An Understanding by tkmaxwell777

He stood outside on the balcony, wishing he knew what to do. The war was over... finally. It had seemed a year before like that simple statement had been true, but he somehow knew the reality of it this time. There was no need for the Perfect Soldier any longer... and no need for Heero Yuy. That thought made him wonder if he would ever find his place in peace. Where would he go now? What would he do with a life that was suddenly completely his? He'd fought once again with no thoughts of the future, just trying to complete the mission to save Relena once more and keep more people from having to die needlessly; he himself was a casualty whose wound no one else could see.

For the past year, before the fighting had begun again, he had wandered aimlessly, still closed off, still alone. Even though he had kept in contact with the others, he had never visited them or even called them, only sending emails to let them know he was still living; or at least, still alive. He didn't want to go back to that existence again, not knowing the security of being wanted, not feeling the warmth of someone, anyone, to keep him from the cold, barren thoughts he harbored inside. He didn't know what to do. His thoughts seemed to overwhelm him, and he was so lost in contemplation that he didn't hear a figure approaching him until he was standing beside him; he was proud that he didn't jump at the other's voice.

"Whatcha doin' out here, Heero? The party's inside, man."

Heero continued to look out at the evening sky, the stars sparkling down on him, offering their dim light. "I really don't feel like a party right now, Duo. I just need..." He started to say 'to be alone', but knew it would be a lie if he did. "I just need to leave," was what he finally came up with.

The other boy narrowed his eyes at him. Duo Maxwell had sensed something was wrong with the boy he considered his best friend and had been searching for him for a half hour, almost desperate to find him. Whether Heero knew it or not, Duo understood at least a little of what the former Wing pilot was feeling. The same thing had happened at the end of the first war. Duo had tried to get Heero to open up to him, to let himself feel all of the things Duo knew the other boy was repressing; Heero had left instead. To have Heero try to push him away this time pissed the former Deathscythe pilot off royally.

"The hell you do! Listen, buddy, the LAST thing you need right now is to run away. I know how you're feeling. That's why I'm here, forcing myself to be around everyone, so I don't give into all of the crazy ideas that are going through my head. Even though peace is a good thing, it's damn depressing to not be needed anymore as a soldier. Shit, Heero, we just blew up our Gundams two days ago! It's like a piece of my heart was blown up with him. Knowing I'll never sit in his cockpit again, feel the rush of the engines at take off, swing my scythe in battle..." Duo's eyes grew misty just thinking about it.

Heero turned to look at him, surprised by Duo's insight, yet knowing it wasn't the same for the braided pilot as it was for him. "You have somewhere to go, Duo. Hilde is waiting for you. I have no one and no place to call home."

Duo looked at him dumbfounded. Heero's voice had the most defeated tone he'd ever heard from the other boy. His face softened as he realized just how alone Heero felt. "You always have a place with me, you baka. I told you last time that my apartment was big enough for the both of us, but you just had to be stubborn about it. Will you quit being such a pain in the ass for once and just come home with me?"

"Why would you ever want me to be with you?" Heero asked, his voice sharp with anger... anger at being a weapon that was no longer needed, unable to even allow himself the small comfort of friendship that Duo Maxwell had always offered him. "I'm not like you, Duo! I can't go out and party, I can't be sociable, and I sure as hell can't make friends! Why would you want someone like me around when all I'll do is remind you of the war every time you look at me?"

Duo placed his hands on Heero's shoulders. Looking deep into intense blue eyes, he could see the fear there. "Because you are my best friend, and nothing you ever do will make me stop caring about you. Heero, I like being around you. I think you are an interesting person. Just because you're not like me doesn't mean there's something wrong with you. Everyone is different. Look at Quatre and Trowa! Who would have ever thought those two would be so good for each other, but they love each other, and their differences somehow have become their strengths. You and I are different too, but that doesn't mean that we can't understand each other. I think I know you better than anyone else... and I think you know me like that too."

Heero just stared at him, trying to let himself believe that the loudmouthed baka could really mean the words he was saying. Heero winced inside; actually, Duo wasn't a baka. He was quite intelligent and skilled at many things; he just pretended to be stupid sometimes for the fun of it... and Duo never lied. Heero sighed, shaking his head. "I'll gripe at you for leaving wet towels in the bathroom. I'll yell at you to turn down your music. I'll probably even insult your housekeeping skills."

