Inside the bedroom he shared with Duo, Heero stared at the screen of his laptop. The information before him was almost unbelievable. Instinctively, he knew it was true, through the strange bond he shared with Odin. Still, to have one's entire notion of self suddenly brought into question was... disturbing.
His training had taught him to ignore his humanity, to strive to be the perfect soldier, perfect fighting machine, perfect killer. So he had tried to be something more than human in every way, ignoring the limitations of his body. And in the process, he had also become something less than human, ignoring his emotions. Both these descriptions, however, assumed 'human' was the baseline for comparison.
Except he had suddenly discovered that he wasn't human at all.
In the living room, Duo stared, trembling, as Heero leaned forward, his face approaching Duo's own. Violet eyes zoomed in on the parted lips, until they seemed to fill his entire field of vision. <ohmygod... he's going to kiss me.... please, heero.....> He could feel the warmth of the other boy's breath, and his eyes slowly slid shut, his thoughts whirling.
Odin smirked slightly, his own cobalt eyes shutting in anticipation, as he flicked the tip of his tongue over Duo's lips and felt the other boy jump as though he had been struck with an electric current. <I want you, Duo... just like He does... I remember every time he looked at you... how has he been able to stand wanting you so long...?>
"Odin!" Heero's voice was hard and cold, a roughly barked command that shocked him upright, pulling away from Duo in the split second before their lips fully met. Duo's eyes flew open as well, shock and confusion filling their depths. Odin's lips slowly pulled into a smirk, and he stepped toward Heero.
Heero was trembling, irrational anger filling him, clenching his fists. Seeing his double leaning over Duo had stirred such emotion in him-- emotions he'd thought dead, that his training had tried to suppress, to deny. He wasn't sure what they were, or why... but he wanted to be the one touching Duo, the one feeling his skin, smelling his scent. His blood pounded in his ears, reminding him of the heartbeat he'd longed for. <Home...>
He grabbed Odin's arm, clutching it tightly and pulling him further away from Duo. Sudden possessiveness filled him, obscuring his thoughts. Duo was his, warmth and heartbeat... longing washed over him like a flood. His eyes narrowed as he glared at his twin. "We need to talk," he managed to grate out through clenched teeth.
Duo's startled eyes were the last thing he saw as he pushed Odin into the bedroom and slammed the door behind them.
<What the hell was that?!> Duo asked himself, sitting stunned on the couch. One moment, he'd been reeling from the touch of Heero's tongue against his lips, a prelude to a kiss that he was sure would have rocked him from his boots, and suddenly, there were two Heeros, one looking like he'd popped out of Duo's wet dreams, the other still sultry in spandex and his usual green tanktop. And suddenly they were both gone, leaving him aroused and confused.
<You want him,> Shinigami purred softly. <So that's why you always make such a fuss about him. Why not just fuck him and get it over with?>
<Shut up!> he hissed angrily. The image taunted him, he and Heero together, tangled and sweaty and desiring, but he pushed it away. <One of those two isn't Heero. There's only one Heero, right? This other one... Odin?... is like a... a long-lost brother, or a clone, or a space alien or something. God, this is so weird... why doesn't he just tell me what's going on? And for that matter...
.... which one of them almost kissed me?>
"What the hell were you doing in there?" Heero growled angrily at Odin, who lounged nonchalantly on his--their-- bed. The other boy looked up at him, quirking an eyebrow, and for a moment Heero tried to imagine himself looking like that, so relaxed, so normal.
"I thought it was obvious... I was trying to kiss him. He's cute. I like him. You do too, and you've been here longer than I have, so why haven't you?" Odin toed each heavy boot off, letting it drop to the floor, then tucking his legs up beneath himself. Heero growled in frustration.
"I'm... not supposed to be doing that. It interferes with the mission. I shouldn't be feeling anything for him. " He paced the floor, restlessly, speaking to himself as much as to the boy on the bed. <It doesn't make sense. Why do I want so much to touch him...? To hold him, feel his warmth, his scent, his life... makes me feel warm inside, when I think of him....>
Odin watched as Heero marched across the floor, hearing his unspoken thoughts and chuckling. The poor boy was so confused. It made him angry, that they'd trained and disciplined him until he couldn't even admit that he cared for someone. Duo would be a good mate; he and Heero would be happy together. But Heero was so damn rigid. He'd have to think of something drastic to get the two of them to admit what they wanted.
Finally, Heero simply turned and lay on the only available bed, staring up at the ceiling. <I wasn't trained to handle this. I don't understand. This was confusing enough, before, but now Odin is here as well--> The thought reminded him of his other situation, his origins. Odin had the answers, and he wanted some. He sat up slowly, facing the other boy.
"I'm not human, am I?" he asked quietly. Odin's face turned serious, and he straightened. "Yes and no. You came from a human fetus, originally. But I altered you, mixed my own DNA with yours. That's why you're different than most humans."
Heero nodded, slowly. "The increased strength and durability, reflexes, cognitive ability, among other things, I assume. Dr. J certainly made the most of those."
Odin scowled. "I don't think I like him. You've suppressed all your natural feelings because of his training. He never appreciated me... just saw me as a way to create super soldiers, weapons for killing. But that's not all you are, no matter what you think."
"Hn." Heero turned and stared at the door, his mind filled with images of the young man on the other side. "Then what am I?"
