Title: Passing Time
Author: KwyckSylver
Disclaimer: Gundam Wing and it's characters do not belong to me. They are the property of Bandai, Sunrise and Sotsu Agency.
This is another short ficlet, the title and the line 'it seemed like a good idea at the time' were suggested to me by Merith.
It's a 1+2
"Why did you help me break out of that hospital?" Heero asked as he did a systems check on his gundam. All in all, things looked good, except for a few shorted circuit boards. He looked up, his eyes only resting on Deathscythe for a split second, before he returned his attention to Wing.
"It seemed like a good idea at the time, especially since I was partly responsible." Duo said as he yawned. "I'm going to turn in for the night. You should too. Besides, that thing isn't going anywhere, not without replacement parts."
"I'll manage," Heero said, turning his back on Duo. The hint that their conversation was at an end was not lost on him.
"Damn, he's a strange one," Duo said, shaking his head as he stepped up on the lift that would take him to the deck of the ship.
He'd be calling him far worse things, come the morning.
"Why did you rescue me from Oz, instead of killing me?" Duo asked after the nurse left his hospital room. He slid out of the bed and walked to the window, sitting on the wide ledge so he could look out over the city.
"It seemed like a good idea at the time," Heero shrugged, picking up his jacket.
"You leaving?" Duo asked, turning his gaze toward Heero.
Heero nodded, "There's a rumor about mobile suit parts being shipped to the moon. I'm going to check it out."
"Want some help?" Duo asked eagerly, he was already starting to feel cooped up. Injuries or no, what he needed was a whole lot of action and the feel of gunmetal in his hands.
"No, you'll just be in my way. Stay here and recouperate, maybe go to school for a while. I've already enrolled using your name, anyway. " He opened the door and turned to say one last thing before he left, "I think the people in the building over there have a pretty good idea what your ass looks like by now."
"Damn it!" Duo jerked to his feet, growling under his breath as he tried to close the back of his hospital gown, "He got me again."
"That sucker punch was beneath you, Yuy," Duo said. Just thinking about it made his stomach hurt all over again.
"It seemed like a good idea at the time," Heero shrugged. "I had to think fast or Trowa's cover would have been blown."
"I know. It's just that, well, you didn't have to hit me so hard. And you could have warned me. I am capable of playing possum."
"True," Heero admitted. "Let me make it up to you." He stood and faced Duo. "I give you permission to hit me as hard as you can."
"I think I've heard that one before," Duo said suspiciously, "I think I'll pass on that offer."
"I'm sincere in this," Heero said, "I promise. I will not lay a hand on you in retribution."
Duo stood, eyeing Heero skeptically as he bunched his hand in a fist and pulled his arm back, preparing to take a punch at Heero. He swung forward but Heero caught his fist and held it with an iron grip. He pulled Duo to his chest and kissed him.
"Why did you kiss me?" Duo whispered. His eyes were wide with wonder and he could feel his knees begin to buckle.
"It seemed like a good idea at the time," Heero said with a smile. And it was.
