Title: Balance
Author: RurouniTriv
Notes: I haven't been doing anything but art for a while, and it's gotten me twitchy. So, to bring me back into balance, I present a poem called Balance. No warnings, not even for sap. And I hardly think I need to warn about implied m/m relationships here!
Soft skin, thick hair, bright eyes
Cheek curved like an impish chipmunk
Perfectly formed to fit into the palm of my hand
Long braid expressive as a cat's tail
With every movement, shifting
Speaking volumes on mood, strength, well-being
Lithe body hidden beneath folds of black
Sometimes red, rarely white
Odd for one who calls himself Death
But then, for his people, white is life
Where in my mind it is the color of death
And black, like a raven's wing, like my hair
Is the color of the one who come to claim men's lives
And so we seem so opposite
He so black and I so white and they do not see
That together we are yin and yang
Two halves, incomplete without each other
Together forming the perfect balanced whole
Each of us has a bit of the other within
He the paleness of the priest-collar he wears into battle
I the darkness of my eyes, my hair
Together we balance, he with his spirit and liveliness
I with my quiet and introspective nature
We find in each other the part missing in ourselves
In battle we both seem madmen
Raging unchecked through our enemy's ranks
He laughing, I screaming as we take our revenge
Revenge, I say, and justice
We take it for those who are gone
For those who were taken too soon from us
And for all we once had that was lost
We shall make them pay in blood
And in the souls of the dead at our hands
Taken from them as they took from us
By fire and sword and disease
From cruelties intended and unthought-of
The cruelties that they inflicted upon us
The losses that are crushing our souls
These are the things that drew us here
Now that all of our innocence is gone
The darkness within him matches my flame
The wildness we can both share
These are the things that now bind us
As we move from the night to the dawn
These things hold us even as they drive us on
