Milliard watched Treize moved even further from his life. His lover became more obsessed on petty things, like a dog's chew toy and naming pets Alexander. Suddenly their relationship just went downhill. Something he had not seen coming before. Not this way.
He wanted to talk it out, this heaviness in his heart. But he couldn't. Noin had asked him million of times, why he had been so down and upset, but he couldn't really say. What should he say anyway? His lover's a bit obsessed with a dog chew toy? He's jealous over an inanimate object?
So now, him, whispering his desperation to the fleeting spring wind, to the million blades of grass, and the whisper of the melting brooks.
Sometimes he would smile when he remembered how happy Treize was, how childhood seemed to smile upon them, but, sadness came, as it was not him that brought all happiness, it was not him that brought all the sunlight.
And there's only pain.
He lifted himself up and headed into the bath instead. Needing his morning shower, which started to get even longer and the water even colder. Would his heart be cold as ice one day? He wouldn't know. Not yet.
**
He stripped himself off his morning clothes and walked towards the shower. Then his eyes suddenly caught the glimpse of the rubber duckie that Treize once treasured. He smiled as he reached out to take the slightly dusty duck. Shifting it between his two hands he remembered such memories that once graced the life around this yellow duck.
He walked over to the tub instead and filled it with water, not too full, but enough for the duck to flow around and shed its filth, of long abandon. Then he heard the easy laughter and banter between Treize and his pet canine, he chuckled bitterly. "Guess we're no longer needed here." And he swirled tiny circles over the water with his calloused hands, making the duck bobbed up and down, and around.
Then, a soak in the semi-cold water, then trying to chase away his reverie, then trying to reason it out. Then he heard Treize called.
He sighed.
**
He lay there, at night, with Treize, curled beside him, sleeping soundly, with the scuzzy baby in his embrace, but he couldn't. He took a fleeting gaze on his companion and rolled over to his side, staring to no particular direction. When something seemed to call him.
He walked blindly towards the bath, as if there's someone pulling him, as if there's a sort of invisible string that carried him there. Then he saw, the rubber duck, by the low bay window, as if staring into his direction. He picked it up, ready to put it back on the shelf, when a sweep of cold air reigned around him,
"I could help you get what you want."
He nearly dropped the yellow duck, its blue eyes turned malicious.
**
"What are you?" He asked when he barely composed himself. He set the rubber duck on the bathtub ledge.
No answer.
"What are you?" Zechs grew impatient.
"A spirit..."
Zechs facefaulted. "A rubber duckie spirit?"
"Of course not. I am, contrary of what you see is quite an elite spirit."
"Why a rubber duck?" Zechs couldn't understand, as he seated himself beside the tub.
Zechs could swear he could hear a chuckle. But then, the yellow rubber in front of him was still. "Let's just say, it's not the vessel that matters. What matters is my taste. I like beautiful things."
"A rubber duckie, beautiful. I swear, Spirit, you had quite a taste."
"No... Not the rubber duck, but the person around it."
Zechs frowned, "You mean you had a crush on Treize, or something."
Silence.
"You like the way he touched you, talk to you? The way he looked in the bath?"
"No." a short reply.
"Then what? I swear, you'd drive me crazy with your windy answers." Zechs groaned inwardly.
Then, suddenly he could feel cold ghostly hands swept his hair aside ever so slightly, and the contact of soft skin against his exposed neck. "Not him... you."
For the longest minute in his life, Zechs could only freeze. Then, "Shimatta!" He turned around, but only to find the tingling sensation left him.
"My fiery one." He could hear a mock tone.
"Show yourself," he said, under clenched teeth.
Again, he could feel it, hands closing around his neck, gently, and pulling him forward, the cold stung his skin, sending unadulterated sensation up his spine. Then he could make, in such a close distance, the dark brow, and the glassy eyes, the sensuality.
Then the Spirit detached himself from Zechs.
"Happy now?"
Zechs couldn't do anything but nod.
"Good," the Spirit folded his arms, examining Zechs. But you're not that happy, aren't you?"
"What made you think so?" Zechs challenged.
"You don't have to hide anything from me. Treize, of course. Feeling a bit abandoned, neglected? Aren't we both?"
Zechs kept his quiet. He didn't even notice that the Spirit had twined their limbs together, and pinned Zechs on the smooth wooden floor. "Denied?"
The blue eyes widened as the Spirit started unbuttoning his nightshirt.
"Anou... ah..."
"The name's Agatka."
"Nani?" bewildered.
"Agatka," the spirit whispered softly against Zechs' ears. "My name. Call my name when you come."
"A... Agatka." Hesitation, and his mind hazed. Not knowing what to do, how to react, but being receptive to the soft touches.
**
Morning came, and Zechs peeled open his eyes. He's on his shared bed, with Treize beside him, cuddling his scuzzy baby protectively.
For one fleeting chance, he thought that everything's but a dream.
Then he rolled over to his side, and saw, the yellow rubber duck sitting on his side of the nightstand, and he could hear the now familiar voice in his head, "Zechs... Milliard..."
"Agatka..." he said inwardly, taking the yellow rubber duck in his arms, and headed towards the bath, hopping over the curled dog, sleeping in the middle of the room.
The feeling of last night still close to memory, and as much he would not want to admit, he had never felt that way before.
He slid himself inside the tub, the first warm bath after so many nights, and he could feel the other joining him, "Zechs, how are you today?" the voice sultry and sweet, as the pair of ghostly pale hands traveled up his torso.
"Fine, Agatka. Thank you."
The dark eyebrows suddenly lifted, "Fine? Is that it, Zechs?"
Zechs smiled, as he played with the rubber duck, deliberately prolonging the silence, and then lifted his head slightly, grinning,
"Of course not. I want it, again. Forever."
Agatka chuckled silently, and drew Zechs closer. And with a simple incantation, the door to the bath was locked from the inside.
But then, Zechs could feel the need and longing for Treize too, and Agatka knew.
"I'll help you, Zechs," he whispered silently into the other's mind, sending pulses of reassurance. "But for now, I want it to be us too."
Zechs smiled, "I know. I want it too. I think I am obsessed, my little Rubber Duck Spirit."
"Good."
