Part Ten

Hilde ran her hand along her racer. She'd already completed her pre-race ritual, and they were getting ready to head to the starting grid. She smiled as she remembered how happy Duo had seemed the night before when she'd talked with him. Although he'd interrupted her and Relena's conversation, just one look into those sparkling violet eyes had made her forgive him before she could even be angry about it. She looked over at her team owner, taking in the other girl appreciatively. Relena had been dressing more casually over the past few weeks, and Hilde found it very attractive. The other blonde had on a pair of jeans again, but this time a blazer was over the tee shirt that was tucked in. When Hilde's eyes met with inquiring blue ones, she blushed a little at her own forwardness. Seeing Relena smile at her warmly offset the embarrassment though, and she decided to walk over to the other girl for a final bit of encouragement.

"You'll do fine," Relena said knowingly.

Hilde sighed. "I know. Guess I just needed to hear it again."

"You've been racing well all season. I know you want to win, but really, you've proven yourself as one of the most talented drivers on the circuit, Hilde."

"Yeah, but I want to be the best," Hilde replied with a frown.

Relena leaned forward, kissing her lightly on the cheek. "No matter where you place, you're still number one in my book." Her cheeks colored faintly, but her light blue eyes remained locked with dark blue ones.

Hilde's hand lifted to touch her face. "I'll... I'll remember that," she replied, feeling a flutter inside at the thought that Relena had just kissed her. Relena had kissed her! Oh, it was something that could have appeared innocent to everyone else, but they both knew it meant more.

"Now get going... and make sure to bump-n-grind Heero for me. Can't let Maxwell have all the fun, now can we?" Relena winked.

Hilde laughed and mock saluted. "Yes, ma'am!"

Relena giggled as the other girl turned and sauntered away. Her heart was lighter than it had been in a long time. The talk she'd had with Hilde just the night before had helped her accept who she was finally, and it gave her confidence like she'd never known before. In fact, maybe a kiss like that should be added to Hilde's ritual for every race.

"Hey, Heero, can you come here for a sec?"

Heero looked over to see his lead mechanic motion towards the garage. He frowned, wondering what Duo wanted. It was almost time to get the car to the track. He walked into the darkened interior -- only to be grabbed and pulled into a side room.

"Duo... what are you...?"

A wicked gleam lit up those violet eyes as the boy in question settled down on his knees in front of Heero. "I think that you need a little stress relief before race time," he almost purred, undoing Heero's zipper.

"Duo..." Heero began, his face flushing at the idea. "We can't... not here... Duo..." His pleas went unanswered as hands delved inside his open jumpsuit to find his underwear beneath.

"Now, now, now. You must listen to your mechanic," Duo replied, as his hand slipped into Heero's boxers, maneuvering Heero's erection out of them. "Driving under such tension is not good for you."

Heero moaned as that teasing hand began to stroke him. "I can't... believe... you're doing... this..."

Duo grinned. "Oh, baby. It's about to get even better."

Before Heero could respond to that, wet heat enveloped his arousal. "Ahhh!"

Duo pulled back. "Hey, try to keep it down, huh? We don't want everyone to know what we're doing."

Heero couldn't answer because Duo chose that moment to take him back into his mouth. The braided boy sucked and licked Heero's erection, savoring the unique taste. Heero's hand fell down to the head at his groin, his fingers burying themselves in chestnut hair. Duo began sucking in earnest, his pace increasing, his tongue licking underneath Heero's shaft steadily, as Heero thrust his hips desperately.

"Duo... I'm going to... oh yeah..." Heero bit down on his lip to keep the cry from escaping him as he came, his seed pulsing into Duo's awaiting mouth. This was the first time Duo had done this to him, and it was incredible. He felt his legs go weak as the pleasure flowed through him.

Duo pulled away from the shaking boy with a parting lick, a huge grin on his face. "Couldn't be irresponsible in my duties to 'get you ready'. Now, I think you're in proper racing condition."

