Duo Maxwell ran into the room he shared with Heero Yuy with excitement. "It finally came!"
"What came?" Heero asked disinterested.
"My Deathscythe Hell model kit!"
"Nani?"
"Come on, with the war being over and us gundam pilots being heroes to the world and space, it's only natural that some corporation would want to make models of our gundams," Duo replied happily. "I was going to start off with just Deathscythe, but D-Hell was just so much cooler in real life, I had to get the kit. And if this works out well, guess what you'll be getting for your birthday this year?"
"Shouldn't you just concentrate on your kit?" Heero asked hoping the chattering boy would quiet down.
"Okay, Okay, I can take a hint!" Duo smiled as he plopped down at the desk, moving Heero's laptop over. "This is going to be so cool!" Then he opened the box.
"Holy crap! Look at all these MICROSCOPIC pieces! What the hell?" He reached for the instructions that were also written in microscopic Japanese, although he thought the artist rendering of his face did him justice. "Heero, I don't know if I can do this. Look at these pieces," he said as he held up sheets upon sheets of plastic parts.
"Just read the instructions," Heero said before the instruction sheet flew at his head. He picked up the sheet and squinted at the instructions. "Hey this drawing of you makes you look like a baka," he laughed. "Okay ignore the actual written instructions, just follow the picture diagrams," he said as he tossed the instructions back to Duo.
"Okay, just let me get a magnifying glass," he said. "Take part no. 20 & 21 from sheet A2 and put them together with part P.C.E and P.C.I from sheet PC-110." Much squinting at the numbered pieces on the numbered sheets brought success. In five minutes, he had constructed the legs.
"Hey Heero, this is pretty easy, once you get use to the numbering scheme on some of these sheets," Duo beamed.
"Hn."
In ninety minutes, Deathscythe Hell was almost completed. "And now the pièce de resistance, the wings!" Duo said aloud. He heard the gratifying snap of wing being attached to the model's body. "Yes!" He placed the four bat-like wings in their assigned areas. "Heero! Check this out!" He walked over to the chair Heero was sitting at, holding his completed model.
Suddenly two of the wings fell off. "What? Dammit!" Duo put the two wings back on only to watch part of the armored shield fall off. "Ack!"
Heero tried not to laugh at the frustration of Duo. "Why isn't it as colorful looking as on the box?"
"Oh, because I didn't put the decals on. I guess I'll do that while I try to figure out why the wings keep falling off."
First decal was the green eyes that had to go on D-Hell's head. In order to put that on, Duo had to take the helmet off to put the tiny sticker on it. Trying to pry the helmet off produced a sickly snap sound. Sure enough part of the locking piece was now broken. He put the sticker on and snapped the helmet back. It held, but when he put the head back on the body it no longer stayed upright. The head now tilted to the left. And the golden horn on top kept popping off.
"Dammmmmiiiitttt!" The other decals were easier. Especially the ones on the wings that still kept falling off even though he heard the wings snap in place.
Duo now holding the model as if it was as fragile as a newborn kitten slowly walked toward Heero. "Here it is in all its glory with the decals. Ouch! What's that?" he said as his bare foot stepped on something pointy and plastic like. It was the horn that went to Deathscythe's helmet. "Aargh! What crap!"
"I guess the corporations don't think so highly of us," Heero said suppressing a smile.
"Heero, guess what you WON'T be getting for your birthday this year?!"
