Title: Bringing Down the Moon, part 1/?
Author: Asuka
Feedback: YES!!
Warnings: Yaoi, AU, Sap, Mild Angst
Disclaimers: Standard disclaimers apply...
Notes: This one's kinda like a semi-faery tale... Semi 'cause I'm using a mythical creature in it, but it doesn't really go along with any particular faery tale. I've always been enchanted by tales of the Selkie (seals that can shed their skin revealing a human form), so I decided to incorperate them into a fic... I know the lovely Katsu No Miko wrote a fic involving them ("The Ocean Songfic Trilogy", I do believe... an absolutely beautiful fic - if you haven't read it, I highly recommend!), but hers didn't have them as the main focus... I'm not trying to steal any of her ideas or anything, honestly, demo...I really wanted to write a fic with 'em, and this just popped up. Gomen for any offense!! And a huge major thankies to Lizard-neechan for betaing!!

Bringing Down the Moon by Asuka

Part One -- Còmhdhail::Meeting

Twin cobalt eyes stared vacantly past the rippling waves of the ocean. The sun was setting, a brilliant salmon sky preparing to yield itself to the oncoming darkness looming overhead. All around it was silent, save for the cries of the gulls and the sound of the sea rolling against the shore. The figure, a man who appeared to be well into his early twenties, stood alone on the beach, the clear water lapping over his feet. His pants were soaking wet from the crashing of the waves onto the shore, but he couldn't care less. He was numb, his body dulled of any of the senses that were usually so acute.

The cause? A broken heart... His companion of nearly five years had broken their engagement apart, claiming she was sorry, but fell for another. His best friend, no less. And while he refused to give in to the tears collecting at the corners of his eyes, it seemed that nature was against him. A salty ocean breeze blew against him, irritating his eyes further until those crystal beads spilled forth. And while his mind repeatedly told him it was only because of the wind, he knew better than to fool himself. He had tried to play it off nonchalauntly - acting as if the failed engagement wasn't anything major to him, and that he was happy for the new-found couple. But inside it was killing him, slowly ripping him apart. He thought she was the love of his life, but as it turned out, he had guessed wrong. And now, those forbidden drops streaked across his cheeks, falling into the shallow water below.

/1...2...3.../ he counted idly as his tears plittered into the sea, - seven total[1] - watching as they were carried back into the vast liquid abyss. He wiped the streams from his face and turned. The breeze continued to play with the untucked blouse and loosened tie he wore, gently messing his already tousled chocolate brown hair.

It was Midsummer's Night,[2], the same day that he and his beloved met; the same day the very two seperated. /How coincidental.../ he mused to himself. He started to leave from the ocean front, - his moment of self-pitying was finished - lightly kicking the peached colored sand with his stride.

He paced himself slowly, reveling in the wonders around him. He breathed in deeply the fresh air, listened to the flaps of the birds, the soft rythmic hum of the waters behind him. The beach had always been one of his favorite spots to seclude himself. It was a place where you could truly enjoy the forever changing sights around you, almost as if you were actually a part of it instead of some random bystander.

He almost picked up his pace as he noted the sky had grown into night, hints of stars peeking out with the waxing moon hanging over. Almost. He barely heard the faint splash behind him, disrupting the smooth melody of the ocean. He instantly whirled around, his FBI skills reflexively kicking in, and was instantly taken aback.

His unsuspecting eyes were greeted by the sight of a figure - definitely humanoid in shape. From what he could see, it was a man. He wore nothing, except for the animal skin he clutched in his hands, barely covering his nakedness. He had long hair that hung like a silk curtain down his back. His alabaster skin was unblemished; his body lanky yet firm with muscle. Violet orbs sparkled, enchanting whoever laid eyes upon him. In a word, he was beautiful. The moon illuminated his wet skin, making it look as if he had a silver aura around him. If there was anytime for Heero to question his sexuality, it now was definitely the time...

He found himself at a loss for words in front of this wonderous creature. It smiled, tentatively approaching the awe-stricken man.

"Who...who are you?"

The creature only smiled.

End Part 1

Notes:

1. According to legend, to summon a selkie, you were to cry 7 tears into the ocean. At least, for women, but... let's just pretend it works for men, too!

2. This is one of the days selkies were thought to come out of the ocean.

Uhm~ that's it for now! Sorry it was kinda short... I'm stuck for ideas right about now. Any suggestions? I know exactly how I want it to end, but getting there is another story... -_-*