Heero glared down at him. "If I can still drive. I don't even know if I can walk right now."

Duo laughed as he took a clean shop rag and wiped Heero off. He then carefully tucked the driver back inside his clothes and zipped him back up, letting his hand linger over Heero's groin for a moment. He then got to his feet and leaned forward to kiss Heero thoroughly, the other boy tasting himself as Duo's tongue slipped inside his mouth. They kissed for a minute or two, both enjoying the newness of their relationship, until the sound of the announcer's voices over the speakers brought them back to reality.

"Have fun today," Duo said huskily when he pulled away, "but be careful."

Heero nodded, giving the braided mechanic another quick kiss. "I will."

"You'd better," Duo growled, his tone holding an edge in spite of the playful words, "or I'll make you sleep in your own bed tonight instead of with me in mine."

Before Heero could reply, Duo turned and walked away. He felt his heart speed up at the thought of actually sleeping with the other boy. They hadn't shared a bed yet, but if Duo's words were any indication, they would be. Smiling slightly at the promise, and the impromptu sexual interlude, Heero emerged from the garage, ready to take on the challenge of Talladega.

Zechs made a fast lap, smiling as his time improved even more over Yuy's. He was in the lead, and so long as he had a good final pit, would win Talladega. He thought about how much this would help his standings in the championship. Even though he was angry with Treize, he was still a professional, wanting to do well for his team. Just because Treize was an asshole, didn't mean the rest of the people working for him needed to suffer. Zechs frowned; he just wished he could work for someone else.

The blond suddenly felt a jolt to the car. He knew he hadn't been nudged since there wasn't anyone near him. He looked down to see his speed decreasing. "Shit!"

"Zechs, what's wrong?" came Treize's voice over the comm.

"I've lost some power. Make sure the guys are ready to check it out when I pit," he replied casually.

"Come on in. We need to find out what's wrong."

Zechs bristled. "I only have one more lap until my scheduled pit. I think I can make it..."

"Pit now."

"Damn it, Treize!" Anger filled Zechs' voice. "I'm in the lead. Do you want to throw that away just to be able to prove your authority?"

"Don't make me repeat myself again, Zechs."

Zechs cursed as he sped around the track toward pit row. He pulled into his area, but instead of remaining in the car like he should have, he yanked off his helmet, undid the safety net, and slid out of the window.

"What are you doing?" Treize asked, his voice barely concealing his upset.

"You listen to me, Treize," Zechs began, "You may be the team owner, but I'm your fucking driver! I know my car, and I know what I'm capable of. Don't you ever force me to pit again!"

Treize's eyes narrowed. "I am the owner of this car, and you will do what I say, Merquise."

Zechs stepped closer to him, getting right in his face. "I may drive your car, but I race for myself, you arrogant son-of-a-bitch! If you don't like the way I drive then I'll be glad to go elsewhere, but don't act like you own me, because you sure as hell don't!"

With a final glare, Zechs turned and stalked back to the car, climbing back inside quickly. When he got the go-ahead from the mechanics, he sped away to rejoin the race, knowing that Heero Yuy would win this one because his stop had taken so long. At this point, he didn't care. He made his mind up then and there to get away from Treize no matter what it cost him. He was a good driver. There had to be another place for him. Even as he got back up to speed, he couldn't help the nagging pain in his heart that he would never be anything but an outcast.

"I wonder what was wrong with Zechs' car," Heero muttered as he saw the blond re-enter the track.

"I don't know," Duo replied over the comm, "but he actually got out of the racer and got in Treize's personal space. I have a feeling there's trouble in paradise."

Heero frowned. "I've noticed a lot of tension between those two lately. You think their relationship has ended?" He wondered how he'd act if he and Duo ever split up, but pushed that thought away almost violently. They wouldn't split up; he'd make sure of it.

"I don't know. I never understood what Zechs saw in Treize anyway."

"Duo, cut the chatter. Heero needs to focus," Howard broke in.

Duo snorted. "Yes, Oji. Over and out."