Duo laughed, his eyes lighting up with an anticipatory gleam. "I'll tell you to leave the damn towels, quit bitchin' about my music, and clean the fucking house yourself if you don't like it."

Heero felt warmth seep into his heart. Could it really work? He felt the shadow of a smile form on his lips. "As long as I get to fix up my own room," he replied, a challenging expression on his face.

Duo grinned widely. "It will be the one room in the house you can do whatever you like to." He thought for a moment then added with a frown, "Except paint it pink. NO pink, Heero." He accentuated the statement by shaking a finger at the other boy.

Heero couldn't help but smile then. "Ninmu Ryoukai."

Heero sighed, as he looked at the clock again... ten thirty. Duo wouldn't be home for at least another two-and-a-half hours. He sat on his bed, looking around his room. His room. It had been such a comforting thing for the past six months he'd been living there. Duo had been true to his word, allowing the Japanese boy to furnish it as he wished. Japanese fans and haiku parchments in frames graced the light blue walls. A blonde wood computer desk and matching bookcase were on one side of the room, the bed in the middle facing the door, the walk-in closet on the other side. There was a Japanese screen of jade green, dark red, deep violet, and light blue flowers that Heero had picked up at an import shop in town sitting between the bed and bookcase; it was his favorite thing in the room.

Heero sighed again... ten forty-five. He collapsed back onto his bed. How many nights had he lain there like this now? It wasn't as if he couldn't have gone with the braided baka. Duo asked him all the time to go to the club, but Heero felt like he would be intruding; even Duo needed a break from the 'Perfect Soldier' sometimes. That thought just made him more depressed.

The first four months had been more than Heero had ever hoped for. He and Duo had fallen into a routine so easily. Duo made breakfast and took out the trash before going to the scrap yard. Heero stayed home, working on his laptop for a securities company that paid him to 'break into' their clients' systems and help upgrade their safe-measures. He would make dinner before Duo got home then do the dishes while Duo picked up the apartment. They took turns doing the laundry. Surprisingly, it worked out fairly well. In the evening, they would watch television or movies before going to bed. On the weekends, they ate out, sometimes going to a movie, or the bookstore, or to the park. It had seemed so perfect, and Heero had begun to open up to Duo, talking to him about his past and his dreams. It had seemed like they were getting really close, and Heero had felt so secure in their friendship... until two months ago.

Duo had decided that he wanted to go out. Heero hadn't wanted to go, but he'd told Duo to go anyway, that he didn't need to be with him all the time. Duo went. Thus began Heero's nightmare. Duo had been going out every Friday and Saturday night since then, only to come home and tell Heero how great the music had been, how many people he'd met, and how much fun he'd had... without Heero. Duo never said that, but Heero knew it was true.

The dark-haired boy moaned as he rubbed his temples. "This is ridiculous! Duo needs to get out and have some fun. It's not like I can't keep myself occupied, and he invites me all the time, so it's not like he doesn't want me to go, but..."

Heero frowned. He was being left behind. He hated to feel that way, but he couldn't help it. All through the war, he had felt just a little left out when it had come to the camaraderie of the other pilots. Even Wufei had managed to be assimilated into their group, but Heero... Heero turned onto his side, his arms going around his knees to pull them to his chest, as he began talking out loud to himself again.

"I don't know how to reach out. I don't know what to say. I can talk to Duo, and sometimes, even the other pilots, but when it comes to regular people, I just can't..." Heero took in a shaky breath. "I can't... let them see... why would they want to? Why would anyone? There is nothing but anger and guilt... and fear. Duo needs to get away from that for a while. I don't know how he managed to deal with me for four months straight without some kind of release valve. If I could get away, I would. I wouldn't put up with myself if I didn't have to, but I don't know what to do to change.' Heero closed his eyes as he fought back the anger of being so inept. "I don't even know if I can."

Heero lay there for a few minutes in silence until he heard the front door open and shut. That couldn't be Duo. It was only eleven.

"He~ey! I'm ho~me!" came the cheerful voice of Duo Maxwell as he walked through the living room to stand in Heero's doorway. "Hey! Whatcha doin'? I came home early so we could maybe watch a movie or somethin'. You eaten yet?"

Heero shook his head, trying to pull himself out of the state of mind he had just been in. "No."

Duo smiled happily. "Cool! Pizza sound good?"

