King Zechs Marquise was reading in the shelter located deep in the forest during a thunderstorm. A five-year-old prince and a four-year-old princess were sleeping in peace.
"Knock, knock!"
"Who's there?" King Zechs stood up and walked over to the door. When he opened the wooden door, he found a person wearing a cloak cradling a baby. The mysterious figure was also holding onto a boy with a ponytail.
"Please take care of Meiran..." the figure shoved the baby into the king's arm and took off with the tiny boy. King Zechs stared into the darkness and silently went back inside.
"It's really late... We should get some rest..." Zechs placed the baby in a wooden crib and fell asleep. A pair of cobalt blue eyes fluttered open as he slowly walked over to the crib and gazed at the baby. The prince leaned down and kissed the baby's brows and whispered, "I'll always protect you."
Up on the mountaintop, the boy stood next to the cloaked figure. He opened his palm and a feather flew into the dark night. "I'll come back for you... Nataku..."
Seven years later.
"Meiran! Get back here!" Heero shouted. Meiran took off with his horse, Zero. Meiran stuck her tongue out at Heero and let out a maniacal laugh. Zero ran into a branch causing Meiran to fall off. Heero gasped and ran to her side.
"Meiran, you okay?" Heero asked in a worried tone. Then he yelped in pain when Meiran's foot connected with his chin.
"Am Nataku! I never get hurt!" then she scampered off. Heero watched in shock then shook his head and started to laugh. "That wench!" No matter what she does, he couldn't help but loving her more.
"My God! I can't believe Meiran is my sister! She's not acting like a lady at all!" Catherine said. Heero smiled at his sister. //I wonder if she knows that Meiran's not really our sister// Heero shook his head. She couldn't know. She was sleeping when that whole thing took place. Heero wondered about the whereabouts of the cloaked figure and the boy he was with. Could they be dead? No matter. //I will protect Meiran//
Meiran ran into the forest. "Stupid Zero! If it weren't for him, I would have reached the carnival by now," Meiran muttered. She was trying to hang out at the town. Meiran surprised many people. She may only be a seven-year-old but she sure was tough. Suddenly a hooded figure popped out of a bush and jumped on Meiran.
"Ah!" Meiran reacted by kicking at where a nut would be on guys. The figure dropped to the ground whimpering. Meiran started to pounce on the small body.
"Ah! Stop! It's me, Duo! Stop it, I surrender!" Duo cried out as he pulled off the cloak. Meiran glared at him then started to laugh. She couldn't help it. //Duo's too stupid//
"Duo! I told you not to do that to Meiran!" Hilde said as she gave Duo a knuckle sandwich.
"Oww, Hilde! You are no fun!" Duo pouted then he tickled her. Hilde gasped for air and grabbed Duo's braid.
"Not my braid!" Duo protested. Meiran laughed as she watched them wrestle on the ground. Suddenly, she heard some rustling sounds behind the bush. Meiran turned around to see what it was but there was nothing there. //I feel something familiar//
"Meiran! Oi, Nataku! What are you looking at?" Duo asked.
"I thought someone was watching me," Meiran replied.
"Mei, you are paranoid. There is no one around us! Come on, let's head home," Hilde then grabbed Duo's braid and started to drag him toward the castle. Meiran took one last look at the forest and frowned. //I swear, someone was watching me! //
"Meiran! Hurry up!" Duo shouted as he ran off with Hilde. Meiran shrugged. //Maybe I am paranoid//
"Wait for me!" Meiran ran after the gang.
Far away, from the distance, a boy with a ponytail turned around and walked away. //I am not ready yet//