Heero smiled. Duo had taken to calling Howard that ever since the 'bus incident'. The braided boy had made it a point to leave off the 'san'; a teasing insult Howard knew held much affection. Heero was glad Duo had Howard. He and Duo had shared bits of their background over the past couple of days. He'd told Duo about his parents, and Duo had told him about his adoptive family. It had really given Heero some insight, making him feel closer to Duo. Although, the two times they'd had sexual experiences had been amazing, Heero didn't want the other boy to think that was all he wanted, even though he was certainly looking forward to when they actually had intercourse. He was sure Duo felt the same way.

The Japanese driver took a deep breath, trying to get his attention back on the track. He suddenly felt a bump and looked in his rear-view to see Hilde's car tapping him. Smirking, he took the corner, making sure to keep her from passing. Duo had told him how happy Hilde was for them, and Heero was relieved that she wasn't upset. He knew how much Duo cared about her. Of course, this was a different matter...

"I don't think so, Hil," he whispered, smiling in spite of himself as he imagined her cursing behind him. He was sure he'd be hearing about it after the race during dinner at wherever Duo decided to take them. With a renewed determination, Heero forced himself to concentrate on the business at hand.

"We won!" Quatre yelled happily, throwing his arms around Trowa enthusiastically.

"Yes, we did," the taller boy agreed, smiling at the contact before Quatre pulled away to grab hold of Wufei, who endured the embrace stoically.

Quatre beamed at the two mechanics. "This track is one of the most difficult ones. I was worried Heero would have trouble. I'm so pleased!"

"Well, you gotta have faith in 'Ro," Duo drawled, leading the driver in question over to the rest of the crew. "I knew he'd do it all along."

Heero snorted. "Sure. That's why you told me on lap thirty-seven to get my ass in gear and quit thinking about yours?"

Quatre's eyes widened. "Duo... you didn't?" He'd noticed Heero taking Duo's teasing better, but still...

Duo grinned. "He was allowing his distracted thoughts to interfere with his job."

"Duo, I can multi-task just fine, thank you," Heero replied, smirking slightly, completely surprising the rest of the pit crew. No one knew of his and Duo's relationship yet, and Heero was determined to enjoy shocking them until they figured it out.

Duo laughed. "Yeah, yeah, I know." He looked at the others. "Ready to get to Bob's Bar-b?"

"Duo, where do you find all of these places?" Quatre asked, wonder apparent in his voice.

"Are you kidding?" Duo replied with mock indignation. "Howard and I know all of the best bars and eating establishments on the circuit. It's almost as important as the racing." He winked at the blond.

Heero watched as the crew began putting everything up for the night. He turned and was met with the sight of Zechs Merquise leaning against the outside of his team's garage area by himself, looking lost. It pulled at him for some reason, and before he could stop himself, he was walking over to him.

"Merquise," he greeted as he approached.

"Good race, Yuy," Zechs said, reaching out his hand to Heero.

Heero shook it. "You would have beaten me, though, if your car hadn't had problems," he admitted.

Zechs smiled faintly. "Maybe."

"We're going to some barbeque place. You want to join us?" Heero couldn't believe he was asking, but something was telling him that this was the right thing to do.

Zechs gave him a surprised look then snorted. "I don't think the rest of your party would appreciate it. Thanks all the same."

Heero frowned. "I'm the one asking you to come. I don't give a damn what the others think about it."

Zechs' eyes widened. "Why?"

Heero shrugged. "I don't know," he said in honesty, "but regardless of the reason, it's better than you being alone, right?"

Zechs seemed to consider it for a moment before he smiled, a little of the ice in his blue eyes thawing. "I guess," he agreed, "and I do like chicken on the bar-b."

Heero gave him a small smile before motioning for the other man to follow him over to where everyone else was waiting. The Japanese driver chose to ignore the various looks of shock, anger, and downright malice that were directed at the new addition to their group. Making a note to ask Duo what the hell was going on, Heero followed the others as they made their way to Bob's.

