Queen of the World by Lasha Lee

Just a face among the crowd
Another ship upon the sea of sweet confusion
Standing on your toes
While your jewelry was swaying to the music

She walked down the street, her long earrings catching in the evening breeze and moving against her neck. She supposed she should have taken the car, but she was tired of hiding away, tired of being hidden away. This was LIFE. This was the real world; she'd made her decisions on how she wanted to live it.

Her reflection bounced back at her from a store window, and she had to smile at what she saw. Long fair hair, carefully arranged into a careless fall of curls, brushed against her shoulders. The dark red dress hugged her body like a second skin, revealing just enough to tantalize, and not enough to scandalize.

You're a rose among the reeds
And you're the only one I'll ever need
And when I look into your eyes
I know that you will

Although she had not lived with her parents since she had been very young, and still was a little uncomfortable with her true surname, the Peacecraft name still radiated strong with her, strong enough that wherever she went, she went at her very best. She was a lady, darn it, and she wasn't going to pretend to be anything but a lady.

Take me to a place I never go
You send me kisses made of gold
I'll place a crown upon your curls
All hail the queen of the world

She was Queen of the World

Just an ordinary girl
With an ordinary life that you have chosen
But you're the fire in the snow
Though I believe that I'm the only one who knows it

And she was on her way to meet with her King. So much they'd been through to reach this point. Words they didn't mean, tears, anger, laughter. He wasn't the best at saying "I love you" but when he held her tight and looked into her eyes, there was never a doubt in her mind. She had such terrible nightmares at times, and now there was someone to soothe her until they want away.

You never liked to sleep alone
You left some lipstick on the telephone
And when I look into your eyes
I know that you will

She pulled out her cell phone, and dialed his number quickly. "Hey, honey, it's me. I'm running a bit late, but I'll be there." She listened for a minute, and then laughed. "Yes, I'm wearing the red dress.

Take me to a place I never go
You send me kisses made of gold
I'll place a crown upon your curls
All hail the queen of the world

Being a Queen wasn't the easiest thing to handle. There were those who still stared at her with malice in their eyes, denying her very right to even exist. But with her King's help, she knew she could rise above anything, any attack, any barbs. He made her whole.

Take me to a place I never go
You send me kisses made of gold

Heero was counting the seconds until he heard the doorbell ring, and then jumped to his feet. He'd been waiting for this moment the entire day, waiting for his Queen to arrive. He opened the door.

There stood the love of his life, born Milliardo Peacecraft, raised Zechs Marquis, now known as Millie Marquis. She was resplendent in her red dress and pumps, and Heero smiled.
"I thought you'd never get here."

Take me to a place I never go
You send me kisses made of gold
I'll place a crown upon your curls
All hail the queen of the world
