Rating: PG-13
Pairings: 1 + 3
Warnings: None really. Mild language. Almost citrus.
Feedback: C&C
Notes: This kind of weaves itself into the series of stories started out with me writing them then DaMoyre took them to the Games series. This story follows the story Penalty which is an alternate story that is part of DaMoyre's Games saga. But I gave it a Nocturnal title though.
Dedicated to DaMoyre who said I should post this!

The mission was completed. Barely. Trowa had a tougher time infiltrating the OZ base than he thought he would have. Someone must have tipped them off because security was almost impenetrable. Almost. As he dragged into the house where the others were with the information burned on a mini-disc, he headed off towards his room. The information gained could wait until morning.
Trowa couldn't remember the last time he was this tired. He wanted to take a shower, but he knew he could barely keep his eyes open. He was working on autopilot as his hand reached for the doorknob. To Heero's room.
The doorknob was half turned by him before he realized his error. It was no longer their room together. He had moved out weeks ago after that last bout of fun and games with Duo, made Trowa feel that his life with Heero had to stop. As quietly as he could, he moved the knob back to its original position, then walked to his own room.
Heero heard when Trowa had arrived. He stayed attuned to all of the pilots, knowing when they came and went. It was just common sense to know where everyone was at all times.
He could tell by the shuffle of the other's feet that he must be exhausted. He wanted to go out to see for himself, but their relationship was strained at best. Not that the others noticed. It wasn't like he and Trowa had thrown histrionics in the mix, at least not publicly. Duo probably figured it out, but he had been occupied with Wufei of late. Discussions with Trowa had consisted mostly of missions and their gundams. Any talk of things more personal was usually quickly tabled by one or the other.
When the doorknob to his room started to turn, Heero held his breath. 'Was he going to come in? Come back into my life?'
The knob stopped turning and Heero felt his heart sink. 'Don't think Trowa, just come in!' he mentally pleaded to the boy outside his door. The knob returned to it's previous position, and Heero could hear the shuffling of feet away from the door. 'Damn!'
Trowa stumbled into his bedroom, stripping along the way. He tossed the sweater and jeans into a junky corner. When Trowa had initially moved in with Heero this room became a storage room. It still was a storage room in some ways, so he negotiated around parts and boxes to reach the bed.
Even in this near somnabulent state, he crawled over to 'his' side on the bed, leaving a huge space to his left. Before he could pull the covers over himself, he was asleep.
Heero waited ten minutes before checking on Trowa. He guessed the boy would be asleep by then judging on the slowness of the shuffle away from his door. He just wanted to make sure the shuffle was from weariness and not injury.
He walked silently to the far room at the end of the hall. He quietly turned the knob and entered. The room was still bright because Trowa had forgotten to turn off the light.
Trowa was lying on his stomach, with one arm reaching over to the empty space on the bed. Heero carefully maneuvered around the clutter towards the bed. He wanted to cover Trowa so he wouldn't catch cold, he told himself. However once he reached the bed, he eased himself down to carefully sit on the bed.
Heero found his hands had a mind of their own as the gently caressed Trowa's skin on his shoulders and back. Trowa sighed audibly and sunk deeper into sleep.
The sigh stopped Heero's movements before he removed his hand from the sleeping boy's back, only to lightly curl the hand into thick auburn hair. 'I've missed this,' Heero thought to himself as he placed a light kiss on Trowa's shoulder. 'I'd better go before I do something to make things worse.'
Trowa wondered how his dream moved from being about himself as a kid surrounded by death to having Heero making love to him. He could almost swear he could smell Heero and his body reacted accordingly. He was hard and Heero was kissing his neck and back. He let out a moan enjoying the feeling that felt very real. As quickly as he felt the warmth of Heero's body it was suddenly gone.
"Heero?" he mumbled while still asleep.
Heero froze. He stared intently at Trowa to see if he was awake. Emerald green eyes blinked open but were unfocused. Heero knew the other was still asleep.
Trowa mumbled, "Come to bed."
Heero seriously considered the request. It would be wonderful to have Trowa back in his arms again. But this wasn't the way. "I'll come to bed later, Trowa. I have things to do first."
Trowa nodded slowly. "Okay. Too tired for fun anyway," he slurred as he eyes started to close again.
Heero covered Trowa up with the sheet and comforter. Then he sat and watched his former lover sleep for a while before returning to his room.
Trowa had placed his ceramic coffee mug in the coffeemaker to get the first of the morning brew, not waiting for the carafe to fill.
Heero walked in the kitchen and saw him. "Good morning," Heero said.
Trowa looked up and saw Heero. He felt his stomach flip like it always did when he was near Heero. Today he felt different also. It was a nagging feeling... like ...
"Did we have a conversation last night?" Trowa asked.
Heero debated whether to tell the truth or not. He had never lied in the past so there was no point in starting now.
"Sort of," Heero replied.
"What did I say to you? I did talk to you right?" Trowa asked trying to piece together some blank spots.
Heero blushed briefly. A hint of a smile appeared. "You asked me to come to bed."
Trowa's eyes widened and he barely remembered to removed his cup from the coffeemaker before it overflowed. "I did what?" he asked indignant, his face flushing.
"You heard me," Heero allowed himself the smile.
"What did you say?" Trowa asked not looking at the other, but concentrating on putting the coffee carafe back in its place in the coffeemaker.
"I said maybe later. I knew you didn't mean it and getting into an argument would have woke you up," Heero explained. "So I pulled up your covers and left you to go back to sleep."
"Ah," Trowa replied. "Umm... thanks?"
"Did you want me to stay?" Heero decided to risk the question.
Trowa looked up at him startled. "I don't know," he said. "Maybe on some subconscious level?"
Heero smiled. "Subconsciously is good enough for me."
"Heero..."
"Trowa. You and I have never kept things from each other in the past. There's no reason to start now. I've missed you. Leaving your room last night was one of the toughest things I've ever done."
"Heero," Trowa sighed. "Just because my subconscious wants you back, doesn't mean the rest of me is ready to do it."
"True," Heero said. "But it's a start."