"I thought you'd be wining and dining with Treize," Noin's voice cut through the other conversations at the table, bitterness evident in her tone.

Zechs sighed internally. Although they'd made it through dinner without anyone speaking to him directly, save Heero, he'd known after the meal was over that there would be tension. He looked back at the woman a few seats down from him.

"I do not care for Treize's company anymore," he replied evenly.

"Really? Wouldn't have thought you'd ever get tired of being his pretty boy," Duo mumbled.

Heero tensed at the comment and looked at his lover to see disapproval shining in those violet eyes. It suddenly made him very angry. What was this all about? "And I never thought that you'd judge someone before finding out their side of the story, Duo," he grated out.

Duo was furious in a split second. He hadn't understood why Heero had invited Zechs in the first place. It wasn't as if the two men had even been friends, and that was what was bothering Duo. Jealousy filled him. His and Heero's relationship was still in the tentative stages, and he was afraid that Heero would find someone else. Zechs was certainly someone Heero might go for -- good looking, sexy...

And another driver -- something that Duo could never be. It twisted in his heart, along with an irrational hurt that he'd tried to bury long ago. It all came to the surface before he could stop it.

"And you know the other side of the story, Yuy?" Duo spat harshly. "You don't know a fucking thing! Ask Noin; she'll tell you how Zechs betrayed her by whoring himself for his career. Ask Treize's wife, Anne; she'll tell you how her husband bedded his fuck toy as soon as the team contracts were signed..."

"Enough, Maxwell!" Wufei cried out, standing at the end of the table, shaking as he tried to control his own anger. "Heero is right. You have no right to judge. Everyone makes mistakes, but the past is the past." Wufei walked around the table, stopping in front of the surprised blond driver. "I can't say that I forgive you yet, but I will not dishonor you either by bringing up your failures."

Zechs looked up into burning kohl. "I'm sorry, Fei. I'm so sorry. Please... let me try to..."

Wufei closed his eyes. "I will... consider it," he replied softly.

"I'm sorry for the things I've done," Zechs said to the table at large, "but like Wufei said, they are in the past. Anne and I have already spoken, and she has forgiven me. I hope... one day, all of you can too."

Noin looked at Wufei. She saw something of her own feelings mirrored in his eyes and said, "I'll try."

Zechs let out the breath he hadn't known he was holding. "That's all I can ask," he told her.

Wufei nodded before turning his eyes to Duo. "What about you, Maxwell? Isn't it time to end this?"

Duo looked at Heero, seeing an expectant look on the other boy's face, and balked. He gave Wufei a hard look before his eyes landed on Zechs. "I have my own reasons for how I feel, Zechs, and although I've tried to be civil, nothing can ever make up for what you did, accident or not. My brother is dead, and no amount of forgiveness can undo that!" he choked out before getting up to stalk out of the restaurant.

Heero gave Zechs a questioning look. "What is he talking about?"

Zechs closed his eyes, remembering. "I caused the crash that left the oil on the track that day."

Silence fell, everyone waiting to see how Heero would react. They were all surprised when he laid a comforting hand on the blond's shoulder. "It wasn't your fault. Things happen. He needs to let this go."

Zechs gave Heero a searching look. "Maybe you can help him?"

The Japanese boy sighed. "I can try," he said before getting up and leaving to go after the other boy.

"Well, who wants dessert?" Hilde interjected after a few awkward moments. Everyone took it for the distraction it was meant to be and decided a little chocolate couldn't hurt.

No one noticed Relena looking at the blond at the end of the table with regret. No one but Zechs.

Duo turned on the CD player, cranking the volume up to a deafening level as he began pounding on the removed bumper. His anger had lessened some, but he had sought the sanctuary of the garage. It had been a little over an hour since his sudden departure from dinner, and his mind was painting all kinds of gut-clenching scenarios involving Heero and Zechs together, even though his heart knew better. The song playing in the background just seemed to fit his mood perfectly.

