Part 6

Duo smiled up in to the night sky after he finished making his vow. He was about to settle down in the covers of his makeshift bed when there was a loud crashing sound. Hurrying to his feet, he lit a lamp to see what happened and gasped. The Engineer from Dreamland and...Wufei.

"What are you doing here?!" he nearly screamed at Wufei, not caring if the other inhabitants of his room were now awake.

"Your American has left you, hasn't he? Ha! I knew that justice would be served!" Wufei laughed darkly, "come Duo, we will wed like our parents' decreed!" he reached out for Duo.

"No! Never! I still love Heero, we are bound, I will never deny him, I'm sure he will do the same. I will never marry you!" Duo spat at Wufei. Wufei eyes widened and suddenly he yelled for his armed men to come.

The Commissar's eyes glared at Duo threateningly, "If you will not marry me by choice, I will kill you," he glanced at The Engineer, "and him. I demand that you agree to my wishes!"

Duo looked at the armed men, his fear increasing. 'No,' he thought, 'I can't let Zechs die because this idiot. I must get him out of here.'

"Let him leave first," he said, pointing to Zechs.

Wufei's eyes narrowed and he nodded. The armed men watched carefully as The Engineer left the room.

"I must show you something first," said Duo. He walked over to a small bed in the back of the room and picked up something, holding it in his arms. "This is my son, Trowa. Mine and Heero's child. Even if he was born of someone else, he is ours." The small two-year-old boy stirred slightly, wonderfully oblivious to the events in the room.

"You must kill him," said Wufei sharply, "he get in the way of my plans."

"No! He is my son, I love him, like I do Heero. I will never let anything hurt him!" Duo cried out.

"Then I will, he is my enemy!" Wufei advanced towards Duo, his knife in hand.

"You will not kill him! Don't touch him, he is my only joy in this world! Come closer and I will kill you!" With that, Duo ran to his dresser and took out a gun, Heero's gun. "I will shoot you!"

"You wouldn't dare touch the trigger," replied Wufei.

'I will do this, I will protect my son! Please, give me courage!' he thought, and aimed at his ex-fiancé's evilly smiling face. 'Please!' and he pulled the trigger.

Wufei's armed men, along with Duo's roommates, ran for their lives, leaving Duo horrified at his own action. "That's it then," he whispered softly, "he's gone."

Trowa yawned sleepily and looked at his father, he had been woken up by the gunshot. Duo held him closer and shielded his eyes from Wufei's dead body. "We must go to America, my dear one. To Heero."

Zechs roamed around the streets, making his way through the city. Smiling to himself, to walked to the remains of Dreamland and opens a trap door, finding a box of counterfeit watches. "Ah, there it is, after so long," he mused to himself, "I knew I'd need them someday." Zechs started to leave but then Duo came running.

"What do you want?" Zechs asked somewhat excitedly, "did the Commissar give you my money?"

"No," replied Duo flatly, "I need your help."

'Damn, there goes my ticket to America,' Zechs thought. "What do you need?"

"I need to get to America, my child needs his father and I cannot stay here any longer!"

"Father? Your child has American blood? Maybe if it's not naturally, but still! Then they must let us into America! This child is American, and now so are we. Of course I'll help you!" Zechs was happy, giddy even. "I shall buy our tickets to Bangkok today, after Bangkok, and selling a few of these watches, it's off to America!" Zechs ran off, skipping and filled with glee.

Duo smiled softly to himself and at Trowa. "Don't worry, little one, we shall see your father, no matter what it takes. When we get there, we will buy a house, and you'll have your own room. You will grow to be a strong man and be whatever you want to be. I'd give my life for you."
