It was late. As Heero opened the door and stepped out in the corridor he became aware of a movement far down to his right. Where Duo's room was. An enemy? Very unlikely. This safe house was very well protected. Gradually his eyes adjusted to the dim light, and he could make out a familiar figure walking towards him. What the.? WuFei? What was he doing here? As the Chinese boy passed him, Heero noticed that he had a slight red tinge to his cheeks. None of them spoke, they just exchanged glances as WuFei made his way past Heero and walked towards the stairs.
The Japanese boy just stood there for a few minutes, assessing the situation. Just before he had closed his own door, he had heard another door closing. So WuFei must have been inside Duo's room. Could they be. no! There had to be another explanation, Heero thought as he made for his original destination. Duo's room.
As often as he could, the sullen Japanese pilot would sneak out of his room late at night to watch Duo sleep. It had started when he one night, coming back from a mission, accidentally had gone into the longhaired Americans room instead of his own. The sight of normally so active boy peacefully asleep had fascinated him. Something he definitely wanted to experience again.
When he reached the door, he stopped for a while to consider his options. He always made sure to come during the early hours of the night when he knew that Duo would be deeply asleep. Sometimes Duo's talking could actually be useful, he thought with a smirk. Without letting it show he had listened to everything Duo said, and now knew that the pilot of Shinigami was easy to wake during the last hours of his sleeping period, but slept like a rock during the first.
However, if Duo and WuFei had been. doing anything, Duo would not be asleep at all. He really needed to find out! Finally he decided to knock. If the violet-eyed boy was awake he could always make something up. Say he had heard strange noises or something like that. The stoic pilot of Wing then swallowed nervously and knocked at the door. No answer. He then put his ear to the door. Not a sound could be heard from inside. He knocked again, and waited for a while. Then he quietly opened the door.
Duo was sleeping sprawled over the bed, bathed in the pale moonlight. His hair was unbound, flowing down the side of the bed like a shining river. He had kicked off his covers, revealing the graceful lines of his back and long legs. His only piece of clothing, a pair of boxers in some thin material, followed the seductive curve of his buttocks.
As Heero watched, Duo turned in his sleep to lie on his back. He slowly moved one arm over his head and made a content sleepy sound. Then he smiled faintly and sighed. Heero let out a breath he didn't realise he'd been holding, and relaxed. He couldn't stop his own lips from quirking slightly in response to the other boy's actions. Duo really was adorable when sleeping.
Then he frowned. There was no sign of anyone having been here, and still he was sure that he had heard the door. Stepping out of the door and closing it, he thought about the reasons WuFei could possibly have for being in Duo's room in the middle of the night. Just when his hand let go of the handle, he heard a sound from the stairs and looked up just to meet WuFei's eyes. Heero gave him a hard glare and proceeded to his own room. There was only one explanation to WuFei's behaviour; He was there for the same reason Heero had been. So. He had a rival? Well, Duo was his! He had to make that clear to WuFei. Briefly he pictured a scenario where Duo pulled him in for a kiss in front of the Chinese pilot. Hn. That would be the ideal solution of course, but then he would have to tell Duo how he felt first and he wasn't quite ready for that yet. And what if Duo didn't feel the same? He shoved that thought away and concentrated on the more acute problem; that he had a rival that could lure Duo away from him before he had a chance to tell the American how he felt. He fell asleep still pondering these thoughts, which gave him some truly nasty nightmares.
Heero woke up next morning in a truly vile mood. If he ever caught WuFei and Duo doing what he had dreamt they had done, he would kill the black-haired pilot of Shenlong. The fact that some of the things had seriously turned him on didn't make things better. If anyone were going to do that with Duo it would be him! Scowling even more than usual, he made his way to the scheduled meeting with the other pilots. Somehow he would make sure that WuFei stayed away from Duo.
"Where is Duo?" Quatre mumbled as Heero entered the room. "He said that he'd be here. Oh well, I guess he'll show up eventually. Oh Heero, you're here at least. Trowa won't be joining us today, but Duo will probably show up any minute now. Just take seat next to Wufei and I'll start going through the mission details."
Heero did what Quatre had asked, but not before giving WuFei a hard glare, which the Chinese boy duly answered with one of his own "I think Duo will be most suited for this one. However he might need a partner, and..."
"I'll go with him."
Quatre blinked surprised at the other two pilots who had managed to speak the same sentence simultaneously. They where quite busy glaring at each other however. Luckily Duo chose that exact moment to wander through the door.
"Hey, sorry I'm late, but I just had to finish that repair on DeathScythe! Is that my mission?"
Quatre nodded and handed him the data.
"I thought it would suit you", he said as he took out a handkerchief from a pocket. "Here, stand still, you have oil on your nose", he said with an amused smile and started to wipe it off. Duo almost crossed his eyes trying to follow Quatres actions, but obediently stood still.
"Thanks, I must have missed that one", Duo said with a sheepish grin when Quatre had finished. Then he continued going through the printouts. None of them noticed the angry glares from the other two boys in the room.
"Hmm, it seems I'm going to need a partner. Are you going with me?" he asked still with his nose in the pape
"Well, I..."
"Never mind," Duo interrupted reading on, "It looks like me and DeathScythe can do this by ourselves. Well, I'll better go and prepare. Later!" Then he disappeared as quickly as he had shown up.
A bit nervously Quatre went through the data for the other mission and made backup arrangements. When they had finished, Quatre decided to go and visit Trowa. He needed to talk, and Trowa was such a wonderful listener. And he always seemed to understand.