He didn't wait for Heero to answer him before leaving the room.

Duo Maxwell made his way home. The club had been less-than-exciting tonight; in fact, the club was like that all the time. He had continued going out since the first time because he felt like Heero needed his space. He kept asking Heero to go with him, but the former Wing pilot always refused. Duo would never have gone without Heero in the first place, but the other boy had been so insistent, and Duo hadn't wanted to argue. The fact that Duo was beginning to care even more for the other boy than he had when they'd first begun living together - well, sharing an apartment - had made him try to distance himself a little as well.

Duo had always appreciated both males and females alike. Growing up on L2, running around with street kids, you got to know some of the local prostitutes fairly well. Although Duo had never had to engage in that profession, he'd learned that when it came down to how attracted he was to someone, it was because of the person inside not the gender. Unfortunately, he found himself becoming attracted more and more to Heero. Erotic dreams involving your best friend are not cool when said friend is sleeping in the next room. Duo didn't want to lose Heero, and he would do whatever it took to make sure that didn't happen. To ruin their relationship just because of sex was not acceptable.

He opened the door to their two-bedroom apartment, getting ready to yell his usual welcome, when he noticed how quiet it was. Shutting the door softly, he listened for a moment, before walking to Heero's bedroom door. He paused when he heard the other boy talking.

"I don't know how to reach out. I don't know what to say. I can talk to Duo, and sometimes, even the other pilots, but when it comes to regular people, I just can't..." He heard Heero let out a shaky breath. "I can't... let them see... why would they want to? Why would anyone? There is nothing but anger and guilt... and fear. Duo needs to get away from that for a while. I don't know how he managed to deal with me for four months straight without some kind of release valve. If I could get away, I would. I wouldn't put up with myself if I didn't have to, but I don't know what to do to change.' Duo heard silence for a moment then Heero's voice again, "I don't even know if I can."

Duo felt his heart twist inside. He hadn't known Heero still felt that way. He silently stepped away from the door, making his way back through the living room to the front door. He stood there for a few moments, trying to decide what to do. Heero was hurting and didn't know how to reach out; Duo couldn't let that continue. The only reason he had wanted to go out in the first place was to get Heero onto the dance floor and have some fun. He hadn't meant to alienate Heero, but that's what he had done to try to hide his feelings. Well, he couldn't afford to make Heero feel like this just because he wanted him physically; he would just have to find a way to deal with the attraction. Sighing heavily at the road ahead of him, Duo opened the door then shut it in true Maxwell fashion before yelling as he made his way to Heero's bedroom, as if he'd just arrived.

"He~ey! I'm ho~me!" He stood at the doorway. "Hey! Whatcha doin'? I came home early so we could maybe watch a movie or somethin'. You eaten yet?"

He watched as Heero sat up, a confused look on his face. Duo could see the pain glimmer in his eyes for a moment before that mask of indifference fell. Heero shook his head, muttering a soft "no".

Duo forced himself to smile. "Cool! Pizza sound good?" He couldn't take that look anymore. He knew Heero was shutting him out, and it hurt; it hurt so bad, Duo thought he would cry. Instead of letting himself break down, he turned and went into the other room to call in their order.

They sat on the couch, an almost empty pizza box lying on the coffee table, and the television on. Duo had changed into a pair of sweats and a tee shirt while Heero had remained in his tee shirt and shorts. He had tried to draw Heero out, get the other boy talking the way he had only a couple months ago... before Duo had started going out... but it just wasn't working. Duo could have kicked himself. Why hadn't he seen the changes? It was so obvious, but Duo had been so wrapped up in his own feelings, he hadn't noticed his friend crying out.

"Hey, Heero? You wanna go to the museum tomorrow? We can stop at that Chinese place in town beforehand, if you want. I hear there's gonna be a really cool exhibit there. Wanna go?"

Heero looked over at the other boy. Something was wrong. Duo had done nothing but cajole and tease him all night. He hadn't been that way for about three months... what was going on? "Sure," he muttered, not even bothering to look at his companion.

Duo suddenly felt angry. It wasn't his fault that Heero was emotionally repressed. It wasn't his fault that Heero didn't want to have other friends. And it sure as hell wasn't his fault that Heero was miserable. Heero had all but made him go to the club when he'd brought it up, and he hadn't talked to Duo honestly about it either. Duo was trying to do all he could to be Heero's friend; what more could be expected? "Well, don't do me any favors, Yuy. If you don't want to fucking go, then don't," he spat.

