Notes: For Misuzu's b-day (I've tried to work on this fic before, but it never worked). [song 'Adam's Song' by Blink182]
I never thought I'd die alone
I laughed the loudest who'd have known?
[Scene opens to a shot (from above) of Duo laying on his bed, eyes dull, blood trickling from wounds on his arms, obviously self-inflicted. The camera zooms in a flurry of motion to his face as an ironic, sad smile crosses parched lips, then fades out.]
I trace the cord back to the wall
No wonder it was never plugged in at all
[Fade in. Shot of Heero sitting at his laptop looking very irritated. He hits the on switch and nothing happenes. He tries it again, then moves to check the connections, finding the cord unplugged. He smirks, this is one of Duo's favorite jokes.]
I took my time, I hurried up
[Heero sits back down and boots up the computer. Once loaded a message alert flashes at him. He stares at the message, eyes wide and face tight in.... pain? Fear?
He slams the computer closed, headless of the warning beeps (1). Grabbing his coat he runs out the door. Fade out.]
The choice was mine I didn't think enough
I'm too depressed to go on
You'll be sorry when I'm gone
[Open to Duo's apartement. The boy is looking paler than last this scene was visited, his slit wrists are crusted in dried brown/black blood and tears trickle down his hollow cheeks. He reaches up for the glinting knife he'd layed aside, sensing his first try was unsucessful (obviously due to the dried blood and his current state of living). He stares at the knife dispassionately....]
I never conquered, rarely came
16 just held such better days
Days when I still felt alive
We couldn't wait to get outside
The world was wide, too late to try
[*flashback*Scene: G-boys in a field, picnicking during a break in the war.
Duo is grinning madly, trying to tease Heero into reaction. But Heero just ignores him, causing Shinigami to pout (cutely, might I add). Determined not to let Heero ruin his day, Duo stands and decides to take a run through the field.
Exhausted, Duo falls back against the soft grasses, gazing up at the expansive sky. Fade out as Duo's violet eyes glitter, smiling.]
The tour was over we'd survived
I couldn't wait till I got home
To pass the time in my room alone
[Fade in. Scene: End of the war. Peace party, X-mas AC195.Duo sags against the railing, looking around as the other pilots climb from their Gundams. He smiles and walks over to Heero. Before he reaches the Wing pilot, the blonde menace pulls his (Heero's) arm around her shoulder and drags him away. Duo sighs defeatedly and trudges off to his room.
*end flashback* Fade out.]
I never thought I'd die alone
Another six months I'll be unknown
[Fade in. Scene: Duo, bedroom. Present. (Just after New Years, January AC196).
Tears splash on the cold, glinting metal of the blade as Duo presses it to his wrist once more.]
Give all my things to all my friends
You'll never set foot in my room again
You'll close it off, board it up
Remember the time that I spilled the cup
Of apple juice in the hall
[*flashback*Scene: One of Quatre's mansions.
Duo looks down in dismay at the mess he has made of an expensive Prussian carpet. He looks at Quatre as the boy enters the room. Duo's face is turned down in a frown and his violet eyes are pleading for forgiveness. Quatre just smiles at him and goes to get some clean up materials. Both boys laugh together as they clean the mess and throw away the broken glass.
Duo smiles as Quatre leaves (going back to Trowa, no doubt), happy to have friends like him. Fade out.]
Please tell mom this is not her fault
I never conquered, rarely came
16 just held such better days
[Fade in. Scene: Safehouse.Duo is sitting in a worn easy chair, lounging really. Suddenly, Quatre pops up beside him and drags him off to the kitchen. He puts his hands over Duo's eyes and pushes him into the kitchen. Inside the hands are removed and Duo is surprised with a party.
The other pilots watch as tears fill violet eyes. Startled, Quatre rushes over to Duo, but is pushed away as Duo rubs his eyes and smiles warmly at them, explaining he'd never had a birthday party.
*end flashback* Fade out.]
Days when I still felt alive
We couldn't wait to get outside
The world was wide, too late to try
The tour was over we'd survived
I couldn't wait till I got home
To pass the time in my room alone
[Fade in. Scene: Heero running through city streets, dodging people left and right. His face is strained and there is a fire in his eyes usually reserved for battle. Fade out.]
I never conquered, rarely came
But tomorrow holds such better days
[Sudden entrance of vid-feed. The door in Duo's appartement bursts open and Heero rushes to knock the knife from the boy's hand. He grabs the startled boy's shoulders and shakes him slightly.
Duo's eyes fill and run over with tears and he sags against Heero's chest, sobbing. Heero just holds Duo to him and strokes said boy's back placatingly. Fade out.]
Days when I can still feel alive
When I can't wait to get outside
The world is wide, the time goes by
The tour is over, I've survived
[Fade in. Scene: Sometime later, a grassy knoll.
Duo is leaning against Heero's shoulder and Heero's arm is around the aforementioned boy's shoulders. They just sit quietly together, watching the world go by. Duo has become more tame, quiet and Heero has become more open and talkative, but they are still content to just sit in silence together. The scene fades as the sun sets behind the rolling green hills.]
I can't wait till I get home
To pass the time in my room alone
[White on black text.... it reads: Owari.]
