The Angel Is Near

First Book of 'The Angel Is Near' Arc: Part 2

-Part 2-

"Hmmm..." the angel with blue-silver eyes murmured as he watched from his cloudy perch. He placed his foot on the ledge, resting his arm atop. A smirk crossed his face as he saw two winged figures tuck their wings and dive toward the Earth below. "Angels decending to Earth... this capture shall prove interesting..."

"Oh, really?" a voice said from behind him.

Turning to look at the intruder. "Hn. What brings you out of Heaven, Nathan?"

"Same as you, I assume, Asahel..." replied the angel with crystalline-silver eyes.

"Hn, you assume too much..." Asahel grumbled, his voice carrying irritation.

"Oh?" Nathan said, lifting an eloquent eyebrow, silvery eyes glittering with mirth.

"Hn. So He sent you?" Asahel asked him. "Why does He believe that we'll need so many?"

Nathan shrugged, "He may resist..." Nathan frowned, "He may not want to come back to Heaven after finding so many on the Earth... and he may not remember..." his voice carried all the sadness he felt at that thought.

Asahel looked at him, a curious glance. "Why would anyone choose not to come back? This is Heaven we're talking about?"

Nathan sighed, "Yes, but do you not remember why he is on the Earth in the first place?"

"Hn."

"I see... Well," Nathan began retelling the tale of old.

The small angel sat upon his Heavenly perch, his wings folded, sunning himself. He looked around the Heavens, searching for anyone around. No one. He smirked, he was alone... In one lithe movement he was on his feet, wings slightly spread. He walked over to the edge of the 'cloud', smiling to himself.

'No one here,' the angel thought to himself, carefully shielding the thought from anyone and everyone, 'Time to fly!'

With this he jumped from the landing. Arching so he directed himself in a dive toward the Earth, he folded his wings in to acquire more speed. The wind blew his bangs about his face and he smiled at the feel of freedom. As he came closer to the Earth, he extended his wings, slowing his decent.

He landed, lightfooted, on the soft dirt of the Earth. His smile of pleasure was bright enough to put the sun to shame. He was on Earth... something forbidden his rank. He knew he was disobeying the will of God, but for this he'd give his wings.

Hiding his wings, he began to explore the Earth that God had spend so much time to create. It was beautiful... worthy of being a work of God and the angel knew this. How he'd longed to see it up close and personal for ages...

He walked up a path he found, looking about him in wonderment. "Beautiful..." he marveled.

As he wandered, he came across a small town. It was quaint, smelling of fresh baked bread. How he knew that it was bread was beyond him... it just was. It had a homely feel and he found himself drawn to its serenity.

He wandered through its streets, gazing in open amazement at the works that God had given them. 'He's never done anything like this for us...' he thought, a pout on his face.

"Are you lost?" a small boy asked him. Well, the boy wasn't too small. About his size, but he was an adolescent human.

"No," the angel replied, using his vocal cords for the first time.

The blue eyed boy looked at him doubtfully. "You aren't from around here," he stated, "Do you need a place to stay, miss?"

'Miss?' Wasn't that used in conjunction with the female of this species? "Ummm..." the angel stuttered.

"It's a simple question... it'll be dark soon, do you have somewhere to go, or would you like to stay at my house?"

"I... have no where... to stay..." the angel said.

"Then, I entreaty, stay at my house with me tonight..." the boy's piercing blue eyes left him no option, and the angel nodded his ascent. "What's your name?"

"I am called Ezra..." the angel said, looking at his feet... He didn't know why saying his name made him nervous, but it did. He knew, too, if he continued to look into those blue depths that he would fall helplessly into them and never return.

"That's a nice name... I am Aaron..." the boy called Aaron said, extending his hand in greeting. "Let us get to know one another?"

Ezra nodded, looking up he smiled at Aaron, "Yes, let us..." he didn't know why he felt he wanted to know more about the beautiful human male, but he did. He knew that the boy was open and honest, he could feel that much, but this feeling that drew the angel to the boy was something new to Ezra. It made him giddy and dizzy, but at the same time it made something deep in him stir [1].

Aaron smiled at him as he placed his hand in the boy's. Aaron gently tugged, pulling the angel along behind him. Ezra watched the boy as he was led. He noted all he could. The boy was not tall, about 7 spans tall [2]. Short dark brown hair adorned his head, looking perpetually windswept. He couldn't weight more than 2 talents, at most [3]. 'His face is lovely,' the angel thought, 'He's just beautiful...'

Aaron spoke, startling the angel from his thoughts. "Would you tell me about yourself?"

Ezra was shocked. How could he tell this mortal what he was? The boy would scream blasphemy, for such a tale was not to be told lightly. Ezra opted for a small fabrication. Not a lie, but a tale...

"Oh, I'm just a wanderer. I like to roam, look at the beautiful creations of God." Nope, not a lie, just a partial truth. But wasn't that just like a lie? No, what needn't be known, needn't be told. "I... I am not a girl, as you earlier thought."

"So? You are in need of a domicile, so I shall provide one," Aaron smirked at him and Ezra got the impression that this was all for the better... and he was proven correct, "Besides, I like boys better..."

"Oh... really?" Ezra was blushing and he tried to hide it... He'd never known you could feel... lust? Of course, he'd never been on Earth, nor meet an angel who evoked this kind of feeling.

"Yes... do you feel it too?" Aaron's face was serious. "Do you feel the connection?"

Ezra nodded. Connection... then not lust, but... love. And love that connected beings was supposedly eternal love. God would have Loki fry him for sure. He had to get away, lest this boy be caught in the imminent battle. Ezra struggled to get free of Aaron's grasp. Suddenly, he felt lips on his, soft and sweet. Without knowing it he melted into the kiss, mind pleasantly fuzzed.

Before he knew it, the angels had decended upon them. They pulled the angel from his love, slamming him to the wall.

"Ezra, you have disobeyed God," the tall one said to him. "I shall invoke God's wrath if you do not come with us..."

"Loki, that is not needed, he has a choice," a shorter angel said, placing a hand on Loki's elbow. "Your choice, Ezra, is to either return to Heaven now and never come back to Earth, or to stay here... of course that is after punishment... I cannot forestall that, little one." The blond angel's eyes conveyed his sadness at having to be the bearer of bad news.

Ezra looked at Aaron, "I... I'll stay... on Earth..." he said, slumping against Loki's strong arms. "I await my punishment."

"So you see, he was stripped of his wings and sent to Earth... to be reincarnated over and over again as his punishment... whether he found his love again was up to God's benevolent nature..." Nathan finished, a sad look in his eyes.

"Hn. So why are we to retrieve him then?" Asahel asked.

Nathan shrugged, "God said to."

"Aa." He looked down from their perch, his blue-silver eyes glittering, "The angel is near."
