SOME LAST WORDS: about Companions of Fate, taken from a conversation Laekin and I had on ICQ on 11-21-2000.
Laekin: This... this is sort of my thinking, hun. The more and more I think about it, the more I think that the CoF arc is winding down... after how many stories. :) It's not that I want it to wind down.... but I just have this feeling. We've sort of tied up the villains, the boys are growing and in fact... each of them is growing to a point where... I don't know how Heero and Wufei are *talking* to you but Quatre, Trowa... even Duo are beginning to tell me they're tired of bloodshed. I just feel like I'd be pushing the characters into situations that didn't flow naturally if I kept trying to keep them on their toes... does that make any sense?
bonnejeanne: yes it does. I've had similar experiences with other situations. I've been involved in some very long term role plays over the years, most of them starting off very action-based. The first major one with 4 people was based on comic book super heroes! ; ) and the same thing happened. They saved the world a bunch of times, developed relationships, built lives, and after a while, throwing more "situations" at them started to feel cruel.
Laekin:::Nodnod:: Exactly. I feel like it's time to let the boys live their lives. Now, I think we've still got ground to cover, like T'ien's situation, the whole groups of conversations like Quatre talking to Heero about how he feels, etc... and I want to do something as an epilogue sort of thing... maybe a holiday with everybody together... to wrap things up... but that's just the feeling I have at the moment from the guys. I haven't really said anything because I know us Bonne and I know that some small spur might pop out in the future that will focus their attention... heaven knows it's happened before. ::Grins:: But those were sort of my thoughts, and Heero wanting to protect T'ien, wanting to shield T'ien from seeing him (Heero) forced to kill again... sort of got me thinking along those lines. Have I confused you yet?
bonnejeanne: No I'm following you pretty well, I think. I suspect your instincts are on the mark here. I'm not upset by any of this, it makes sense and sounds quite good, actually. In some of the previous situations I've been in with other people, there was usually one or two in the group who didn't want to give up and accept that the characters and situation had matured naturally and things can get real weird when that happens. I'd rather allow the remainder to develop without forcing something into it that is no longer a good fit.
Laekin:Also, let me make clear here, that even if we tie up CoF, I'd like to continue to role-play with you, as both of us have time. I think we've got a good start on something with Quatre's Addiction and I know you have some projects in the wings that you've been wanting to work on as well. Just to make that clear. :>
bonnejeanne: got it! : )
Laekin:Besides, we've still got a lot of CoF to get through, and hell is there anything in particular you want to explore? I know we sort of opened up the Dorothy/Relena can of words... well.. peeked in the can anyway, there is nothing stopping us from going down tangent roads off our own universe.
bonnejeanne: I hadn't thought too far in that direction so nothing is coming to be apart from what we've already talked about. I'd like Heero & Duo to have that vacation they talked about but that depends a lot on how things go with T'ien. I'd like to see Quatre and Trowa and Wufei settle into some kind of living arrangement that they all feel happy about. I think they deserve that. Beyond that... I dunno. Maybe we owe Sally some way of regaining her equilibrium, but I don't feel super strongly about it.
Laekin:I agree with everything you're saying. After all, Duo owes Heero a bath, and a massage with oil. I think that... and please please please rein me in if you need to... that we get T'ien well, then maybe Wufei would want to spend some time with the little guy? Giving Heero and Duo some time on their own, in Hawaii...?
bonnejeanne: Wufei would be happy to be the kid's uncle so to speak, but he would be very careful not to try and "take over".
Laekin:::snaps fingers:: How's this sound... sort of take care of two birdies with one stone. Have Sally, with perhaps a little help from Lady Une and Relena, have Sally push through the paperwork that sets up Heero/Duo as T'ien's legal guardians?
bonnejeanne: yeah... that's good. I like it.
Laekin:Then Wu-baby can be uncle, Quatre and Trowa honorary uncles... I think that T'ien loves/adores Heero unconditionally, that should never be doubted in Heero's mind but he would be curious about his ancestors and his culture and the history of his clan. Who better to ask then Wufei?
bonnejeanne: yup. makes sense to me.
Laekin:I'm just sort of galloping along here, feel free to trip me up when necessary. :)
bonnejeanne: you're doing fine. I was particularly interested in your thoughts about Quatre which you mentioned earlier, and the conversation with Heero. I think it's possible they might, some or all, take an extended leave from the Preventers... unofficially retire, just be there if really needed, but not get sent on every little mission. I don't know what is going to happen with the clones but I think Wufei will see them as a responsibility. That doesn't mean he'll want to raise em, but he is going to take a major role in what ever does happen. I can even see a slight possibility of him teaching and taking students at some point in his life, it's not much of a stretch or very original, but he does have a lot to teach.. hehe.
Laekin:::Grins:: I agree. I'm still letting it swim in my head but my rough idea thoughts ran along the lines of... with Trowa... I'd really like to see Trowa settled back down at that large wild animal preserve. I think it is work that would challenge Trowa and fulfill him at the same time. Maybe I'm off base, if you have a better thought by all means throw it at me! :) Wufei I could definitely see teaching. I think that would be a great marriage of his scholar background and the master martial artist he's become. Specially with T'ien and the clones, another generation, so to speak, to teach the History of the Chang clan to.
bonnejeanne: Put the wild animal preserve in Asia instead of Africa and you could combine some building needs. How about a wild animal preserve - preserves especially being much needed in central Asia - that also houses something like a camp for kids or something. Kids can come a learn about the animals as well as learn from the master.. heh - yes exactly what I was thinking!!
Laekin:Maybe make it especially open to kids from the colonies. Yeah!! GMTA!!!
bonnejeanne: It would be a major undertaking to handle the administration of such a place and all the things that would be required to have it all function. And it would be a really satisfying legacy to leave.
Laekin:And I'm thinking that Quatre would probably base himself on Earth. I think Marylin Phipps has proven herself capable of seeing to the day to day rig-a-maroll of WEI. He'd continue to support Relena, exactly. He'd continue to support Relena and that sort of thing in his role as Master Winner but he would cut back a lot of the meetings and the general bullshit and stay mostly on Earth with Trowa and Wufei.
bonnejeanne: Sounds very cool to me.
Everyone, thanks for everything.
