Heero scowled down at the front of his shirt, each end of his tie in either hand. That green tank top was far easier than this. Right over left, under and over, tuck, something? Damn. First day on the job with Preventers and he couldn't even tie his tie!
He pursed his lips and tried again, trying to remember the pattern Quatre had relayed to him over the phone - something called a Windsor knot. With his second attempt a knot formed, but something didn't look right about it. He gave the end an experimental tug and cursed aloud when the thing unraveled before his eyes. Why did this stupid task seem to elude him?
Heero saw arms wrap around his shoulders before he felt his breath against the back of his neck. Stilled by surprised, Heero watched as Duo took either ends of the tie out of his hands.
"I can only do it from this direction," Duo said against his hair, just behind his ear. It sent a shiver down Heero's body, the fine hairs of his bare legs rising in response. His arms lingered just below Duo's, elbows still bent from the sudden removal of their task. He gave a glance over his shoulder, mildly surprised and a little touched at Duo's intervention, before he looked forward again and down at the show right below his chin. With quick, knowledgeable fingers, Duo wrapped the tie around itself to form a perfect knot right at the apex of his shirt collar. Duo's fingers lingered at the knot, straightening the tie. Something cold brushed Heero's hip through the fabric of his boxer-briefs and he glanced down to see the belt-buckle of Duo's unbuckled pants dangling off to his side. He realized then he hadn't seen what boxers Duo had chosen to wear today - it was usually something laden with cartoon images and goofy pictures and since they'd moved in together a month ago, he'd never missed a day to note what silly design his odd lover had selected. His odd and very beautiful and very loving lover.
"There you go," Duo said and then placed a light kiss on the curved shell of his ear. Heero turned around and watched Duo walk away, back to the bathroom, buckling and zipping his slacks as he went. Heero's lips quirked as he caught a very brief glimpse of a big yellow smiley face before Duo had yanked his slacks securely into place.
Turning back to the chair before him, Heero slipped his own slacks out from under his Preventer's jacket that hung over the chair-back, his lips quirking even more. He'd loved that - the pure, easy, familiar domesticity between them. His chest felt warm as a smile fully curled the corners of his lips. He shook open his slacks and paused for a moment, looking down, just under his chin.
He hoped he never learned how to tie his tie.
