This is my second fic. No sexual content but maybe a warning for corny humor and some curse words. **Disclaimer**: I don't owned Gundam Wing or any of its characters, if I did, I'd be sitting on an exotic beach somewhere, sipping on my favorite drink.
If this story in any way resembles one already done, I apologize.
Note: This fic begins a series of stories with the same continuing characters, The Belle of the Ball Arc, or BotB Arc for short.
"Don't even think about asking me to do this," Duo exclaimed.
"You owe me," Heero replied, a serious look on his face.
"You are never going to let me forget I shot you, huh?" asked Duo.
"Not until I think you've made up for it," said Heero.
"But Heero, what you're asking me to do, if anyone ever found out, I'd never live it down." Duo said.
"I wouldn't ask if there was another solution," Heero told him.
"Why do you want to do this anyway?" Duo asked.
"I'm taking your advice and I'm trying to fit in at school," Heero answered. "Now, he listens to me," Duo thought.
"Stop being a wuss and just ask Relena to the dance," Duo snorted.
"You know I can't stand being around her," Heero said.
"I know she's kinda hard to take at times, but it's only for one evening," Duo offered.
"Easy for you to say, you're not the one she keeps following from school to school. I swear if she blows my cover, I really will kill her," Heero said.
"Just ask one of the other girls, then," suggested Duo.
"I tried that already. Relena has put the word out, I'm 'off limits'. I don't know how she always becomes the 'queen' of the popular crowd but the other girls won't cross her if they want to retain their own popularity. I just don't understand all that crap," Heero replied.
"So, Duo, do me this favor and I'll forget you shot me - twice," Heero said.
"I don't know, are you sure no one will find out?" Duo asked.
"I promise, I'll never tell, do you think I want anyone to know, either?" Heero stated.
"I know I'm going to hate myself for this, but remember, I'm only doing it to wipe the slate clean between us and I am doing it under protest," Duo said.
"Duly noted," Heero replied.
Heero then got up and bowed to Duo, from the waste, in a very formal fashion. "Thank you for graciously accepting my invitation to accompany me to the school dance - Duette," Heero teased. Duo rolled his eyes.
"You'd better bring a lot of money with you, Yui. I am going to be one really expensive 'date'."
It was the evening of the dance. Heero had rented a limo as all the other couples would be arriving in one. The driver opened the door on Heero's side and Heero got out, he was wearing a tuxedo that looked as though it was custom made for him, it fit tight in all the right places. He got quite a few admiring glances from the girls and an equal amount of glares from their dates. Heero turned toward the limo door, and extended his hand to help his 'date' get out. A gloved hand reached out for his and a vision of pink loveliness emerged. It was the boy's turn to give admiring looks while their dates nudged them with their elbows, disapprovingly.
Duo's dress was chiffon with a scoop neckline, a matching shawl draped around his shoulders. Satin pumps that matched the pink of the dress were on his feet. The evening bag he carried was also a perfect match. His hair was held up in a diamond tiara with his hair cascading down his back in curls. A matching diamond necklace encircled his throat and he wore an orchid corsage on his wrist. His makeup was perfect, neutral brown shadowed his eyelids, a touch of mascara only enhanced his already dark, long, full eyelashes. His brows were neatly shaped with a touch of pencil. Pale rose color blushed his cheeks and lips. Duo was beautiful.
Heero offered his arm to Duo, who grudgingly accepted it. They walked up the stairs to the school's ballroom. "This is going to be a very long night," Duo observed.
The ballroom was full of couples mingling and talking. Some of the teenagers had already split off into all boy and all girl groups.
"You had better not dump me off with that group of giggling girls," Duo warned Heero. "And you had better stick to me like glue, as I don't like the looks some of those boys are giving me."
"What's the matter, can't you handle them?" Heero asked with amusement.
"Of course I can, but I'm supposed to be a girl, remember? I can't exactly start a fight with them if they start getting fresh," Duo said.
"No, I'd rather you didn't," Heero answered.
"Oh, look, Relena's here!" someone near them said. Everyone turned toward the door. In walked Relena with her escort. Heero recognized him immediately. It was that dumb, blond kid who had tried to defend Relena's 'honor' when Heero had torn up her party invitation.
"I guess the boys at this school aren't good enough for 'her majesty'," Heero observed.
Just then the orchestra started playing a waltz.
"Shall we dance?" asked Heero, extending his arm to Duo.
"Do we have to?" asked Duo.
"At least one," Heero replied. They started to dance the waltz, Heero glided with confident ease. Duo kept stepping on Heero's toes. "Can't you be more graceful?" Heero glared at Duo.
"I'm doing the best I can, Yui, I just learned these dances a few days ago," Duo retorted defensively.Duo thought that waltz would never end. When it finally did, he told Heero, "Let's go get something to drink - please?"
