A Fuyuka story
"Dad, the teddy bear sprung a leak."
Heero looked at the teddy bear that Fuyuka was holding. One of the seams had burst and a little bit of the stuffing was hanging out. "Let me see if I can fix the bear." Heero took out some needle and thread to repair it.
"Third time this month, Fu. You play pretty rough," said Duo, smiling as Heero "healed" the bear.
"I just want to take him everywhere," said Fuyuka. This was quite true as she took him to school, to her bed and to her friends' houses.
"Well, we'll try to make him stronger," said Heero. He tied the thread and handed the bear back to her.
"Dad, the next door neighbor said that her doggy had puppies. Can we have one?"
"The dog is a Rottweiler," said Heero, frowning. "Those dogs can grow up to 130 pounds and have a very strong herding instinct. It's too dangerous." Images of the huge dog knocking and running her down made him clench his fists reflexively.
"But Dad... "
Duo sighed then said, "Fuyuka, you just knocked the stuffing out of your teddy bear. If you were to squeeze the doggy too hard, the stuffing would come right out." Mind you, he thought, I don't think the stuffing will be coming from the dog. "It would make dad and daddy really sad." This statement will be ten times as true if you replace the 's' in sad with an 'm' thought Duo.
"I'll be careful."
"I don't think Mulan would like to be chased by the dog and besides, dogs make lots of poop." Oh, God, I can't believe I used the word 'poop,' thought Duo. "You would have to clean up all the grumpies. I'm agreeing with dad on this one."
Fuyuka pouted then stomped away.
"Looks like she's mad," said Duo.
"I'd rather have her mad than hurt."
"Do you think we should get her a little pet? Something she can handle with a little help."
"Like what?"
"How about a Guinea pig?"
"It won't hurt her will it?"
"Heero!"
