"

"Epyon has no pilot. It is being controlled somehow."

"Kuso! Then Zechs is still on Gemini." Altron's arm shot out in a lethal blow that Epyon easily sidestepped. "What do we do?"

Treize felt sweat begin to trickle down his forehead and wiped it away irritably.

"We survive."

Duo and Heero crept stealthily down the hallway. Pausing at an intersection, Heero looked back at the braided boy inquiringly. Wide indigo eyes stared back at him, seemingly memorizing everything about the Japanese boy. Heero disliked the look instantly. Finally, Duo pointed to the double doors at the end of the corridor.

"He's in there." He started past but Heero's arm shot out, stopping him. He hugged Duo tightly.

"We are both going to survive, you hear me? Don't do anything foolish." Prussian blue eyes watched as violet ones seemed to gaze inward for a moment. Duo spoke.

"Just don't hesitate, Heero. No matter what." With that cryptic statement, Duo continued down the hall.

Why would I hesitate? Heero watched the back of his lover creeping closer to the door and he followed. Coming to the iron doors, they halted. Heero drew his pistol and Duo took a deep breath. With one more glance at Heero, Duo pushed the doors open.

"Honey, I'm home!" He called into the darkness.

Duo looked around, awed by the sheer size of the room. All corners seemed lost in shadow. "What is this place?"

Heero absently wiped the sweat from his brow. "It's a training room. There is a slight drop in gravity, presumable for freer movement during exercises." He paused, winded. "There is something else wrong here, but I can't pinpoint it."

Duo glanced back at him in concern, then continued to peer in the far corner of the room. Slowly, dark pupils surrounded by violet turned white. Duo lost sight of Heero as he called on the ZSA, but he could still feel the boy, breathing heavily beside him. Looking back at the corner, his eyes narrowed at the now visible Zechs. Duo grinned humorously.

"Peek-a-boo, I see you."

The blonde laughed softly, drawing Heero's somewhat preoccupied attention to the corner. The lights of the room slowly brightened.

"So, you are the one who benefited from G's experiment."

Duo snorted. "Benefited? I almost lost myself! If is wasn't for the help of my friends I would've ended up as a heartless, psychopathic terrorist like yourself."

Ice-blue eyes flashed dangerously. Neither Duo nor Heero missed the white mark of the Zero System. Nor did they miss the telltale gleam of lost sanity.

"What I am doing with only benefit the Colonies." He hissed. "I'm fighting for them!"

"You're fighting for yourself!" Duo accused. "The earth hurt you so you're going to hurt it back!"

"They destroyed my home, my family...my life!" Pale hands clenched in remembered anguish.

Duo's eyes softened slightly. "I know what you feel. The colonies destroyed my life. It rips you apart to watch you loved ones die around you. But you weren't left alone, Zechs! Relena-"

"My sister will have nothing to do with me for what I've done...for what I will do."

Duo plunged on desperately. He had to at least attempt to save this once noble soul. He owed it to Relena to try.

"She's here, Zechs. On this ship."

"Give it up, Zechs." Heero added. "Surrender."

Zechs laughed harshly and stalked closer to the two. He watched as the Japanese boy pointed his gun at him. He smiled when he saw the Perfect Soldier's aim waver.

"Feeling lightheaded, 01? You must remember not to stay long in rooms with only thirty percent oxygen."

"Kuso!" Heero swore weakly, gasping.

"I want to thank you both for helping me win this war." Zechs bowed mockingly.

"What do you mean?" Duo glanced back at Heero worriedly. The Japanese boy would last long in these circumstances. Zechs chuckled.

"You've delivered to me the only thing that held me back from destroying Howard's little ship. Now that Relena is safe, the Peacemoth is doomed."

"How do you plan on attacking it?" Duo asked. "You have no men aboard this ship. And WuFei has probably finished what mobile Dolls you've sent out."

"It is a shame, 02, that you haven't fully explored the powers of the ZSA. Right now, Epyon is finishing off 05 and Treize. Then it will crush the Peacemoth like a bug."

"Who is flying Epyon?" Heero looked at Zechs' somewhat blurry form. "For that matter, who is flying this ship?"

Zechs laughed cruelly. Moving lightning quick, he picked up the Japanese boy and slung him against the wall. Heero slumped, unconscious. Zechs turned to the furious Shinigami.

"I am."