"Alright," said Heero,"My feet could use a break from you stepping all over them."
They were served a glass of punch and Heero drank his down quickly. "I need to be excused for a few minutes," he told Duo.
"Damn, he left me alone," Duo complained.
One boy, who spied Duo from across the room and thought he was the prettiest girl there, walked over to Duo and asked him to dance. "Sure, why not," Duo said unenthusiastically. The boy started talking to Duo as they danced.
"Are you new to this school, I don't remember seeing you before."
"I, ah, go to a different school," Duo said. He also started noticing that the boy wasn't keeping his hands in one place. "My boyfriend just enrolled here, not too long ago, though," Duo told him.
"Oh, who's your boyfriend?" the boy asked. "Heero Yui," Duo replied.
"Heero Yui is your boyfriend?" the boy suddenly felt scared, even though Heero had not been at the school long, he already had a reputation for one not to be trifled with. "He's not going to get upset with me because I asked you to dance, is he?" the boy sounded frightened. Duo chuckled to himself, he was finally having some fun.
"I don't think so but he has gotten jealous before for no reason at all," Duo said, putting emphasis on the last four words. They finished their dance with about two feet of air between them.
Meanwhile, Heero was a couple of miles away, at that new mobile suit factory, planting bombs. "Sorry I had to do this to you Duo. But I had to make sure Relena wouldn't screw up my mission by following me." The bombs were on a timer set to explode about the time the dance would be over with.
Duo was standing near the refreshment table when Relena saw him. "That's the girl that came to the dance with Heero. She looks familiar but from where? I know she didn't go to any of the schools, cause I'd remember HER, especially if she knew Heero." The only way Relena was going to figure out who she was was to go talk to her.
Relena walked up to Duo, "Oh, God," he thought, "She's coming over.""Hello, I'm Relena. Tell me, how did you get so lucky?" Relena asked.
"Lucky? About what?" Duo asked.
"His asking you to the dance. I've known Heero for a while, we've attended the same schools, this is the first dance he's ever attended."
"OH, RELENA!" Duo said loudly, and with emphasis. He suddenly had a very wicked idea. "So you're the one who keeps following my 'fiance' from school to school."
"FIANCE," Relena almost screamed. "Fiance? Since when? Heero never mentioned a fiance," she sputtered.
"Oh, we've been engaged for a couple of years now." Duo said. "Our fathers arranged it, our families are good friends. Heero and I can't wait until we've come of age, so we can marry. We've been in love since we were children." Duo was laying it on very thick. Maybe that would keep Relena off Heero's back. Maybe he had just done Heero the biggest favor of his life and Heero would owe him, for a change.
Relena stormed off, "Just wait Heero," Duo heard her say, "I will find a way to get revenge for the humiliation you've dealt me. Here I've been following you around, like a fool because I thought you liked me but just didn't want to admit it, and here all along, you've had a fiance, and you never said a word." Relena was pissed as hell. And every one around had heard what was said.
"Shit" Duo muttered, "Maybe I laid it on a little too thick." Just then Heero appeared at his side.
"Sorry I took so long," Heero said. "So what's been going on?" "Oh, nothing much," said Duo. "I danced with Mr. Hands over there, until I used your name as a threat. And, uh, Relena thinks we're getting married."
"Relena thinks WHAT?" Heero asked, with a hint of anger in his voice. "How the hell did she get THAT idea?" Heero glowered at Duo.
"I guess I went too far, I'm sorry Heero, I thought I found a way to get her off your back, instead she's declared revenge against you." Duo spoke in a very sheepish tone of voice.
"Hell, can't leave you alone without you putting your foot in your mouth and putting me in hot water. Do you WANT our covers blown?" Heero's tone was like that of a parent to a child.
"Of course not, Heero. I didn't realize she was that obsessed with you."
"I was handling Relena fine on my own. I don't know how I'm going to straighten this out," Heero said.
Meanwhile, Relena was across the room talking to a group of boys. She spoke with them for a few minutes, then left, a small smirk on her face.
One of the boys came over and asked Heero if it was alright if he danced with Heero's 'fiance'. Heero thought "Duo deserves this" as he had an idea what Relena was up to. "Sure," Heero told him, "She loves to dance but I don't."
The boy led Duo out to the dance floor and danced several dances with him. The boy then excused himself but was replaced by another, who also danced several dances. This kept up for the rest of the night. Duo never left the floor until the dance was over.
Duo's feet were tired, swollen and aching. "You could have put a stop to it, you know, after all I was YOUR date," Duo complained.
Just then, they heard a dull explosion, which sounded like it came from that new factory down the road, the one that no one knew what it was for.
"Stop whining," Heero said. "It's not every day you get to be the Belle of the Ball." Heero smiled.
Let me know what you think.
