"We have to kill the scientists." WuFei stated. "And destroy the lab so no one else..." He paused uncertainly and looked at the figure of Duo, Now Pilot 02.
02 nodded absently, as if he were holding a conversation with someone unseen. Quatre walked up to him hesitantly.
"Are you talking to him? Can you hear him, 02?" The integrated pilot turned and looked in his direction. Quatre swallowed nervously. Those eyes seemed to pierce right through him.
"Aa...I hear him. He is very..." 02 struggled with the unfamiliar word. "Emotional." Quatre smiled.
"That he is." He closed his eyes and felt for Duo, sending out comforting thoughts. 02 looked towards him sharply.
"He feels you." Now it was 02 that paused. "What do-what do you look like? I cannot see you and he has this image of you..." The braided pilot shook his head, brow furrowing. "I find it dubious that you are an actual seraph."
Quatre's aquamarine-eyes widened. "Seraph? Oh, you mean an Angel!" He smiled sadly. "No, I'm afraid I'm not an angel." 02 nodded stiffly and walked away.
"Since it would take longer by myself, I am enlisting your aid to destroy this base. An aircraft carrying allies will be here in approximately fifteen minutes. In twenty-five minutes, the enemy vessel carrying Zechs will arrive. We must be out by then."
"How do you know all this?" Noin demanded. She didn't like this new Duo at all. She felt guilty in having helped create this 02, and possibly losing the real Duo forever. Trowa stepped over to her. Emerald eyes looked at her impassively through light brown hair.
"You've been with Zechs and you still don't know the Zero System's capabilities?" Noin bit her lip in embarrassment. "The Zero System shows the pilot glimpses of the future." He turned towards Duo.
"We're with you." He ignored the stares coming from the others. 02 nodded.
"Our weapons are stored three rooms over." He said. "So is the C-4 that I-that Duo brought to destroy the base. We will retrieve that and split into groups." He turned towards them.
"The woman and..." He rifled through the other's memories. "Chang Wu-man." Noin bristled angrily, but WuFei only chuckled sadly. The nickname so welcome he disregarded the fact that he was paired with an onna.
"I want to come with you." Trowa stepped up. Violet eyes widened, then narrowed. "You'll slow me down."
"If I do then you can leave me behind." 02 hesitated, then nodded slightly.
"Fine, Torowa. That leaves the Angel and Hi-ro. Chang's party will level the base, and Angel's will establish contact with the ally ship. Leave the scientists to me."
"No." Heero spoke up for the first time since he had attempted to kill Duo. 02 glared in his direction. "Dr. J is mine." Cobalt eyes were devoid of emotion.
The braided pilot looked inward for a moment. He walked over to Heero. "First come, first serve. Remember the mission." Heero looked up on confusion.
"Duo?" 02 blinked and shook his head.
"Let's go."
Heero and Quatre walked down the sterile corridors, searching for the communications center. They encountered enemy soldiers regularly, but since the boys were now armed, they dispatched them easily. Heero gestured to and iron-paneled door and Quatre nodded, bringing his gun to bear.
Heero broke down the door and rushed inside, Quatre covering him, despite his limp. The two guards were killed swiftly, the Perfect Soldier aiming precisely so as to not damage the equipment. He motioned Quatre over to the control panel while he guarded the door.
Quatre set the ally signal and prayed. He heard a beep confirming the connection. Thank Allah. He picked up the mike.
"Hello? This is Quatre Raberba Winner. We are on the moon base and are in dire need of assistance. Please come in." Static filled the silence.
"This is the Howard from the Peacemoth." Quatre closed his eyes in relief. "Glad to hear from you, Quatre." The voice changed.
"Quatre! Are you alright?" The blonde boy pulled up the view screen.
"Relena?" The young woman looked close to tears, though she was smiling broadly.
"I was so worried so I contacted Rashid and demanded he tell me where you went." A baritone voice cut her off.
"I'm sorry, Quatre-sama. Miss Darlian threatened to charge me and my men with illegal immigration if we did not comply with her orders." Quatre could hear his retainer smile. "And, I was worried about you myself." Quatre laughed.
"You're forgiven, my dear Rashid. You're forgiven."
"How about the others?" Relena asked. "Are they alright? Heero?" Quatre's eyes darkened.
"We are alive, Relena-sama. Just get us off this rock. Quatre out." He looked over at Heero, giving him the thumbs up. Heero nodded.
"Let's find the others."
"I can't allow you to do that." The boys turned around to face their assaulter.
"Dr. J!"
The scientist shuffled through the door, cackling madly. Quatre watched Heero's gun waver slightly.
"You can't kill me my boy. I made you. If it weren't for me you would have never met your friends." J's voice was thick with malice. "You would have never met your lover."
"I would have never had to kill!" Heero replied hoarsely. His armed dropped to his side.
Quatre Saw something glint in the Doctor's hand and reacted instinctively. He fired a shot. Dr. J crumpled to the ground, derringer falling out of limp fingers. The Arab limped over to Heero, who was staring at the bloody figure numbly.
"Come on, Heero. Let's go find Duo."
Sometime later, a figure came into the room Dr. J stared at the figure and struggled to reach his derringer. A bullet pierced his hand.
"You know," The figure said. "I never did like you."
Howard brought his gun around and fired one last shot into the scientist's brain. The Doctor did not move again.
