Distracting Treize-sama by Tzigane

The Wilmington Stories: Part Twenty-Six

The sound of the doorbell woke Treize from a less than sound sleep and he scowled as he fumbled for the clock. What time was it!? Sleeping alone for the first time in almost four weeks was, to be frank, damned near impossible and it made him grouchy that his lover had been required to go back to the dorms. With a sigh, he realized that it was three in the morning... so who in all hell would be ringing his doorbell!?

Grumpily, he slid from the bed, jerking his robe around him and padding out of the bedroom on bare feet. Flickering on the light so that he could see his way down the stairs just blinded him and made him even more irritable by the time he reached the front door so he wrenched it open with a growl, "What do you... Wufei!?"

The young man shook violently, arms wrapped around himself. He was so wet that he was dripping onto the porch, his thin t-shirt and battered jogging pants no protection from the cold as his teeth chattered. "T...t...t...treize-ss...ss...samm...mma..."

"Dear gods! What on earth are you doing so wet wandering around in freezing cold weather!?" Treize asked, stripping off his robe and wrapping it around Wufei in an attempt to dry the worst of the water from those sleek caramel limbs as he pulled the student inside, not heeding the fact that he was now completely naked.

"S...s...sprinklers...." Wufei chattered again, rubbing his arms. A violent fit of sneezing prevented Treize from asking anything further as he hussled Wufei up the stairs and began to run a bathtub full of warm water before proceeding to strip him bare.

"Why didn't you just take a shower instead of coming here?" Treize asked with a frown just as the phone downstairs began to ring. A violent spate of coughing from Wufei stalled his going to answer it and thus whoever it was hung up before he could even turn to leave the bathroom. Suspicion began to dance along Treize's skin as his eyes narrowed, almost sapphire with their gleam. "Wufei, what is going on here?" he demanded with a stern look. "Don't you dare tell me nothing, either, or I swear I'll take you over my knees here and now before you even get into the tub!"

Black eyes widened impossibly and Wufei stifled another sneeze, face squinching up with the sudden pain in his sinuses. "I don't know what's going on, Treize-sama! Nabiki just said that I was supposed to distract you! And she sent me through the sprinklers that are going off on the front lawn!"

Treize's blinking was almost audible. "Nabiki sent you to distract me?" A sudden shiver of panic ran through him. He *knew* that Wufei loved him and that he returned the young boy's feelings... but that didn't make it any *less* illegal because of Wufei's tender age. With a worried grimace, Treize removed the last of his clothing. How could Nabiki know to send Wufei to distract him!? Had he given something away... was he really so obvious? Grimly, Treize towelled off the chilled rivulets of water running down Wufei's damp body before turning off the water.

Wufei nodded as the older man bundled him into the tub and lifted a sponge to drench hot water over his freezing cold skin. "She told Duo that I could distract you long enough for them to do what needed to be done."

"What needs to be done, Wufei?" Treize's voice was deadly calm.

"I don't know, Treize-sama. I'm just supposed to distract you."

"I see. Well, I think that perhaps now would be a good time for me to get dressed and go check on Duo, don't you think?" Treize asked, standing.

Wufei stood with him. "No no no! You can't! I mean, that is to say, I'm supposed to be distracting you! And if I don't distract you then that means that Nabiki will do something Nabiki-esque!"

"Nabiki-esque?" Treize asked. His head was beginning to swim. Stars, this was almost as bad as dealing with Maxwell himself!

"Mm! Nabiki-esque! So I have to distract you! That's my job!" Wufei told him with a firm nod.

"I see," Treize said (though he didn't). "Well, you stay there in the tub and get warm. I'm going to get dressed."

"But you can't!" Wufei wailed as he left, climbing out of the tub and grabbing a towel, rubbing at his barely warmed body to keep himself from dripping as he wandered after Treize, watching the man get dressed with quickness. "I'm supposed to be distracting you!" he told him, frowning pitifully. "I'm not worth being distracted?" he asked, artlessly dropping his towel in a motion worthy of Heero himself.

It took every ounce of will for Treize *not* to pounce him and show him precisely how distracting he actually was. "You're beautifully distracting, little snap-dragon," he whispered after he pulled on a deep blue sweater and tugged it over the waistband of his faded denim jeans, reaching for socks and tennis shoes. "But I have to go and make sure Duo hasn't set the campus on fire. That's my job."

Wufei snuffled desolately. "But my job is to distract you and you aren't letting me do that so why should I let you go and do yours?"

"Because our jobs are mutually exclusive, little one, and should one of us complete their responsibility the other should undoubtedly fail," Treize murmured, pulling on his second tennis shoe and embracing his wet lover closely to kiss his forehead with tenderness. "And since I get paid for mine and I'm almost certain that you have distracted me long enough for Nabiki to have completed whatever plan she has concocted so that she will not do 'Nabiki-esque' things to you, I shall now go and see precisely what Mr. Maxwell has done this time." There was no doubt in his mind that Duo was responsible. How could there be? The only persons who came even remotely close to Duo for finding themselves in trouble were Ranma and Yuusuke and they both lived in one of the co-ed dorms... *not* in Wufei's. Therefore the logical conclusion was that whatever trouble had been creatred, Duo was directly responsible.

"Treize-sama..." The forlorn sound of Wufei's voice as he sneezed again almost made him stop, but he couldn't.

"I'll be back, Wufei. Climb back into the tub and then into bed and get some sleep. All right? I'll be back." With that, he swung the bedroom door open and moved quickly down the stairs and out the front door.

Wufei sniffled, his eyes developing great fat tears as he plopped himself down on the edge of the bed and began half-heartedly drying his cold hair. They trembled for long seconds as he tried to repress them and finally spilled over as he crawled to 'his' side of the bed and buried his cool face against the pillows to sob.

Treize hadn't even said 'I love you' before he left.[1]

The End

[1] Oh, come on!! Nobody else has ever cried over something that silly? ^_^ Oh, it's just me?? *^_^* Well, he *is* getting a cold so he doesn't feel all that good to begin with!! So maybe that excuses his crying over something like that? Ne?
