Just a little sketch of what she feels at Treize's grave

Mariemeia's Story by Mobiusklein

I looked down at the grave of the man they say was my father, Treize Khushrenada. The strange thing is that I don't feel anything. I guess that could be expected since I never knew him. I had always thought someone else was my father.

I looked up at Lady Ann. I don't understand why she took me in, but I can tell from her sad face that she loved the man who was my father very much. Perhaps, she took me in because she wanted in some small way a piece of him.

"I wonder if people will hate me for what I did."

She shook her head. "They should understand it was your grandfather's doing. You were his pawn. I will make them understand."

"I have no memories of him and I've heard so many different things about him. Some people are fiercely loyal to him while others shake their heads and scowl at his name." Before I met her, I only knew what my grandfather had told me, but later I found out that he didn't always tell the truth. I ask her because I think she was the closest person to him and knew what was in his heart.

"Your father was a great man," she tells me. "He was a man who commanded my respect. He had a vision for Earth and for the colonies. He was a man of ideals who fought and died for them."

"But what about what other people say?"

"Other people will say what they will. But for me, it's important that you know the truth about him, the way I see him. As long as you know and this world is at peace, that's all that matters."

I looked at the almost limitless number of graves that surrounded us. The black markers dotted the plain. It seemed fitting that he should be surrounded by the graves of the men who had followed him.

The End
