Silly songfic. Oh, before I forget. "always on my mind" is sung by Willie Nelson. There's also a pop version by the Pet Shop Boys.
"It's a funny about marriage that afterwards, the romance just plummets," said Noin, sighing. She was at her usual table with Sally. Wufei usually spent his lunch hour meditating in the garden built on the top floor while Zechs either ended up getting a lunch hour call from his sister or eating with the other guys. "We haven't gone anywhere really nice in a month."
Sally laughed. "Oh, Noin, if you think you've got it bad, how about Wufei saying, ‘Here are your flowers, onna!' But at least the flowers are nice."
"What kind of stuff are you talking about?" Duo said, passing by.
Sally rolled her eyes. "Girl talk, Duo, you wouldn't understand at all."
"Well, you were talking about romance? I get my dose of romance twice a day."
It was apparent on Noin's and Sally's face what they thought about that statement.
"Yappari, you know nothing about what we're talking about," said Noin.
"Oi, oi. I'm just playing with you. But I think romance is overrated. That's the way we guys are."
"I guess that men and women are fundamentally different, huh," sighed Sally. However later that night, Duo thought about that exchange as he cooked the coq au vin and roasted potatoes for dinner.
"Duo, is something bothering you?" said Heero.
"Nothing, really. I was just thinking about what Noin and Sally were saying."
"What?"
"Just that they were complaining that Zechs and Wufei weren't romantic anymore. I told them that guys like us just aren't romantic."
Heero blinked. "Are you saying that I'm not romantic?"
"Well, yeah. I'm not complaining. I'm not romantic, either."
"Hn."
Later, however, he noticed Heero playing with his dinner. "You're not angry about what I said are you?"
"I'm not angry."
"Just forget I said it, okay."
"But it does bother you."
"Ah... I was just wondering what it is about romantic gestures that they are so worked up about... You and I... We didn't fall in love like everyone else. It's like everyone else fell in love by courting each other with flowers and dating... It seemed like we skipped all that... I know that Noin actually dated Zechs during their Academy years and Wufei and Sally started dating after they ended up at the Preventers. Maybe... never mind. I'm just being dumb."
It was a quiet evening.
Duo woke up to find Heero gone. Where did he go? thought Duo. He looked at the chair where Heero always laid out his clothes for the next day and found it empty. He looked in the kitchen, then the living room. He looked near the door to find Heero's pair of shoes gone. He didn't just leave just because... Then he shook his head... Maybe it's a mission, yeah, a mission that's top secret. Still... He got dressed and noticed that Heero had taken his laptop and that the car was gone from the garage, leaving the other car.
He walked through the parking lot and didn't see Heero's car. He's not here... What's wrong with that guy, he thought.
He asked everyone working in the office if they'd heard from him. Everyone shook their head.
"Sally, have you seen Heero?"
"No, why?" She seemed to be genuinely surprised at the question.
"I just thought... " So, it wasn't a secret mission of some sort and he'd at least leave a note, he thought. I'm starting to get worried.
Duo sat at his Preventer's desk, looking a little down. Then the office PA system clicked on and a voice began to sing:

And maybe I didn't treat you

"GYAAH! MY EARS ARE BLEEDING!" screamed Wufei, who vigorously clamped both hands over his ears.
"Heero's singing a Willie Nelson song?" said Quatre, sweatdropping.
Zechs suddenly graps his head and yells, "EPYON FLASHBACKS!"
The somewhat flat nasal voice went on to sing,

Cornflakes tumbled from Noin's lips back into the bowl and Sally put her head down to keep from laughing openly. Trowa just went, "...!!!!"
Duo just smiled the happiest smile in the universe, full of relief...

The door opened and Heero sang this stanza as he walked toward Duo's desk as he held a very strange looking bouquet.

With that, he handed Duo the bouquet.
Duo said, "These are chocolate flowers and the stems are... "
"Made of pocky, yes."
"Heero, this was lovely... "
"Hn."
"But don't ever sing a Willie Nelson song again."
"Hai."
"And don't you dare disappear again without telling me that you're going!"
He wrapped his arms around Duo and said, "I'll make it up to you later... " They kiss then proceed to eat a chocolate pocky flower.
Meanwhile, Noin was cradling Zech's head as he whimpered about Zero System flashbacks while Sally rubbed Wufei's temples while extorting all sorts of things out of him by threatening to play Heero's singing over and over again.