Duo started to get up, but a strong hand prevented him from doing so. He looked down to see Heero glaring at him. "What the hell is going on, Duo?"

Duo glared back. "I don't know. You tell me. You're the one who's been nothing but a prick tonight."

"If you don't like it, I'll be glad to leave," Heero replied evenly, his voice cold as he removed his hand.

Duo stood and faced him. "I'm not keeping you here, Heero. You're free to go whenever you damn well please. Far be it from me to keep the 'Perfect Soldier' from doing what he wants. One day he's going to finally convince you that no one cares, and you're going to do something stupid, but you won't care how it will tear me up inside, will you? Damn you! I have never seen you be such a coward as you are being right now. You've always faced every obstacle with such determination. Why do you have to let what anyone else thinks about you matter? It didn't used to. You used to tell everyone to go to hell then you'd do what was necessary to survive. Why is this any different?" Duo was shaking as he finished his tirade.

Heero just sat there, so shocked, he didn't know what to say. The anger and hurt in those violet eyes that were turned on him made his heart ache. He wanted to lash out, to let the hurt he was feeling turn into anger so he could deal with it, but instead, he found himself admitting softly, "Because I'm afraid." The months with Duo had broken down enough barriers for him to acknowledge it... even if he didn't want to.

Duo's anger dissolved. Those were words he'd never heard the other boy say before. "Of what?"

Heero searched for the words, wishing he could just run away from this rather than face the other boy; the look in Duo's eyes was all that kept him there, forcing him to speak. "Of being left behind. Of being unwanted. Of being... rejected. You have the kind of personality that everyone loves, Duo, but me... no one wants to know me because there's nothing inside for me to offer. I want to, but I just... can't. And no one is willing to love someone and get nothing in return... not for very long anyway. No matter how many people I might get to know, they will all eventually grow tired of trying. I can't believe you've lasted this long." Heero averted his eyes, feeling alone once again.

Duo felt his heart rip into shreds. He'd always known Heero had problems interacting with others, but this? This was just too... Duo couldn't even find the words to describe the feeling of loss he had as he looked at the other boy. One minute he was standing there, the next, he was on the couch, pulling Heero into his arms. "I'm sorry, Heero. I don't want you to leave. I just can't stand it when you shut me out, and it makes me so angry to see you push me away when all I want to do is care about you." He paused for a moment before adding, "I'm sorry that I've been so distant lately. I thought you needed some breathing room. I didn't know you'd think I was getting tired of you."

Heero relaxed into Duo's embrace; even though he didn't want to admit it, it felt so good to be held. All of the loneliness disappeared at the braided boy's touch. Heero buried his face in Duo's shoulder, never wanting to leave the warmth there. "Gomen, Duo. Gomen."

Duo tightened his hold as he spoke softly. "I can't lose you, Heero. Don't you know what that would do to me? Can't you see how much you mean to me, Heero no baka?"

Heero pulled away to look at his friend. "Lose me? Duo, if anything, I'm going to lose you! One day, you'll meet the one person you want to spend your life with." Heero closed his eyes as he almost whispered, "No matter what, I will be left behind eventually."

Duo just stared at the other boy in unbelief. Heero thought he would leave him? Duo placed a hand on Heero's face, rubbing his cheek softly with his thumb, causing Heero to gasp lightly as his blue eyes flew back open. Duo looked into those depths and knew the time had come to tell Heero the truth. "YOU are the one I want to spend the rest of my life with, Heero Yuy. I know that you could never want me for a lover, but I am willing to live with you as friends if that's all I can have. I'd rather live with my soul mate and never have a sexual relationship than to be without you just to find someone to sleep with. I love you... however far you want to take it, I love you that much."

Heero was stunned. Duo loved him... but... his mind raced as he tried to grasp it. He looked into those violet depths, seeing the truth of Duo's words, and felt a glimmer of hope. "I... I care for you too, Duo, but... I don't know how far I want to... I mean... you know... but I... want to stay... with you... always."

Duo's bright smile lit up his face. It wasn't all he wanted, but it was enough. "Then stay, Heero. As long as you want to, stay with me. You never have to worry about me not wanting you here... ever."

