For Solitude1056: This is for Sol and anyone else who had a 'bad day' today and needed a little 'pick me up' *huggles*
Duo threw his jacket as he came through the door. It had been an absolutely horribly rotten bad day, and all he wanted right then and there was his cotton pajama bottoms, a Mike's Hard Cola, and a bag of Doritos. He could hear movement in the kitchen, but he shut it out as he made his way to his bedroom to change. Heero was making something disgustingly healthy, no doubt, and Duo didn't want to have anything to do with it in the mood he was in. His partner had been off today, and that alone made Duo want to smack him just on principle.
A few moments later, he sighed in comfort as he padded barefoot back into the living room. He'd had a headache all day so no television for the evening. He'd taken his hair down to see if it would help, and the long chestnut strands billowed around him as he walked into the kitchen, intent on getting that hard cola and bag of chips to retreat back into his room to sulk and basically have a nice little pity party for himself. When he came through the door, though, he stopped in shock at the sight before him.
On the table was one of Duo's favorite meals fried chicken, mashed potatoes, cornbread, green beans, and sweet potatoes. He shook his head, thinking he had to be hallucinating, before turning his astonished eyes back to his roommate. Heero stood there, a hesitant look on his face, and he was shifting almost restlessly as he divided his attention between Duo and the table. If it had been anyone else, Duo would have thought him to be nervous.
"Wufei called and said you'd had a really bad day. I remembered how you made me that sushi the other week when I'd gotten so upset at work, so I thought I'd return the favor and make something to help you feel better."
Duo stared at his best friend for a few moments and then stalked over to him. Before Heero knew what was going on, Duo had him in a tight hug. "Thank you," he breathed, unable to care that he was probably violating Heero's personal space a hundred different ways at the moment. "This day has majorly sucked. My early appointment cancelled on me without letting me know so I drove across town for nothing this morning, the DNA report came back inconclusive so we still don't have a lead on the case, and the damn alternator went out on the car so I had to get a cab ride home "
Strong arms wrapped around him, surprising him with the comfort they offered. He sunk into it and thought that it was much better than a hard cola. He sighed as he felt nimble fingers massage the back of his head right where the headache was. If he'd been a cat, he would have been purring and rubbing himself all over Heero. As it was, he was practically plastered against the other boy, but he couldn't even feel guilty about it.
"Sit down and eat before the food gets cold. This stuff isn't as easy to make as salad."
Duo laughed. It felt like it had been forever since he'd done that. He pulled away and gave the other boy a satisfied look. "You know, Yuy, if I knew I could get away with it without you killing me, I'd kiss you right now so long and hard that your grandchildren would remember it."
Heero blinked at him in obvious confusion. "Why would I kill you?"
The longhaired boy snorted. "Because it would be exhibiting inappropriate behavior? Invading undefined comfort zones? Crossing the line between 'best friend-guy stuff' and 'best friend-lover stuff'? Does any of this ring a bell?"
"Will it make you feel better?" Heero asked, his voice holding a tone Duo had never heard before anticipation?
"Yes," Duo answered honestly, not even realizing what that would imply. He didn't have time to think about it either before Heero began leaning towards him.
"Good," the Japanese boy replied softly, as he took his lips in a firm yet gentle kiss.
Duo's mind shut down. There was no meeting, no report, and no car. Nothing mattered except for the delightful feeling of Heero's mouth on his own, the warmth of Heero's body touching him. Duo responded with abandon, his hands sliding up and down Heero's tee-shirt covered back, even as Heero's hands cupped his face and caressed his hair. The former Deathscythe pilot almost whimpered as Heero stroked his cheek with one of the thumbs resting against his skin. He felt his heart skip a beat when the other boy's tongue tentatively pressed against his lips, his mouth opening to allow the exploration, even as his own tongue flicked out to tangle with its counterpart. It was incredible amazing unlike anything he'd ever experienced.
It was the cure for a bad day.
When they separated, both boys were flushed and panting. Duo had a grin on his face that rivaled the one he'd worn when he'd put magenta hair color in Wufei's shampoo that one time. Heero's eyes were bright with desire, and Duo thought the Japanese boy had never looked so attractive. He leaned back in and kissed Heero's nose, taking him by surprise by the endearing gesture.
"Dessert later, Heero," he quipped, "I'd prefer to enjoy it in my room instead of the kitchen, if you don't mind."
The former Wing pilot actually blushed. "I made strawberry shortcake "
Duo chuckled, feeling the remains of his bad mood drift away completely. "Oh, don't worry. I won't let something so good go to waste." His violet eyes met Heero's, and he knew the other boy had understood his meaning when Heero gave him a shy but pleased smile.
Dinner was good. Dessert was better.
As Duo lay wrapped in Heero's arms, sticky with whipped cream and spent passion, he decided that bad days would never be quite so bad again.
The End
