Notes: Sequel to: Nocturnal, which anyone with a scorecard will know is part of the DaMoyre Games series. It continues to follow the exploits of Heero and Trowa. I don't know that I'm 100% happy with it, but it's what insisted upon happening. Nocturnal, Penalty and this story constitute an alternate timeline from DaMoyre's series. Heero and Trowa were surprised when Federation troops started to attack the OZ base they were at. In some ways, it made their task of setting explosives so it would crumble into dust easier because the OZ troops were too busy fighting what used to be their allies rather than worrying about two terrorists from the colonies.
Their luck ran out a bit after a lucky shot from a Federation suit blew a hole in the side of the building they were at. The ceiling began collapsing all around them. Trowa managed to pull Heero and himself out of the way of the biggest chunk of concrete. As the dust cleared, they realized the room was decimated. The only reason they were alive was they scurried into an area where the steel beam formed a protective, if precarious pocket. How long the beam would keep them protected was unknown.
Heero stopped coughing up the dust that had reached his lungs long enough to look over at Trowa to ask, "Are you okay?" He pulled out a small battery operated lantern and placed it between the two of them.
Trowa, also was coughing. "Yeah, I'm fine. Hope you're not claustrophobic," the taller boy said.
"If we were claustrophobic, none of us would be gundam pilots. It's not like the cockpits of our suits are all that roomy."
Trowa smiled. "Very true."
Heero stared at Trowa with a look of longing. They still weren't together, but when they had times were they were comfortable enough to talk, he would long for the complete ease of their relationship before. Of course, he knew this was hardly the time to be thinking about these things.
They sat in silence for a minute before Trowa began to look around their area. "I guess we should start looking for ..."
"Trowa, you're hurt!" Heero blurted out as he noticed the trail of blood that seemed to be coming from the side of the other boy's head. He reached out his hand to pull Trowa closer to see the real damage.
Trowa moved back unconsciously. "It's nothing, no doubt it was debris."
Heero frowned when Trowa inched away from him. This was about nothing but survival for the moment. "Don't fight me. Let me see," he said coldly.
Trowa stared back at him surprised. "Really, it's nothing."
"Trowa."
"Dammit, okay," the taller boy surrendered leaning over so Heero could check his injury. "Just make it quick."
Heero pulled the lantern closer to Trowa as he followed the blood trail to its source. He placed the lantern down and with both hands gently felt Trowa's head searching for fractures. He pulled the lantern back up to Trowa's face to check his pupils.
"Well Dr. Yuy? What's the diagnosis?" Trowa grumbled quietly.
"You might be concussed. No fractures that I could find, but that doesn't mean they aren't there. You'll live," Heero said.
"Good to hear," Trowa smiled again. "Now that we got that out of the way, shouldn't we be trying to find a way to get out of here?" He took the lantern from Heero and aimed it higher up so they could see their predicament better.
There was a large block of cement lying perpendicular to the beam that was protecting them from it. All around was chunks of steel, rocks and other debris. They looked for a source of light to set their goals for escape on.
"Did you bring your radio?" Trowa asked. "Mine is back at Heavyarms."
"I had it, but dropped it when the sky starting falling," Heero sighed. "We'll have to dig our way out, but we'll have to be very careful."
"That's a given Heero," Trowa replied. "Shall we get started?"
"Hn," Heero said as he began to move some of the smaller rocks out of the way. The two started to diligently work on making a path when they heard the gentle whine of the steel beam as it shifted slightly.
Both stopped.
"Guess we'll need too be even more careful," Trowa said quietly.
"Let's rest for a moment," Heero said as he sat closer Trowa.
"Okay," Trowa said. "We're not going to make it out of here, are we?"
"Probably not. Either more stuff will collapse around us, or we'll run out of air," Heero said quietly.
"So is it now or never time?" Trowa asked.
"What?"
"You know ... time for truths, confessions, regrets?" Trowa said with a sigh.
"Only if you want it to be," Heero answered.
Trowa turned away and began to shift rocks. "I'm sorry we're not together anymore. I've missed you," he said in a calm voice. "I know I will never be who you really want, but I love you." More rocks moved, as he continued, "It's also morbid to say, but if I have to die today, I'm glad you're here with me."
Heero stopped Trowa's movements, forcing him to look into dark blue eyes. "Baka."
"Ah, thanks," Trowa said pulling away.
At that moment, there was a sudden shift of rocks. Heero pulled Trowa beneath him to shield the taller boy from the onslaught. More dust and debris covered the two, not completely collapsing their small structure but close.
Trowa looked up at Heero in surprise. "Thanks," he said more sincerity than he did moments before.
"You got us out of the worst of this before. I figured it was my turn," Heero said with a small smile.
