Candlelight Dinner by Willow

I never thought Heero Yuy was the romantic type. Hell, as far as I knew he wasn't... It was a real surprise that my koi pulled on me.

I came home from work in a terrible mood, I had looked for Heero, but Une had told he he'd left early... So I was a little pissy... I had a right to be! My lover had abandoned me to work all by myself with Wu-man... while Wu was in a justice ranting mood... (Seems he'd been pulled over that morning for going 5 miles an hour over the speed limit).

Well, I got home, hung up my Preventer's jacket and began to walk into the living room... I didn't stop, nope... I was knocked on my ass by a huge immovable object; namely Heero.

"Daijoubu?" he asked.

I was about to rant at him when I smelled something delicious... You know me and my love of food, I instantly switched from pissy to 'gonna gobble down the whole house.' Have I mentioned that my thoughts can be read on my face? Well, they can be... and Heero saw exactly what I was thinking and smiled.

Sly one, my lover. He reached down and helped me to my feet, then hugged me and planted a kiss on my lips before moving to blindfold me. I chuckled and asked him something about being a little kinky... of course, he just grunted and made sure I couldn't see...

Then I was being led... finally he plopped me down in a seat and removed the blindfold. I am pretty sure my jaw was on the floor because there before me was a home -- Heero-cooked meal set on the little table illuminated by a single candle.

Talk about romantic. He smirked at me then waltzed --yes, Heero Yuy waltzed -- over to my ancient record player and put on some Cole Porter -- yes, the song you're thinking [1] -- then waltzed back to the table and sat down across from me.

We were both quiet through out dinner, with the exception of my random compliment on this dish or that. After it was finished he once again did the unexpected...

He rose from his chair, walked around the table, clasped my hand with one of his, reached in his pocket and pulled out a small box, then kneeled and looked me in the eye. I know tears were streaming down my face and a wide grin was splitting my face from ear to ear... and when I heard those words, the words I'd thought I'd never ever hear...

"Duo, will you marry me?"

My heart stopped... the restarted, pounding so fast I thought it'd break through my ribs and bounce away... "Yes!" I cried, throwing myself into his arms. He pulled back only long enough to slip the ring on my finger -- it was a beautifully simple band, silver with a single small sapphire -- then we were kissing and our hands were roaming... just like the first time we'd found one another... all emotion.

And now I stand here, about to walk down the isle to wed my love... I cast a glance at Relena for support. She grins and gives me a thumbs up. It surprised me that she was so supportive, given that she was madly in love with Heero at one point... but she practically demanded to be my maid of honor and funded the reception and helped choose the bride's maids' -- or is it groom's maids? whatever -- clothes.

Heero's made me the happiest person in the world... And it all started with a candlelight dinner.

End.

Author's notes:
[1] 'Let's Do It' or 'Let's Fall In Love' whatever it's called... you know? "Heavy hippopotami do it! Let's do it! Let's fall in love!" ::cackles:: I had it stuck in my head.
[2] Originally it was supposed to end with a catchy thing about 'the only bad thing about a candlelight dinner is you cannot see what you're eating' or something like that... but of course, it did not have that... ^_^ Ah well... ^_^ I like the new ending better.
[3] Only the fact of a candlelight dinner was inspired by the Simpsons... nothing more.