Heero looked at the clock quickly... about fifteen more minutes before Duo would be home. He was in the kitchen finishing some chicken stir-fry, one of Duo's favorite meals. He had one of Duo's favorite CD's on in the living room, blaring through the apartment comfortably. He had found some sake at the oriental store in town that would compliment the meal perfectly. Everything was almost ready...

The past three months had been wonderful. Ever since their discussion, he and Duo had been much closer than before. Heero was learning to express himself more openly with Duo than he ever had with anyone else, and Duo was learning to see when the other boy was struggling, learning to remain patient with Heero and help him to talk about whatever was bothering him. It had proven to be something good so far.

Duo had indicated to Heero that he didn't know when his birthday was. Through personality tests, they had determined that Duo was most likely a Scorpio, and Heero was most likely an Aries, so they had appointed birthdays for each other; Duo's was October 27th and Heero's was April 11th. It was October 27th, AC197... Duo was seventeen. Heero wanted to do something special to celebrate and thank Duo for being there for him. He was still trying to accept the fact that Duo felt more for him than friendship, but it really hadn't changed their relationship all that much; Duo still touched him, even more so, yet it was never uncomfortable for Heero. In fact, those touches were becoming more and more welcomed.

There were times when Heero would get a funny little fluttering inside... when Duo would look at him a certain way, or when the braided boy would touch him with such a caring gesture, or even when Heero happened to be watching the other boy as he did something, not knowing Heero was there. The former Wing pilot didn't know what it meant, but he knew that he didn't want to stop feeling it. The way Duo made him feel was something he'd never had before, and even if it led to something more, he wouldn't deny that he needed it like air. Duo had accepted him like no one else had... like no one else could.

As his thoughts continued, Heero began moving to the music playing in the other room. One of the songs he particularly liked off the CD was on, and the Japanese pilot began swaying to it while he cooked.

//You say all I do is think about you. That's right, you're the only thing that's on my mind//

Heero smiled. That sounded so much like Duo it was scary. He let the bouncy tune fill him with a contentment he seldom felt. As the song continued, he felt the urge to sing... and did.

"You're light, won't you let it shine on me, yeah, all night, hold me tight and don't let go, 'cause I can't help myself, yanno. (S'okay) I know what I got, I know that it's hot, and you're what I want, you're so beautiful. One thing on my mind, I'm so in love and so alive, you're so beautiful."

Heero couldn't help but think of Duo every time he heard this song. Duo was beautiful. Heero flushed a bit. There was that fluttering feeling again... did it mean what he thought it did? He just smiled to himself again as he stirred the chicken.

Duo sighed in relief as he reached his front door. The day had been a total disaster. He was tired, irritable, and needed a beer desperately. As he entered the apartment, several things presented themselves; his Def Leppard CD was playing... loudly, there were wonderful smells emanating from the kitchen, along with the sounds of someone singing, and Heero's laptop was not even on. Raising an eyebrow, he closed the door and walked towards the other room. He had to stop at the doorway and stare for a moment.

Heero Yuy, former pilot of Wing Gundam, former assassin extraordinaire, former 'Perfect Soldier' was standing in front of the stove, singing and swaying to the music playing in the living room. Duo was stunned. It was a sight he's never thought he'd ever see.

"An angel from the sky, a sparkle in my eye, I can't believe you're mine, nahnahnahnahnah..."

Duo was entranced as he watched Heero's narrow hips move to the beat. The other boy was wearing a pair of jeans and a light blue tee shirt... his feet were bare.

"Sometimes, you slip and slide through my emotions. So high, take me up and spin me 'round, 'cause I don't wanna come back down. (S'okay) I know what I've got, I know that it's hot, and you're what I want, you're so beautiful. One thing on my mind, I'm so in love and so alive, you're so beautiful."

Duo's heart skipped a beat. The way Heero was singing those lyrics made them seem to mean something to the dark-haired boy. Duo closed his eyes for a moment and swallowed. When he opened them again, he decided to at least enjoy the other boy's good mood. His day had been hell. Why not forget it like this?

Heero was so engrossed in singing that he was a little surprised to feel a pair of arms encircle his waist suddenly. Duo's scent then filled him, calming him immediately. "I didn't hear you," he explained, allowing himself to relax into Duo's embrace. "Happy Birthday."

