I am starting a series of 'essay'-ish writings about character personalities... I have begun this because this list is not just for fics, but information. This is my opinion and deducted reasons for why I see/write Duo the way I do. Please, feel free to ignore it and think your own thoughts.... but please, again, don't just be a biased ass (as some people I know are ::points at her imouto-chan Rhianna::) and at least read this and give it a moment's thougth. That is all I ask.

Duo Maxwell is the American pilot of Gundam 02 (of course, you all know that). Duo is a character of many facets. He is an obviously strong willed and talkative character as seen in the series. But since the series focuses on the entire scope of the Gundam Wing universe, you do not get the fully character of Duo Maxwell.
My deductions, taking from what /is/ known of Duo Maxwell, is that he is an easily liked character (ex. Hilde warms to him awfully quickly!). His tramatic past leads me to believe that he would be very protective of those he holds close and considers friends (ex. Hilde, Quatre). His being an orphan and dealing with the 'shit of life,' I believe Duo would not want to place his burdens on others, keeping them to himself until he could no longer bear it. I also feel that he is a very spiritual character, whether or not he denies God has nothing to do with /TRUE/ spirituality (he believes in Shinigami, doesn't he? That is something higher, and essentially spiritual). As for being depressed and self-mutulative, it is possible that he goes through these types of things, but who doesn't? Hmmm, what have I not covered? Ah, the fact that nearly all of the GW community sees Duo as gay (whether it is because they like him and yaoi or because they hate him and use it as a scapegoat, I don't care). There is nothing that really drops him on either side of the line. Heero shows more of a leaning towards the same sex than Duo does... in fact, Duo reminds me of my friend Paradox no Miko, who walks the line between straight and gay to be Non-Sexual. He (Duo) is friends with both sexes equally and shows no inclination of taking either side to bed.
His personality rank is ENFJ... the Champion. (This rating is taken from the Kersy (sp?) Personality Test). A Champion is an extroverted person who has a very strong will and is a very likeable person and will follow as well as take the lead. They are headstrong and stubborn, but can also be sensible and logical. They are creative and kind, but can hide a temper hotter than the sun.
Having said the bit about Non-Sexuality (though he radiates 'come hither'-ness as one author put it ^_^) I shall now explain why Duo is the 'perfect Uke' ^_^ (yeah, odd, I know, but like I said, he radiats sexuality without showing inclination toward sex itself).
Duo's personality (again, what we've seen of it in the series and that deducted from what is seen) is one that could go either way (top or bottom), but there is a subtle thing in it.... While in pairing him with a female (let's say, Hilde) he would more than likely take the lead since she does not have another source of orgasm other than her... ::coughs::... But with a male, Duo more than likely would opt for bottom... Why? ::takes a deep breath::
Most males are agressive and want to take the lead... I mentioned that ENFJ's can be flexible in this venue... So... Duo being an ENFJ in a m/m relationship, unless his partner was a total pansy, would opt for a lot of extra pleasure for a little pain. Also, with his past, I doubt Duo would want to bring any hurt to his friends (and a lover is a friend more often than not).... This is part of the protectiveness that I feel is a big part of Duo.
Saying this (Duo being the perfect uke), he also goes well with almost any character under the right conditions. Heero and Duo are an obvious example of any time, any situation (just about). But the others are all very plausible too.... His personallity just meshes so well with any of the other characters (yes, even Relena and Treize... maybe even Une under PWP circumstances ::grimaces::).
I've said my bit. This is my opinion, feel free to ignore it... But I REFUSE to have an argument with you (anyone) over it.... I will not debate 1x2 vs 2x1 or het vs hom.... This is my opinion, again, and if you don't like it, please... Ignore it!