//It's no secret that the stars are falling from the sky
It's no secret that our world is in darkness tonight
They say the sun is sometimes eclipsed by the moon
Y'know I don't see you when she walks in the room
It's no secret that a friend is someone who lets you help
It's no secret that a liar won't believe anyone else
They say a secret is something you tell one other person
So I'm telling you, child
Love, we shine like a
Burning star
We're fallin' from
The sky... tonight
A man will beg
A man will crawl
On the sheer face of love
Like a fly on the wall
It's no secret at all//

Duo hadn't meant to say those things to Zechs. He knew deep down inside that it really wasn't the driver's fault for what had happened that day. Zechs had tried to take another car on a corner, something most drivers would have attempted. The result was the wreck that had cost his brother his life, but in reality, that had been Solo's doing, not Zechs'. Duo sighed to himself, knowing he was going to have to apologize to the blond. It was stupid, and he knew his jealousy had been the main cause of him letting the anger he'd felt towards Zechs all this time finally explode into something more.

//It's no secret that a conscience can sometimes be a pest
It's no secret ambition bites the nails of success
Every artist is a cannibal, every poet is a thief
All kill their inspiration and sing about the grief... for love
Love, we shine like a
Burning star
We're fallin' from
The sky... tonight
A man will rise
A man will fall
From the sheer face of love
Like a fly from the wall
It's no secret at all//

"Sometimes I am such a jerk," he said out loud, throwing his hammer to the floor.

"Yes, but I happen to care for that jerk, so I guess that means you're forgiven," Heero's voice said as he turned down the music.

Duo spun around, so involved in his thoughts and the song that he hadn't noticed his lover enter the garage. "Yuy! You scared the shit out of me!" He felt some of his earlier aggravation return.

Heero took the moment to try to make things right. "I'm sorry... for everything"

Duo turned away abruptly, trying to shrug it off. "Don't worry about it. It's my problem, not yours."

Heero walked up to stand behind him, sliding his arms around Duo's waist as he buried his face in Duo's hair. He couldn't lose this, not when he'd just found it. "If it's your problem then it's my problem."

Duo wanted to give into the comfort those arms were offering, but his pride wouldn't let go. "Forget it."

Heero tightened his grip. He started to argue, then smirked as his mind gave him another solution. "All right. Why don't we both forget it?"

Duo didn't have a chance to answer before he felt Heero undo his jeans, slipping a curious hand inside. He groaned as his pants and boxers were pulled down his hips, leaving him exposed to the cool night air. He felt Heero moving behind him and then velvet hardness rubbed against his bare skin.

"Heero..." All of his anger just disappeared, replaced with need.

Heero grasped Duo's erection, rocking his own arousal against the muscled softness of Duo's ass. "You told me once that you'd rather fuck Wing than me. How about both of us at the same time?"

Duo cried out as the tip of his shaft was rubbed against the metal of the car, his leaking fluid streaking the paint. It was the most erotic thing he'd ever felt. The very idea of it aroused him until he was so hard he hurt. He felt Heero spread his cheeks apart, moving between them so his erection teased Duo's convulsing entrance. Duo couldn't believe they were doing this.

"Heero!"

"Let go, Duo," Heero panted in his ear, already close from the kinkiness of the act.

Duo thrust himself into Heero's hand and against the racer, the warmth of skin and coolness of steel an unbelievably intoxicating combination. Heero suddenly yelled, body tensing as the wet heat of his seed released against Duo's opening. The braided boy cried out as his essence sprayed the quarter panel, his orgasm shaking him almost violently. It took a moment for both boys to regain their breath. Duo then turned around and gave his lover a wide grin.

"Damn, 'Ro. You sure have a way of making up!"

Heero leaned over and kissed the other boy passionately. "Your turn to apologize," he whispered as he pulled away, letting his hand caress Duo's ass suggestively.

Duo laughed as he his eyes glinted with mischief. Heero had no doubt the apology would be thorough.
