Gundam Wing Addiction Archives

01-Jul-2000

I think I've finally finished this. It seemed the logical conclusion:

Category: Angst, Shounen-ai
Rating: PG
Pairings: 3+5
Spoilers: Borrows some from Endless Waltz
Warnings: None I can think of.
Feedback: C&C

Notes: I think if I continued on with this it would be a freakin' book. So I'm stopping while I'm ahead. If anyone has read my little fic, Redemption the first paragraph will seem a little familiar. Hey, maybe I should play "connect the fics!" Enjoy.

Part Three

After Heero saved the day by using his buster rifle to destroy the errant bit of Libra that was still threatening earth, the war ended. Quatre was injured more seriously than anyone thought and all the gundam pilots awaited news of him in a hospital.

Everyone took turns visiting Quatre. Wufei walked into the intensive care with more than a little apprehension.

"Wufei," Quatre said, "I didn't think you would come for a visit."

"Why wouldn't I? You're injured," Wufei retorted.

"Yes, but you're here for Trowa. Not me," smiled Quatre.

Wufei looked back at the boy in surprise, "Nani?"

"It's okay. Well, that's not true. It's not okay really. I know you have feelings for Trowa," the blonde boy said. "He insisted there's nothing going on with you two, but I don't believe that."

Wufei slightly flushed thinking of what almost happened before they were called away to fight. "There is nothing going on."

Quatre laughed. "Trowa was right. You are a horrible liar!" The laughter brought on a small coughing spell. "Look, Wufei, I love Trowa. I know that he loves me. I just don't understand how you fit in the equation."

Wufei sighed. 'Where do I fit in this equation, indeed.' "Trowa and I are only friends, Quatre. You have nothing to worry about. Nor have you ever had anything to worry about."

Quatre regarded him for a moment before replying, "Arigato, Wufei. I appreciate you talking to me about this."

"Hn," Wufei responded as he left the room and returned to the waiting room. He couldn't meet Trowa's eye. He didn't really want to stay either, but he knew he had to.

Wufei watched Trowa slyly to see how he was doing. The quiet boy seemed concerned but not outwardly showing it to anyone. Well to anyone who would notice. Wufei noticed. During a moment when there were only the two of them in the waiting room, others went off to find something to eat, did they talk.

"Quatre will be fine you know," Wufei offered.

"Yes, I know he will," Trowa replied.

"What's wrong then?" Wufei asked slightly confused.

"I'm wondering how you are."

"Me? Why wonder about me?" Wufei pressed.

"You are upset. What is it?" Trowa asked.

"You think you know me so well, huh?" Wufei retorted.

"Well enough. Tell me what's wrong. Please," pleaded Trowa.

Wufei hesitated. He knew he wouldn't tell the boy about his conversation with Quatre, so he opted to talk about something else that was bothering him. "This is going to sound stupid. I'm upset about Krushenada," sighed Wufei.

"Treize Krushenada? Why? You defeated him," Trowa remarked now staring at Wufei.

"I don't think I defeated him at all. He let me defeat him. That's not defeat, that's a hollow victory," Wufei said sadly.

Trowa took his hand. "Treize probably felt the need to sacrifice himself for the cause. There's no shame in that."

Wufei pulled his hand away. "Perhaps, but I feel cheated." He got up and walked away.

"Wufei, what else is bothering you?" Trowa called out, but the boy never turned around. He continued to walk out of the hospital. That was the last time Trowa saw him until he joined the Mariemeia faction the next year.

The last thing Trowa expected when Dekim Barton tried to kill him, was to have Wufei pointing a sword at his throat. 'Where does Wufei stand on this matter?' he wondered. After much convincing on Trowa's part that he would be a loyal soldier he was allowed a mobile suit and a chance to fight along with Wufei. 'I wonder how much of this is Wufei's doing?'

Wufei was more than certain that Trowa wasn't a true believer of the cause. He knew better than to ask the boy directly, for fear he would hear the truth. But as he convinced Dekim that Trowa would be a great fighting asset to the cause, he hoped deep down the boy would see the light and truly join. If not, then it was a chance to be around Trowa again.

Wufei watched Trowa run a system check on his mobile suit. He spent quite a bit of his time watching the boy by day and dreaming about him at night. He couldn't, no, wouldn't let anything happen between them. Not if they were going to be on opposing sides.

When Wufei realized that he and Trowa were battling Heero and Duo in mobile suits, Wufei was of conflicted emotions. He really didn't want to be on the opposing side of people he considered comrades, but did they really know what they were up against? "Are you in the right?" Wufei challenged Heero. He hoped it would be an interesting duel, one that would fulfill the failure he felt battling Treize. He decided he could leave Trowa to deal with Duo.

There was so little that had any meaning to Wufei. The ongoing battle with Treize and his conscious. Knowing he had nothing in his life but battles. There was a time when he foolishly hoped for Trowa to be in his life. But he had been the one to walk away like a whipped puppy because of a few words from Quatre. They never talked about his walking away, not that there was much time for such idle chit chat. There was a regime to install.

Leave it to Yuy to make sense at a time when nothing made sense to Wufei. 'Yes, Treize was gone.' Wufei felt sadness as he watched Wing Zero plummet into the ocean. 'What the hell is wrong with me? How could I think history wouldn't repeat itself?'

As the people stood up against Mariemaia regime in favor of the gundams, Wufei was both surprised and elated. 'At last the people are fighting for their own peace and I no longer have to.' Not far down the street he saw the gundams of Duo, Quatre and Trowa. 'I wonder if they are in as much amazement as I am.' He started to ask them via the radio when he decided it was probably better not to say anything.

The offer to destroy the gundams together was made by Duo via videophone not long after the end of the Mariemaia coup.

"Come on Wu, we found a nice meadow to take out Sandrock, Heavyarms and Deathscythe Hell," Duo coaxed.

"Will Quatre and Trowa be there?'

"Of course. The more the merrier, I say," Duo laughed.

"What about Yuy?"

"Ah, you know Heero, never wanting to be part of the crowd."

"Hai," Wufei agreed before saying, "I'm not much for crowds either. I will take care of Altlong on my own."

"If you're sure ..." Duo began.

Wufei, while pretending to look at Duo's face on the monitor, was instead watching the tall, quiet boy in the background. Trowa was pretending to casually read a magazine, but his eyes kept wandering to Duo's monitor to watch Wufei.

"I'm sure, Maxwell," huffed the Chinese boy, never taking his eyes off the green eyed boy.

"Do you want to say hi to any of the guys here? Trowa and Quatre are nearby." Duo asked. 'What is he staring at? Is there something sticking out of my hair?'

Wufei considered this. There were lots of things left unsaid to Trowa that he wanted to say. If he thought the two of them could sit and talk like they used to, he would be all for it. But seeing Quatre coming into the monitor shot, effectively blocking Trowa from the screen decided the fate. Besides in those brief moments staring at each other, he felt they had said volumes to each other.

"No, I don't think so. I should go and prepare for Nataku's final rest."

End Part Three

Sorry about wimping out at the end. I really wanted to get these two together, but just couldn't. Especially when borrowing from Endless Waltz, they are together briefly at the beginning then they remain on separate paths the rest of the movie.
