Making It Work by Kimmie

//I love that I love you. Oh, let me count the times today that I've watched you, caught you during your sweetest moments, captured a kiss as you did the dishes... It's funny, this thing called love. It can apply to so many things. That's how I can love the feeling of love. I know that his language, Japanese, has more than one word for love. But, I kind of like just having one word for it. Because, then, when you think about love, you get all the nice things that it encompasses, not just an "ai shiteru" or a "suki da" memory, but an "I love you" or an "I love ice cream" or a "Lovely day" memory. Heero thinks I'm crazy, probably. He's reading this upside down as he dries plates. I could be helping, but I'm scared I'll drop the plates. At least, that's what I tell him. Aww... He gets so cute when he grumbles! Heero... I love you.//

Placing the final dried dish on the counter, Heero rolled up his damp towel and flicked it at Duo's knee, smartly catching him just as he capped his pen. "Ah, Heero! What was that for?"

Placing his chin on Duo's knee, Heero smirked. "For being so darn cute while I did the dishes. If it weren't for you, I'd be fifty times as productive. Your laziness rubs off on me."

Duo leaned down and planted a small kiss on Heero's temple, causing him to sigh softly and nuzzle against Duo's leg. "Laziness isn't all *that* bad for you. You certainly get more sleep with me around."

Heero chuckled. "I only get more sleep because I need it. Keeping up with you is a full time job." He nuzzled Duo's leg more, and yawned. "Speaking of which... it's been a long day."

Nodding, Duo let one hand reach up to trail through Heero's hair. "Yup. But, the house needed cleaning. Besides, you look so cute in a little apron and a kerchief; dusting and vacuuming!"

Heero looked up, raising an eyebrow. "Have you been sniffing the oven cleaner again?"

Duo laughed. "Just a bit. That stuff is a bit overpowering, even though it's supposed to be fume free. But, no, you just had to use the last of that oxygen stuff on the fridge. It was only four shades darker than it was supposed to be."

Heero yawned again. "Just listening to you makes me more tired. Let's go to bed, okay?"

His partner nodded, lifting Heero's head up and sliding off the counter to stand next to him. "Sure thing. We've got a big day tomorrow. The basement calls." Smiling, Duo felt Heero's arm snake around his back, clutching him closely.

"I love you. You know that, right?"

Duo nodded. "Yup. Now, go take a quick shower before you get in bed. You've got insulation in your hair. But, I love you anyway."

"Mmm..."

As Heero pulled away and walked toward the bathroom, Duo walked into the bedroom. He threw his journal on the bed and disrobed, throwing the clothes into the hamper like he was playing in a basketball game. Smiling slightly, he slid under the covers, picked up his journal, found his place, and continued writing.

//I just realized that we haven't played basketball in a while. We'll have to see if we come across a basketball in the basement. There's a hoop over the garage door... probably from the last people who lived here.

I still can't believe that we got our own house. It's sort of surreal. Sharing an apartment was one thing. This is a house. But, I think we can make it work. Heero's out of the shower now. Hmm... Yeah. We'll make it work.//
