Title: A Christmas Story
Author: RurouniTriv
Notes: Well, if you looked at the other post I did tonight, you'll see references to a long poem that I didn't want to post with the rest of them because it was so long. This is it: a Christmas story in poem form. It's not "A Visit from St. Nicholas", but what the heck.

A Christmas Story by RurouniTriv

Visions of sugarplums never danced in my head
Nor that of any child I knew.
Hell, I don't even know what a sugarplum is
Best I dreamed of was a bowl of stew!
I never stuffed myself on ham or turkey,
Much less fatted a Christmas goose.
I rarely ever had a full belly
Military rations were a feast for me.
Now I sit here at your table
Food as far as the eyes can see
And all I can think of is the kids on L2
Who aren't half so lucky as me.
"Eat up, Duo!" you urge me,
Smiling with Christmas glee.
But my stomach churns just at the thought
Of displaying such horrible greed.
"I'm not hungry," I say quietly
And watch as your face falls.
"Don't you like it?" you sadly ask,
And give me the puppy-dog eyes.
I never could withstand those,
So I try my best to explain.
"I grew up having nothing, and
Lucky I was to survive.
Now I look at all that's before me
And remember those who had less."
Your face grows sad and solemn
And you heave a heavy sigh,
"I know just what you mean, my friend,
And I wish I could do more,
But even Winner riches
Cannot feed all who are poor."
But I know I've got you thinking,
That sharp look is in your eyes.
No surprise, you say, "I've got it!"
As from your chair you rise.
"You say your conscience won't let you
Enjoy this sumptuous feast?
Well, what if we were to take it
To those who have the least?"
"What do you mean?" I ask you then,
Not seeing where you're going.
"Well, there's poor right here on L4
Who'd love to share our bounty,
And my people say to share our gifts
Brings blessings beyond counting."
With that you call upon the clan
Of Maguanacs who serve you,
And Rashid, their huge leader
Gave a smile when he heard you.
"Come on, Duo," you gaily cry,
"Do you really want to miss this?
I do believe this is the best idea
For how to spend a Christmas!"
And so we went and spread the cheer
And shared our Christmas feast,
And we all enjoyed our Christmas with
Those who had the least.
So I wish to all of you
Many Christmas blessings
And I hope that you all have
Joy that never lessens!
