Title: The Day Heero Almost Forgot

Duo and Heero were coming off of a week ling drag. The Preventers located a faction of former OZ that were not happy with the current government and were planning a takeover. There were not working the infiltration, but were in charge of the intelligence on this operation. That meant sleeping in short shifts in the office they both shared.
Luckily everything moved swiftly and smoothly. By the end of the week the Preventers had moved in. There were minimal casualties and no fatalities on the Preventers side. Unfortunately, by this time Heero's nerves were shot and every little personality quirk Duo has was wearing on his patience. Worse yet, Duo's patience were shot. For every little pen tap or crucifix twist he got a, "Would you stop that?!?" and for every "Would you stop that?!?" Heero got a, "Fuck off!" The worst came when Duo was flicking his fingernails together. Heero gave him a, "Would you stop that?!?" and Duo shot back with a rapid 'flick flick flick' right in Heero's face. "Oh, is this bothering you??"
Before Heero could say anything Lady Une cleared her throat. She had been standing in their open doorway and had been witness to the entire exchange. "Gentlemen, it is already 8 pm. You can finish that mission report in the morning. Go home."
They drove home in complete silence. Duo cooked dinner in complete silence. Heero did the dishes in complete silence. And they went to bed in the same complete silence.
Heero woke with a start. He looked over at the clock. It read 11:45 pm. He has this strange feeling, like something was missing or out of place. Duo was happily *not* snoring next to him. He went over the day's events. He knew he locked everything up. He knew everything that needed to be put away was. He knew, absolutely *knew* that everything he was supposed to do was done. He sat there and wracked his brain but simply could not come up with anything. After several minutes he gave up and tried to go back to sleep, but it just kept nagging at him. He lay there tossing and turning in a vain attempt to sleep when it finally hit him. "Shit!" He looked at the clock again. This time it said 11:58 pm. He had time! He began to shake Duo awake. "Wake up, Duo!"
He got a groggy, "m 'wake." for his efforts.
"No, wake up, dammit!"
"M, damn wha?"
"Look at me. No. *Look* at me! Are you awake yet?"
"Yes, Mr. Yuy, I am awake. Now what is it?"
"I love you." Blink blink. "You woke me up to tell me 'I love you'?"
"Yes. Look..." as he pointed at the clock... "there was still time. I made it before midnight. I didn't miss the day."
With a bit of amazement and wonder (maybe a pinch of humor too) Duo repeated himself. "You woke me up to tell me 'I love you'." A soft smile broke across Duo's face as he wrapped his arms around the man he loved. He kissed him softly. "I love you too."
They fell back to sleep gently wrapped up in each other
