This is very-very-very amusing, at least for me...I don't know why I wrote this, but I expect to be shot dead anytime.

Characters: hum hum... Zechs, Treize, Relena, Wufei. gulp...

Disclaimer: none of these characters are mine, and I've just received my bank account thingy and I am bordering overdraft, so don't even bother dragging me to court. I wouldn't even have the money to take a public transport to court.

C&Cs please (would do assassination jobs for these)

The Road to Take: Waking Up by JejeFish

Breakfast is a bit late that day, Relena is a bit annoyed and worried. They have been waiting for Zechs to come, they: Treize, and Wufei and she. Then a note came from Zechs telling that he would be having his breakfast in his room. Wufei and Treize seemed a bit worried but Relena assured them that everything would be all right with her brother. It is only that he had a discussion until early hours of morning with the delegation from Sanc.

An hour later Treize and Wufei found themselves in the drawing room with Relena.

"Do you think your brother is acting a bit strange?"

"Yes... I don't know... ever since the coup d'etat... no, after that, ever since he went back to Sanc and visited our old home he has been acting strange."

Wufei joined in the conversation. It still amazes Relena how her brother and his superior could actually come into good terms with a gundam pilot. She heard him say, "Isn't it a good thing to check on him?"

Relena nodded and Treize stood up. "Relena..."

The girl looked up at the imposing figure she knew her brother much adored. "Yes, what can I do for you?"

"Tell those pricks to not go near Miliard for a few days, or maybe a few months." he paused as if to ponder, "maybe for the whole of his life. His life is miserable enough."

With that the OZ general exited, followed by the Chinese pilot, heading to Zech's wing of the large mansion. Relena sighed and turned to the intercom. "Andrew, come." She summoned her secretary.

A man in his early thirties came in and gave her a salute, "Yes?"

"Tell those delegations from Sanc that they are not to approach my brother anymore. Not until he himself lets them to do so."

Andrew bowed an acknowledgement and left. Almost all of the Peacecraft household, from the lowest servant to the head of the household knew about the depression undergoing their young master.

Treize and Wufei knocked on the great oak door of Zechs' room. "Mili? Its me, Treize... and Wufei."

No answer. Treize knocked again, and tried to open the door. To his surprise the door wasn't locked, contrary to Zechs prudent ways of always keeping his private whenever he could.

Treize led Wufei into the largest suite in the mansion, full of regalia and grandoise. The large chandelier hung majestically from the ceiling and a three inch deep burgundy carpet was spread across the room. The opulent bed was of the softest silver silk and the upholsteries are the softest velvet. The great oak bookshelves gave away Zechs wisdom. The heavy oak table was bare except for a tray of silverware laden with breakfast obviously untouched. Soft sunshine poured over from the great french doors carved out of gilded door with the most beautiful curtain adorning it. It illuminates the room, making light dancing around it, sending shadow dances around, once in a while reflecting silver and gold as it hits the ornaments.

They found Zechs sitting on one of the chairs Treize remembered as the chair once owned by the late King Peacecraft of Sanc. Zechs is not sitting, actually, but rather curling in a painfully tight ball, holding something in his hands, wrapped around him. A closer look revealed it as a silver picture frame. His fine platinum tresses fell carelessly and caressed the burgundy carpet. His clear eyes were closed in tight reverance.

Wufei shot an inquiring glance over to Treize which seemed to ask the properness of shaking the young prince from his state of oblivion. The room sat still for painful minutes, with soft breath gracing it once and again. It is so soft both men feared it will stop almost abruptly. The room's stillness is suffocating, a mere reminder of mortal presence.

Treize decided he had enough of the silence. He went up silently to the crouching figure, his footsteps muffled by the thick carpet. Wufei stood silently deciding that it is best to leave the life-long friends to sort things between themselves.

Zechs looked up to the figure that loomed above him and blocked the light. "Treize? What are you doing here?"

"Just checking... you missed breakfast, you put up that disgusting face of yours everywhere you went, and everyone starts wondering whether the world is going to end soon."

Zechs just shook his head and sighed. "I don't know Treize, it is just so... I don't know, I don't know..." Each words went up in staccato. It reached a deafening hysterical exclaim as Zechs ended up in a tighter ball and starts trembling. "It seems that everything had just gone wrong, thats all." The words seemed easy but his uncontrollable voice betrayed his cool.

Treize pulled the seemingly wrecked man up to him and comforted him, "It's this Peacecraft business isn't it? I have thought so that way..."

There is silence. Treize looked up and saw Wufei patiently waiting. He signalled for the Chinese boy to leave them alone, for a while. Wufei nodded and closed the door silently behind him.

"Look, Miliard... do what your heart tells you to do... don't destroy yourself like this. Your decision is yours to make, no one can corrupt your heart... do what you think is best to do, do what your heart tells you to do."

Zechs lifted his face, full of anguish and confusion, the clear eyes glittered with unshed tears. Not that he suppressed them, but they would not just flow out. At that point of time Zechs realised the need to cry out his feelings, to tell the whole world about how things could go so wrong, how he messed things up for himself and others. How incapable of him to take the right decisions, let alone make a decision.

"But Treize... I don't know where my heart is." The words are painfully choked. "If I don't know where it is, how can I know what is best for me to do?" Innocence. Treize never thought there is still this confused innocent child in the deepest soul of the Lightning Baron.

Heartless. He knew this confusion. And it is painful... For a while he know not what to say, both of them seemed to lost their ability to converse, the heavy air descended upon them once again.

At last, Treize just cuddled the younger man... the only thing he could do. No words, nor gestures could ease the pain. No words, nor gestures from anyone else but Miliard himself, Treize decided. He could only lend a shoulder to cry on, a friend to rely on, but in the end it still have to be Zechs who decided.

And the clouds shroud the sun...