Duo had forgotten! He smiled and began moving with Heero in time to the music, taking over singing the song. "I can't believe you're mine, an angel from the sky, a sparkle in my eye, gets better every time, nahnahnahnahnah..." He turned Heero around, pulling him close as he began to really dance. "(S'okay) I know what I've got, I know that it's hot, and you're what I want, you're so beautiful. One thing on my mind, I'm so in love and so alive, you're so beautiful."

Heero was spellbound. Duo's voice sent shivers up his spine. It was so sexy and low as he sung, making Heero's heart speed up just from the sound of it. And the words... he could see Duo's heart shining in his eyes as he sang those words to him. He felt his arms go around Duo's neck without remembering to tell them to. His body was pressed against Duo's, and the heat he could feel between them was intoxicating. Why hadn't he realized how much he wanted Duo before? Why had he fought what he knew in his heart was his destiny? He moved closer to Duo, feeling the braided boy's arousal pressing against him, and he knew without a doubt what that feeling was he'd been having: He was in love with Duo.

Duo watched the emotions flash across Heero's face, feeling his heart swell as he realized that Heero was moving closer to him, actually dancing with him. He was breathing heavily as he sung the last lyrics of the song. "You're under my skin, my head to spin, again and again, you're so beautiful. I look in your eyes, I'm so in love and so alive, you're so beautiful. S'okay, S'alright, S'okay, S'alright... you're so beautiful. S'okay, S'alright, S'okay, S'alright... you're so beautiful."

Heero felt like he was being pulled into those violet eyes. He leaned forward, tentatively, and brushed his lips gently against Duo's... and found where he belonged.

Duo sighed as the other boy kissed him. It was so soft and sweet. He was afraid to do anything lest he scare Heero away; instead, he allowed Heero to lean closer, pressing his lips more firmly, sweeping over Duo's mouth more confidently as he continued. Duo couldn't help but moan as Heero licked at his bottom lip, asking for entrance, and receiving it. Then he couldn't hold back anymore. Tightening his hold, he met Heero's kiss with equal force, their tongues sparring within his mouth. He could feel Heero's answering erection pressed against him, and he thought he would weep for joy; Heero wanted him... finally.

Heero couldn't believe how good it felt to kiss Duo. He felt Duo respond, loving how Duo moaned and stroked his tongue with his own as Heero tasted him for the first time. Heero reached behind him, turning off the stove; dinner could wait... Duo could not. It had been too long already for the longhaired boy. Heero intended to not waste another moment.

Heero pulled away, panting. "Bedroom," he muttered, feeling himself harden even more at the thought of what they were going to do.

Duo placed his hands on Heero's face, tilting it so he could look into his deep blue eyes. "Are you sure? Please... don't start this unless you intend on finishing it, Heero. I couldn't... I couldn't take it. I've wanted you for so long. Are you sure you want me?"

Heero turned his face slightly, kissing Duo's palm before answering, "I've never been more sure of anything in my life, Duo Maxwell. I want you... all of you."

Duo closed his eyes for a moment, savoring the sound of those words. "Then let's not wait another second."

Heero threw a lid over the skillet and followed Duo to the other boy's room. It was surreal as they both undressed, so used to seeing each other naked, but noticing little details they had never allowed themselves to take in before. Duo had a birthmark on his hip; Heero had a scar on his stomach from a battle. Things like that caught their attention for the first time. Soon, they were both standing there, nude, aroused, and in love. Duo released his hair as they got into bed; their mouths met again as they turned to face each other.

"I promise to always make your life exciting."

"I promise to never let you forget how incredible you are."

"I promise to show you everyday how much I love you."

"I promise to make all of your dreams come true."

There were other promises made as they kissed each other, breathing words in between. Neither one could tell how long they lay there like that, kissing and touching, giving and taking of each other. Finally, Duo was poised above Heero, pushing a lubed finger inside him. There were moans of pleasure and cries of ecstasy as Duo prepared Heero. Duo was soon spreading lubricant on his erection as he placed Heero's legs on his shoulders. He looked down at the amazing boy beneath him and smiled.

"I love you, Heero. I don't want anyone else but you."

Heero's blue eyes shone with emotion he never thought he'd be able to feel, let alone show. The feel of Duo's hair caressing him as the other boy waited to make love to him was so incredible, but those bright violet eyes were what took Heero's breath away; they offered Heero everything he'd ever wanted. "No one else could love me like you do, Duo." He paused then added in a voice barely above a whisper, "And I couldn't love anyone else as much as I do you."