"Are you hurt?" Trowa asked frowning, as he pulled his hand away from Heero's back feeling the warm, stickiness of blood.
"I'll live," Heero responded.
"That's your answer for everything?" Trowa asked with a mixture of fear and exasperation.
"Hai," Heero answered.
"Ah, just making sure," Trowa managed to say before Heero leaned down to kiss him. It was a hard desperate kiss that Trowa returned with equal desperation. When Trowa broke the kiss he began to chuckle. "I can't believe you're horny NOW."
"You're hardly one to talk, Trowa," Heero returned the chuckle, as he kissed the other boy's neck. "You feel happy to see me as well." Reluctantly Heero pulled away from Trowa, to survey their predicament. He was surprised to see their savior steel beam was still affording them some protection. They returned to the task of tunneling out.
After a few minutes of work, Heero began to frown. "Trowa, earlier you said you thought you weren't who I really wanted. Why would you think I didn't want you? Just who am I suppose to want? Duo?" Heero asked.
"Have there been others I'm forgetting?" Trowa sighed, not thrilled that they returned to this conversation. He concentrated on the task at hand.
"I thought you wanted to include Duo?" Heero said.
"Not really. Don't get me wrong. Duo is attractive and there was pleasure had, but it wasn't what I wanted. I agreed because you wanted it to happen."
"Trowa, you could have said no. I wouldn't have left you or anything," Heero said, exasperated.
"How was I to know that Heero? I'm new at this relationship stuff you know," Trowa said, defensively.
"And I'm an expert at it?" Heero said equally defensive. "If you recall, I didn't want to become close to any of you. I didn't want anything to distract me from my mission in this war. You all managed to worm your way into my conscience, but you managed to go even further. How can you not know that I love you too, baka!"
Trowa smiled. "So we're both idiots. Now that we've established that, we need to get back to getting out of here."
"Okay, but one thing first," Heero said.
"What?" Trowa asked.
Heero pulled him close and kissed him. Trowa relaxed into the kiss. Heero ended the kiss and smiled at Trowa's dazed face. "Now I'm ready."
As they continued to tunnel, they heard a familiar voice booming. "I spy with my little eye something that starts with 'p'," Duo said from the speaker of his gundam. "Would you boys like a little assistance? You may want to move over to one side." Duo observed on his infrared sensor that Heero and Trowa had moved over. Duo used the hands of his gundam to hold up the steel beam with one hand while pushing debris with the other.
When the hole was big enough, Heero and Trowa crawled out.
"You guys okay?" Duo asked from inside his gundam.
Both boys nodded. "We're fine. How did you find us?" Heero asked.
Well your radios do have tracking devices. We hadn't heard back from you two, so I went to look for you. Do you want a ride back to your suits?" Duo asked.
"That would be appreciated," Trowa said. Duo lowered Deathscythe's hand. Trowa and Heero climbed up into the massive mecha hand that gently closed around them. As they made the journey to their suits, Trowa looked over to Heero. "Ah the irony, ne? Saved by the one person that caused us problems."
Heero saw the irony but wouldn't voice it. "On missions we should always be a team regardless of personal feelings."
"Baka," Trowa intoned. He knew that was right and even estranged as they were, he always attempted to stay impartial on missions. He didn't need Heero preaching the obvious to him. However, thinking back to the past hour spent with Heero, he wouldn't let himself slip into an argumentative mood.
Once they returned to their suits, they surveyed the damage to the base. The Federation troops had damaged a good bit of the base. But Heero felt it wasn't enough.
"Trowa, do you have the detonator?" Heero asked over the radio.
"Yes. I guess we should finish this?" Trowa replied.
"Sounds like a plan," Heero said.
"Ryoukai," Trowa uttered as he pressed the button on the remote that demolished the rest of the base. The explosion was tremendous. "Let's go home."
"Hai," Heero agreed.
"Nice fireworks, Tro," Duo said.
"Thanks," Trowa replied. "And thanks for getting us out."
"No problem," Duo said.
Returning back was a fairly quiet, uneventful trip. Once they got to the house, Quatre decided to play nurse to the two boys. As Quatre bandaged their injuries, Heero gave a quick report to the others. Heero and Trowa went to their rooms afterwards.
Grabbing a towel, Trowa opened his door to head to the bathroom for a quick shower. As he opened the door, Heero was standing on the other side of it. "Heero?"
Heero walked into Trowa's room, closing the door behind him. "Going somewhere?"
Trowa raised his hand, showing him the towel. "Shower."
Heero smiled. "Why? You're just going to get dirty again. Unless you want some company."
Trowa kissed Heero. Once he released him, he smiled. "Company would be good."
