Category/Rating: Series / PG
Pairings: 1x2/2x1
Author/Contact: Asuka

Feedback: Very much appreciated
Warnings: Yaoi, AU, Sap, Mild Angst
Notes: Well after over two years of neglecting this fic, I now hopefully have found a little direction of where I want to take it. I've finally figured out a rough outline for it - 9 parts total, but I'm trying to keep them as simple as possible. Titles for each part are very rough Gaelic - I tried to get the closest word to the English as possible. I'm not sure how satisfied I am with this part - I'm still a little rusty from not ficcing in a year, so it's gonna be subject to change and revisions. Hope everyone enjoys, but be forewarned - this has not been betaed!!

Bringing Down the Moon by Asuka

Part Two -- Coinnich::Introductions

Heero didn't know what to do. There he was, out on the beach with a naked - albeit, beautiful - man standing in front of him...who had mysteriously come from the ocean. He managed to find his voice again: "Who are you?"

The creature giggled slightly. It was a soft, shy kind of laugh, and its eyes glittered with it. "I am the person you have waited for... called for."

"'Waited'? 'Called for'?" Heero was confused - to the most he knew, he hadn't done either. How could he have waited or called for a perfect *stranger*? Not to mention, who knew if the man in front of him was even *human*? Heero shook his head. It had been a long day, and he wanted answers. "How did you get here? Where did you come from?"

"You saw. There's no need for an explanation," it said, matter-of-factly.

"Well then, what are you? Are you even human?"

The creature chuckled gently, amused by the man's bewilderment. "You could say that. I'm half. Both you and I know no mortal human can live in the sea."

"So, if you're not human, what are you, then?"

"We're known as selkies to the human world."

"Selkies?"

"That's right. A half human and seal hybrid, born to a woman as a result from one night of ecstasy with some handsome enchanted drifter she met on the shores. Poor lass was probably unaware she was sleeping with a seal able to shed its skin. We're thought to be only myth - a faerie tale. But as you can see, it's a common misconception."

"Seal?" Heero's head was spinning. "But if you're half seal, how do you look like a regular person? Shouldn't you have some...traits of a seal?"

The selkie pointed towards the sky. "Because of that."

He followed the selkie's direction. "The moon...?"

"Not just any moon. The full moon. Ans it just so happens that it's the Midsummer Moon."

"I see...so then...why did you come to me?"

The creature sighed, closing his eyes and bowing his head into his hand. He scratched at his bangs before flipping them back. "I told you; you called me."

"But how?"

He opened one eye and looked directly into Heero's. "I felt your tears."

Heero instinctively reached his hand up to his cheek, brushing his fingers down to his chin. It was still slightly moist. Had he cried that much? "Do you have a name?"

The selkie tucked back a lock of his sea-damp hair behind his ear. "Not of the human language, no." He eyed the lock of hair, absently twirling it around his lithe fingers before dropping it and returning Heero's stare. "Would you like to give me one? One that you could call me?"

Heero thought for a moment, continuing to stare at the wondrous sight before him. The breeze ruffled at the tails of his shirt, also making the selkie's hair billow. It was long - past his hips and a rich chestnut color. He noticed that the creature's eyes matched the same pale violet of the dusky sky. Heero turned, focusing his gaze on the undulating waves of the foamy teal ocean. He bent down, picking up a small rock and turning it in his hands, feeling its texture and smooth shape. "How's...'Duo,' since you are two - both human and seal?" He chucked the rock at the water and watched as it skipped the waves before submerging.

"'Duo'..." the creaturee mused. He fidgeted with the sealskin still in his grasp. "It works for me. 'Duo'..." He tried the pronunciation again, moving his lips to the consonant and rolling the vowels off his tongue.

Heero walked back from the shore, plopping his self on a dry mound of sand. "So what happens now?" He began to draw shapes in the sand, doodling and smoothing them out over and over.

"I will stay with you."

"What?" His finger stopped in a nid-arc. The remark caught Heero off-guard. "But..."

"I only have the length of when the moon still hangs in the sky. Then I will have to return."

Heero pondered Duo's remark. /'When the moon still hands in the sky'... Until the new moon?/