Duo's violet depths shimmered with unshed tears as he realized what the other boy had said. "Heero." With infinite tenderness, he entered Heero slowly.

"Duo... oh... Duo... nnnnn..."

"Heero... so good... love you..."

Once Duo was completely inside him, they began to move. Duo rocked his hips gently, allowing Heero to adjust to him. Soon Heero was thrusting back against Duo, meeting him with each motion. It was a powerful experience for both of them, a feeling of undeniable completeness overtaking them as they moved as one. Duo pulled out almost all the way each time, sliding back in with a snap of his hips, searching for Heero's prostate with each thrust until he found it.

"Duo!"

"Mmm... there it is..." Duo replied as he began a rhythm to drive the other boy crazy with desire.

Heero felt like he was on fire. Every movement Duo made sent him further into a haze of pleasure. Duo kept brushing against something inside him, sending jolts of sensation through his body each time. Duo's hair was like silken fire on his skin, teasing yet tantalizing. He felt himself losing control and embraced it; he could trust Duo enough to let go completely, and it felt so good.

"Harder, Duo. Take me harder... harder!"

Duo groaned at the sound of Heero's voice. He had never heard the other boy be so vocal or free. It showed him just how much Heero was giving of himself at that moment. Duo grabbed Heero's hips and began pounding into him frantically, coaxing more shouts and encouragements from the former Wing pilot's lips as he made love to him passionately.

"Touch yourself, Heero. Let me see you come for me," Duo pleaded huskily, knowing they were both almost ready to climax.

It didn't take long for them both to reach completion. Heero reached between them and stroked himself as Duo asked, Duo still thrusting into him. It only took a couple of minutes more for Heero to feel it building inside him, and he tensed and released all over his hand and stomach, shouted as the pleasure took him.

"Yes! Yes! Yes! Duo!" Heero felt waves of pleasure roll over him as his seed pulsed out over and over again. A moment later, he heard Duo yell, and watched the other boy find release. Duo's head was thrown back, his hair flowing all around their bodies, as he filled Heero with his passion, claiming him. Heero finally belonged to someone.

Duo felt Heero climax and watched as his lover let their passion overwhelm him. The look on the dark-haired boy's face was so beautiful that Duo would have wept had he not been otherwise engaged. He felt Heero clamp down on him, causing his own orgasm to trigger, and he yelled out his love for the other boy as he began pumping him full of his essence.

"Heero! Love you!" Duo let the feeling overtake him as more than his seed flowed out into his lover; a part of himself had been given as well. He'd never known something could feel so perfect. Never before had he felt this kind of release. No one else had ever made him feel this way.

Duo reluctantly pulled out of Heero, rolling over beside him so he could pull the blue-eyed boy into his arms. Duo buried his face in Heero's messy hair, breathing in the scent of his lover. Heero had Duo's hair all around him, touching it in wonder. They lay there for a while until Duo suddenly began to laugh. Heero pulled away slightly and gave him a questioning look.

"What's so funny?"

Duo ran a finger along Heero's cheek. "Now you're gonna have something else to complain about." When Heero furrowed his brows in confusion, Duo chuckled lightly as he clarified. "You'll be bitchin' at me: Duo! Why can't you keep your hands off me for one damn minute?!"

Heero smirked. "Oh, I seriously doubt that will be a complaint, Duo. In fact, you may just find when it comes to having sex with... making love to... you, I may be a little more aggressive than you anticipate." Before Duo could reply, Heero rolled over on top of him, his reawakened arousal rubbing against Duo's thigh. Duo gasped as Heero brushed the longhaired boy's entrance lightly with his fingertip. "I do believe you've met your match."

Duo grinned as Heero leaned down to take his lips in a hungry kiss, his own erection coming back to life in light of Heero's teasing. "Mmm... perfect match, it seems to me. Wow! What a birthday gift!"

Heero chuckled before claiming his mouth again. They continued to kiss and touch, surrendering to the passion that had been waiting for them for so long. As Heero was poised above Duo, he smiled down at his lover and said with a voice full of emotion and certainty, "I love you, Duo Maxwell."

Duo smiled back at his dark-haired dream come true. "Love you too, Heero Yuy."

As Heero claimed the one who had shown him that he never had to be alone again, he whispered to himself happily, "I'm glad we've finally reached an understanding."
